in a simple way to save money on food on brip blap
I can't imagine not eating breakfast! In the past year, I would guess that I've skipped breakfast about 5 times (when I was really sick). I don't know how people make it to lunch without breakfast!

I would love getting a high five every morning! Maybe I should start a tradition in my office. My coworkers would think I've lost my marbles!

You're choosing the right time not to be strapped to a desk. I just look outside all day...I have a hard time focusing at work!

in how I managed to spend almost $9000 on lunch this year on brip blap
I love to eat out at lunch! Dinner is fun, but lunch is fantastic! I walk with a few coworkers to different restaurants...we catch up, get away from work, and I get to try different types of food that I probably wouldn't try. Most of my coworkers foreign are very persuasive. Plus, they really enjoy sharing their food likes and dislikes...

This monkey picture totally makes up for your nasty egg picture.
I think monkeys will be kept alive if only for research. I know it's a disturbing picture, but there is a TON of research money being spent on monkey research...

#1 The egg looks like a brain and is gross.
#2 Very good point about the TV! However, I have to admit that it's my guilty pleasure....TV on DVDs....I only let special people into my apartment to participate in this ritual. Usually it involves eating raw cucumbers (yum!).

in Lending Club update on brip blap
I don't think existing lenders can bid on loans either. I tried to yesterday with existing cash reserves and nothing went through. I don't know how they'll be able to fund loans if they won't let lenders bid on them.

in Can I tolerate my son’s religious education? on brip blap
Since I have no children, I can only reflect on my own childhood. My parents tried to raise me with some religion (attending church & Sunday school), but it never really stuck. I was the kid that harassed the pastor about fossil records (yeah, I was a weird one) at age 6 (I really liked dinosaur books). If kids are encouraged to think independently, they will find what they like....my sister really liked religion because she used to pray to god for boys to like her....

Excellent post!
However, I think the key to self-discipline is having a plan....or at least a vague idea of what you want.

I love this post! I'm currently working on my emergency fund, so the go to hell fund is a long way off! However, I will call it my "go to hell fund" as I'm building it at ING (I love their subaccounts).

in fools on brip blap
Excellent post! As the "smart" daughter in my family, I'm constantly picked on for not having any common sense (the microwave baffled me until I was 18) but can answer almost any Jeopardy question (good memory). I would prefer not to list the foolish things that I've done because my list is much longer. However, I think the main point to be made about foolish choices is that you learn from them. Yes, I own quite a few Juicy Couture items. Now, I don't spend money on brands, but on quality clothing. Plus, I still wear my Juicy sweatpants around my apartment!

in poor kid blues on brip blap
I never thought about my childhood in terms of money. If I look back on it, my parents weren't well off when I was younger. I can't remember anything that I really wanted that I didn't get...well, a cat....but I am really allergic to cats. Hm...

Love the picture of Brad Pitt. It brought a smile to my face. Then I was laughing out loud about your new term "ghettoized." While I wouldn't agree that P2P lending sites are "ghettoized," I'm happy that you used the term.
Thanks for the shout out, the eye candy, and the new term.

I just realized that my above comment seems really morbid. However, I did have a few friends die (my age and younger) recently (accidents, cancer, etc); so I want to be prepared.

I have a small life insurance policy ($30,000) to cover funeral expenses or whatever. I'm also putting together a list of my accounts for my parents in case anything happens to me. I don't think I'm ready to prepare the type of funeral I would like though...

in credit card debt is not pandemic on brip blap
I think the main problem in the U.S. today is lifestyle inflation not having a living wage. Does every one need a 32" LCD TV? Nope, but I have friends that make $8/hour that have one. Does every bride to be need at least 1 carot to say yes? Nope, but I know a lot of grooms that finance a diamond so they can purchase a large one.
I believe that the problem with lack of savings/over spending is a life style inflation that has swept the nation. We all feel like we need the latest Dyson vacuum for $400 because it's the best. I think a lot of people feel entitled to these things. People choose things over health care and that's what's dangerous.

in giving gifts in the office on brip blap
Ugh! I hate this too! I didn't mind pitching in for a little something for my boss when he received a huge grant (which is a big deal and pays my salary)...but we were expected to pitch in $20 for a 80gb iPod for a guy....and then $10 for a digital camera for someone else....I try to avoid it, but it's hard. I usually just make cupcakes for birthdays (like I'm 12).

in can wealth be fair? on brip blap
I have mixed feelings about this post. I don't think a fair system can exist. There will always be exceptions to rules and someone finding a loophole.
Meg does have a valid point on the problem with the health care industry. Since this isn't my blog, I will just say that the health care industry will have to undergo a complete renovation in order to decrease prices (not just announcing the prices to the masses).
