I think some people actually expect others to do that if they get caught up and can't make it back.

Me, I never wanted anyone handling my clothes so I just sit in the 'mat and read a book.

Re: Disbelief loses to dat belief

Some of the people I respect the most are athiests. While I personally feel this is unfortunate for them, I have no problems with them holding their beliefs and understand how they arrived at them.

I DO have a problem with athiests who attempt to abridge my freedom of religion. Like Jones they're a boutique bottler who uses real cane sugar. Like Jones you can get them at Publix.

I will say that I think my body reacts differently to the cane sugar than to the corn syrup of large bottlers. I can be satisfied with one 12-oz Boylan's and not have my cravings ratchet up the way they would with Coke or Pepsi products.

Okay, so it probably IS a rationalisation. Nevertheless, I do love my Boylan's.

Never have tried Jones, although their holiday flavours (like "gravy") do make me curious.

Re: Annoyance

I understand the father's feelings, but I also get annoyed with the brazen selfishness of others. You sound like you have a frustrated and disappointed attitude.

You have something you care about very much, and you tried to not only express that caring but respect the time of others.

It hurts to be disrespected and disregarded and I imagine the scenario you describe left you feeling a bit of both. Other speakers sucked the energy out of the room and disregarded the rules.

As far as your effectiveness as a speaker, you never really can tell what others will take away. Although had I been in the audience, I'm sure I would have taken more away from your speech simply because by respecting the time of your audience you acknowledged them and their importance, thus made an impact.

And now I'm just babbling so I'll stop.

Re: Do I have a chance?

It's probably wrong to do something superstitious when speaking of a sermon, but I have my fingers crossed for you.

Re: ‘Doesn’t anybody ever stay together anymore?’

Well, were not football stars and we don't have kids. The problem was that around 1992 or 1993 (?damn, I'm getting old) they changed ownership. The new franchisers would never clean the stores, never restock the merchandise and basically ran a shoddy operation. Eventually all the local stores shut down. Then another family took over the Murfreesboro Rd. location and did a good job. But they had such a hard time building the business back up because people still had the negative associaton that they eventually closed that store as well. That was maybe 2 years ago.

I think enough time has passed in the collective Nashville memory to enable people to enjoy DD again without the crap association from the old owners.

I'm sure once the Franklin store makes a good showing he'll go back to the college neighborhood at least.

Re: good sermon's draw a crowd.

I think the preaching is vital to the growth of the church's members, but Brian said it best. I am a Christian. But I happen to believe that the best way to teach people about the "right" way is to let them see your life.

Do I think being a porn star is the best way to live? No. If I did, then clearly I would, myself, be getting mad bucks for the Reverse Cowgirl.

Do I think involving one's children in one's highly sexed life style is the best of ideas? No. I don't.

Do I think all reality shows featuring children are an abhorrent exercise in grabbing for the cash? You bet I do.

That's why I won't watch any of these shows.

But I'm still remembering what it was like to go hungry, to have parents always worried about money, to have to decide between clean underwear and heat and light. So I make it my business to not take away other people's business UNLESS they are deceiving people. (i.e. our local homeless guy lying about his financial circumstances to compel reader donations; the Gosselins lying about their financial circumstances to compel donations.)

To me, when you interfere with a parent's livelihood you are quite possibly taking food and shelter from their children and therefore corrupting any possible position of advocacy you may have had.

That's why I don't go in for boycotts.

Because I personally believe, as a libertarian, that coercion through force, even if it is the force majeur of financial manipulation, is wrong.

Re: Kraft Pulls Ads from Porn Star's Show

I don't read often; not because of any dislike of you personally but because I don't have kids and therefore have little to add to the majority of discussions here.

The reason I'm being vocal about this particular issue is because I see it as bullying; the same way I see the SBC boycott of Disney for hiring gays or the right-wing boycott of Wal-Mart for thinking about selling the Plan B pill.

I appreciate the disucssion because it is helping me articulate what was at first a gut reaction to your first tweet on the issue.

And again, I don't care about your banner or your posts or your columns insofar as finding them offensive. I'm just pointing out to those here that to others what they deem suitable may be viewed as offensive.
