in Something Happening In Haiti (from The Onion) on goodCRIMETHINK
I was in Haiti for "Operation Uphold Democracy" and the follow on "United Nations Mission in Haiti" in 95 for the elections then. That video makes me fall out of my chair in laughter and cry in my hands at the truth of the parody. While there, I couldn't imagine saying this, but I miss Port-au-Prince, sad as things were and are.

Al Jazeera English is one of the best sources of unbiased world reporting, btw. Real News is non-profit and US grassroots if the propaganda instilled fears of Al Jazeera are too much to overcome.

in CNN Pundits Also FAIL the Sexism Test on Bang the Drum
hmm... have to disagree. A commentator, I grant, still should be wary of it. However, just as every woman in my immediate family (there are 5 of them) has called themselves a bitch, I have and will use the term myself from time to time.
In today's lexicon, bitch is simply the female equivalent of bastard; neither have retained much of their original meaning and little of the stigma of the curse word they were.

in Buffett and Byrd for Obama on Bang the Drum
Sen Byrd's endorsement, and the words particularly, will mean a lot, not just in W.Va but in rest of the 'Old South' methinks.

"See, this year the voters are all about authenticity. Even the ones who didn’t go to college are thinking. (Note: If you believe any of the guano Johnson is tossing, you’re NOT thinking. Start.)"
Nice.

She has made statements since to the same end. The words have changed, the message has not.
John Hersey's Hiroshima, http://moourl.com/zbk4p
I was made to read that book in high school and have reread it every few years. The thought ever since that makes me shiver is a person being burned into the wall or ground to look like a permanate shadow.
War is hell. Atomic war is *censored* insanity.

Too many to go through, though. And they really need a way to navigate and browse them efficiently.

in Damn America, Indeed on Bang the Drum
The thing that bugs me most about this are the truths behind Wright's statements are, as usual, mostly ignored. Our history of 'indiscretions' as a nation are facts that few wish to examine; much like the taboo on examining racism. Those 'indiscretions' continue today, yet it is 'unpatriotic' to point them out.
