in Theme for 2008: Unclutter on Disruptive Thoughts
When I returned to my apartment after yon hurricane, I had a couple of hours to sift through everything I owned and keep only what was important and undamaged, not that I would recommend that kind of shock, but I have kept a hell of a lot less stuff since then. I like clutter in a manner that drives my mother insane, though, and now that my equally cluttered boyfriend is living with me... we have a coffee table with about twenty books on it, and a hammer, and some candles, and and and.... good to see you posting again.

Good to have you back, yet again. I like the new design. More minimalist.

The thought of either of you in a cowboy hat and heels is pretty funny.

Perhaps a lot of those early riser people rise early, now, but a good bit of the process of getting rich is really late nights working on getting a project out the door. Mornings are overrated. :)

>Question - is it healthy to dig into old chat logs? No... particularly not the ones of people you've dated. I also have been on a "music I haven't listened to in ages" kick. My fileserver died a month or so ago and I got around to restoring everything to a little mini network drive, so now I'm like "oh cool, I forgot about this, and this, and that."

That's a cool approach to ads. I trust you'll make them distinct and good looking, as this place tends to be. Merry Christmas, as well.

in Where I’ve Been on Disruptive Thoughts
What I tend to miss most is the comment interaction. I have a whole pile of subscribers to my feed on livejournal, and it creates this comment disconnect, because people comment to the feed entry too. A year or so ago (I think, don't quote me) I added a 'comments (#)' to the bottom of the posts in the feed, which has helped, but that's not in anyone's default templates for rss feeds at the moment that I know of.

Wow, someone else who doesn't like feedreading in the browser. What I actually want is something that checks the feeds to see if anything's changed since I've been there. Problem is firefox's history format is disgusting.

Good to see you back. Gmail on my phone and imap access for my other email on the phone works out for killing time, but I've got wireless almost everywhere I get stuck (and municipal wifi at my apartment, too, for when the cable dies) so it's not really necessary at this point. Feed readers, well... I go try them every year or so and give up again, and I might write one to do what I want instead in a firefox extension at this point.

in Knowing More By Knowing Less (or, How Do You Learn?) on Disruptive Thoughts
Working off of the einstein qutoe, you can take this further, though. Some things that appear very different from each other at first generalize down to the same things but different trimmings. Stuff like programming languages, for example. With a few exceptions (the biggest being LISP) once you have used about five or six programming languages, you realize that they are all basically the same except for syntax, and whether you have to use objects or not. I learned C# in about an hour because I didn't have to learn the language, just remember vaguely java-like syntax and class structures, and Intellisense has all the class libraries at the end of my tab key. Perl I never remember the syntax for because it's all in perldoc and the libraries in CPAN. Then again, you might have to be a good programmer for all of this to work out, but I don't really think so. If you can't learn six languages you probably aren't a good programmer to start with.

Liking Phoenix, thanks. Speaking of french pop music, ever listen to Tahiti 80? They're kinda similar.

re: RJD2, hadn't heard that song, thanks. I have "your face or your kneecaps" if you want it, pulled it bootleg off of usenet years ago. As for the rest, well. I gotta bill a ton of hours today, maybe I'll answer later.

in Introduction: “Music of the Moment” on Disruptive Thoughts
I've toyed with making my 'current music' playable, but it's one of thos posting effort things; uploading music to my server or something else, and all that. The player no longer steals my pointer, too.

(One more good excuse to buy nice clothes, for the confidence part, at least.) Sometimes, though, you want to be approachable, rather than authoritative.

in Fraser on Influence - The Importance of Making (Eye) Contact on Disruptive Thoughts
It's not just eye contact, it's having good posture and a confident stance, too. Walking into a room like you own it. In a lot of ways I'm really good at the "can I have that." I don't even need to ask for things much of the time.

I still don't even -have- a blogroll. Or any blog bling actually displayed. Part of it is not having the time, part of it is hating the clutter on other people's blogs. Your layout looks good at the moment, I would try and keep it clean if I were you. Be careful of overly-sticky music players.
