Wow, that place looks so lush and beautiful! The stone is perfect looking. I bet if you can get around the weather, it's rad! Love all the moss growing on the boulders, it's probably like a first ascent everytime you clean it off :)

WasatchGirl Lil' Chicka,
I really, really liked it there.. but man the weather is completely unpredictable. My friend Steve is a master of techniques when it comes to weather prediction and knowing how to dodge the storms. I must admit that I climbed lots more than I would have otherwise thought considering the rain because of Steve's skills.

They do talk about if the rock was "green". I had no idea what people were talking about at first... but then I quickly learned that the rock really does moss a bit just after a simple storm. It is wild. I saw these one people climbing on this wall that was COMPLETELY mossy... no big deal.. just cruising their way up. Ha!

Thanks for the comment, girl.

in Volunteer Work (Week of June 1): Grand Tetons Climber’s Ranch on CragBaby
I stayed at the Climber's Ranch once about 7 or 8 years ago. It was a very fun, very memorable experience. I met people from all over the world, and it was so comfortable. I was so impressed with the cabin, the dish pit outside, the library (ESPECIALLY the library!), the little climbing wall, etc. I highly recommend this to any traveling climber, and offering to lend a hand probably adds another amazing element!

WasatchGirl Lil' Chicka,
You are my 4th friend to mention staying at The Climber's Ranch. It is so cool to personally know people who have already utilized this great place. =)
Thanks for posting up the comment. =)

Fabulous trip report and photos! I really love bishop and your post reminds me of the many reasons why.

Nice job on all of your hard sends, and that ankle pic is gnar-gnar...ouch. Hope you are loving Font!

Thanks for stopping by and the congrats on the sends. I really love Bishop... what a fabulous place! I think it might be my favorite bouldering destination in the US, though a bit ankle unfriendly.
Hope you are well!

Fantastic pics! How do you deal with dogs there? I guess you were staying at a house, huh? Otherwise, you can't bring them there, right?

Nice shots, crankin' lady!

WasatchGirl Hey girl,
Thanks. Yeah, it was such a great time to climb there. Can't wait until I can go back.
The Rock Ranch allows dogs and everyone just let's their pooches run around. I was just worried with CB and so didn't stay there.
Hope you are cranking at home. But... I know you are... =)

in Climbing, Issues and Leaders. Or Perhaps Just A Rant. on CragBaby
Personally, while I think that your post raises some good points, I think that many climbing companies are looking for people who are out there not only perhaps pushing 'numbers' but also those who are friendly, approachable, PSYCHED, and are in the media (not just limited to 'hot flashes' but those who end up in photos, sometimes even because they climb w/ friends who happen to be outdoor photogs). I think it would be a super boring day when the only sponsored climbers are hard men/women who climb a certain grade. Many people that are 'sponsored' are doing more than just shlogging shoes, ropes, cams, etc, they are volunteering at events like HERA, or teaching classes to beginners or children, or are not afraid to walk up to people and introduce themselves and strike up a conversation. Some people may enjoy doing comps or shoe demos, which help get their company's name/image out there, and maybe others are known more locally in their climbing community. There are many parameters of sponsorship, not just pure ability. Many times it's the people who just aren't afraid to ask, as in, 'hey, I'm living on the road for a while, would you be willing to send me some gear and I can test/review/wear it, etc.' Also, nowadays it seems, most climbers, sponsored or not, are blogging, etc. I know this is definitely encouraged as social networking is pretty much making the world go round.

Alot of hardmen and women aren't sponsored because they just don't really care. Again, sometimes it's the squeaky wheel so to speak. The system ain't perfect, but hey, it's just climbing! I think to quote that one famous quote, the best climber in the room is the one having the most fun!

I love that series too. I like the other one too, where they go into the booth, shoot, I can't remember what it's called, but I always seem to cry like a baby! Is it Story Corp? Well, whatever, how's Hueco? Do you love it? Tell Mike P. hi for me too!

I just got back from NY, been workin, workin, workin. Today is my day off, but my stupid car is back in the shop, and I'm lazy and don't feel like doing anything.

I need a roadtrip!!!!

We're back down in Kanab this weekend, can't wait to play with dogs!

WasatchGirl Lil' Chicka,
Huh... I don't know the Booth one. I will have to investigate.

Hueco is amazing, but it is surprising how I have been here 2 weeks yet have seen so little of the park. There is just SO MUCH rock here! And I am staying in the House of Doom, so can easily tell Mike P. hello for you. =)

Excited to see your blog posts about Kanab.
Hope you are well.

I love LRC! It's the best, isn't it? I remember our stay there, though brief, was so much fun, and soooo cold. We met a really nice guy who invited us to his parents house, gave us a hot shower, filled us up with food and organic groceries and beer for the road...Southern hospitality cannot be beat!

Holy crap, I feel like a loser...

Just kidding, Rach, you are such an inspriation...exactly what is a Public Equity Valuation? Should I be working on this?

I have no doubt you will dispatch everything on this list with ease. I gotta go work on my list now!
WasatchGirl's picture
WasatchGirl Ha ha... thanks, lil' chicka. Don't stress about your list! It is probably the perfect combo for you. I am just a HUGE goal setter as I love goals, bullet points and numbers. And to answer your question on public equity valuations, NO, you should not be working on this. Only geeky financial folks (like myself) need to worry about them.
Thanks for stopping by and posting your encouragement.
Rock on, girl!

I think someone also told me something about a "FEED" or "FOOD" bag that they do, where they donate food to a child's family as well...did you see that Rach, or am I thinking of another company? Anyways, awesome idea, I think it's an awesome, socially responsible company.
WasatchGirl's picture
WasatchGirl Lil' Chicka,
They do make the Feed bag! It is a real cool concept where "Each FEED bag sold will provide a school year of meals for one child in need and give them the hope of an education and a regular meal." The bags can be purchased here: http://tomsshoes.com/ProductDetails.aspx?Catego...
Thanks for reminding me of the bags!
Hope you are well.

Nice Rocktown pics, I so love the climbing there, glad your enjoying it. I only wish there was some kind of pit toilet (it was kind of ewwwww-y there, lots of people with not the best waste disposal plans, and a better road would be cool. Isn't the bouldering there so fun??? Have you found the air hockey table at the rec center? Best time waster ever!
WasatchGirl's picture
WasatchGirl Yeah, the climbing is great. It took me awhile to figure out the names to everything and where it really was located as the Dr.Topo guide is horrible.

A pit toilet.. um, yeah! That is definitely needed! Probably one at RockTown itself and one at the campground.

I did find the place with the air hockey. I saw some boys playing but didn't play myself. My rest days are always spent working. Sometimes I wish they could be spent just bumming around... but the income is nice.
Thanks for the comment girl! Hope you are well.

WasatchGirl Ha ha.. .no worries, girl. Twitter does take it to a whole new level of web2.0 geekiness. When TheClimberGirl posted the list, I was just shocked by how many climbers where on the service. I noticed most of us on there still have a tech side though with jobs ranging from programmers, open source gurus, entrepreneurs, etc.

Thanks for stopping by the blog. Hope you are well, girl!
