He did a lot for research into spinal damage (I would, too, if I broke my neck) and I hope his wife keeps it up like the Reagans have done for stem cell research. I know how much you like Superman, Mike, what do you think of Nicholas Cage playing him in the next movie? Is that even true?

Also, we had your second favorite actor come through Lincoln this week. Seinfeld did two shows here, but it was totally under my radar and I missed them, doh!

Brian

Re: 1st day on a salary

Holy crap! Passerini, previously at the New College of the University of Alabama (www.as.ua.edu/nc/passerini.html), built the first solar car a long time ago (www.speedace.info/bluebird_1977.htm). A full 2 person vehicle called the Bluebird. (gtalumni.org/Publications/magazine/sum93/breath.html)

This is a good interview with him (www.cw.ua.edu/vnews/display.v?TARGET=printable&... />
He has recently built a larger 2(3ish) person with more storage space and greatly improved range (100+ miles at ~45-50mph easy). Although this model might cost a little more than the $10,000(~12,000) rule he has imposed on himself. he's just retired but before he left i was working on the latest car with him. This just goes to show that directly powered solar cars are viable and cheap. cars weigh so much less without the engine that making small solar isn't this big obstacle everyone thinks it is. of course all the big car companies want people to think they'd have to pay $8million for the piontless ugly thing MIT builds with GM/BP money because it isn't in their interest to build long lasting cheap free-fueled vehicles. so yeah, don't buy the anti-solar car hype.

however, i do agree that we should largely get rid of personal transportation.

Re: Helmets for Cyclists vs. Full Body Armor for Drivers

i don't have one, but recumbent tricycles seem much safer(you can't fall, you can only get hit). and you are more noticeable(which has been my safety concern) you would take up more roadspace though... but not much more.

Re: Instant Survey: Walk A Mile

john muir has been dead longer, therefore ... he wins the deth(sic) game. : P

Re: Abagil: Hummus That’s Organic

seeing as it is a translation from another language that doesn't use our lettering system, as long as it phonetically "works" then it is good enough.

it is like the difference between tao and dao or bu and boo or tsing qing in chinese. they are both right - sortof. just like humus, hummos, huomos, hummus, etc. come to think of it, when i was eating hummus and falafel earlier it was spelled humus in the middle eastern place i was at.

Re: Survey: What Kind of Tree Do You Have?

pastafarians reprezent!

i go out and find an organic, free-range, local, live pirate and use him/her for decoration.

don't forget to put club soda in their water so they don't dry out and get droopy.
