in Black Simpsons T-Shirt - Design Competitions Continue To Proliferate on Tcritic - The daily design and fashion T-Shirt blog
Hi Karl,,

There was a massive discussion taking place on one of the other large competition tshirts sites, as to whether the Simpsons tshirt was a rip or a parody, and the conclusion on their site was that it was a parody.

We had a huge team discussion about it, and came up with the same conclusion which is why we allowed it in the springleap competition.

We have pulled many designs in the past because they were copy's or the topic was unsuitable.

Cheers
Eric

spork Any talk about how unbelievably racist it is with it's huge red, Sambo-like lips, Marge preggers with a fourth child, the torn and busted couch, and the wire toy, indicating poverty?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Hi,

Thanks for the mention of springleap - we love it to!!! :)

Tell me, you say you'll have a lot of questions next time you consider exhibiting - what questions will you ask?
babazeka You're welcome Eric.

Off the top of my head...

I would ask for a list of exhibitors and the items they'd be exhibiting.
I'd ask why they felt Babazeka should attend.
I'd ask exactly what I'd be getting for the amount that I paid.
I'd ask which media would be attending, and what SSAFW is going to do about
putting me in touch with them.
I'd ask to proof my sign before exhibiting!!

Thanks for commenting on my blog posting I did about you making my day by proving to me how small the world is! (I know it, but it's good to get a reminder every few days!)

Within 20 minutes of reading your blog, we had connected in facebook and had moved past the icebreaker.

Now once we agree on whether all friends should be accepted or only after a non facebook related icebreaker (an IM message, an email), we can move onto sorting out world peace.

Both viewpoints have merit, but i still buy into my way of facebook "virtual contacts" accepting which is i think i should have an idea of why i have accepted someone as my facebook contact (they actually tell me a piece of information which proves they're REAL "company they work for, industry they're in, sport they're interested in" - SOMETHING).

[Yours is that as someone reads your blog they're connected to you through that, but that seems to be a 1 way connection rather than a 2 way connection, as they know you, but you don't know anything about them.]

Now about that 22 hour flight to actually have a face to face conversation...

Nic - *sigh* - i'm not saying, don't do it!!!

of course do it - there's money to be made in dem hills!

you'd be crazy not to...

BUT if SA is to become a super internet connected mega ....you get the point...

we need a couple stars to shine who want to create global success story's being based in SA

there's room for everyone.

unfortunately at the moment i'm only seeing the local sites / copy of international sites and not the super stars...

the majority of south african's won't innovate (or will innovate, but it won't be earth shattering) - but that's kewl as well - and hopefully they'll make mountains of cash, and have fun along the way...

Choice - 9 to 5 job or create a copy or local only site and make a ton of cash? no brainer!!!!

but to get us into silicon valley mode we need super stars.

BUT Nic - now a question for you.................
Did I say it was going to be Me who did it?

Nic - for the 169797th time...

the BIG money will only flow when the returns show MASSIVE POTENTIAL.

so if we start having global ideas, SA (and hopefully Cape Town as i'm a bit biased towards this beautiful city) will become the new Silicon Valley / Herzlia.

however, there is still plenty space for new local ideas, and competition for existing ideas, hopefully with some of them bringing something fresh to the party (imagine SA reunited or one of the other 3 or 4 that were floating along, had the vision to become the next facebook)

so create new local only sites, create more competition amongst existing concepts...

and hopefully make lots of money...

and then launch innovative global ideas which attract the big money and which propel SA into a new era.

for the record, i'm doing all of them - launching a few SA only concepts which probably won't go global, providing more competition for sites that might not go global but i believe will make money, AND am involved in a number of projects that have the POTENTIAL OF BEING GLOBAL AND MASSIVE!

but if we want an Internet EXPLOSION in our country, we have to be thinking BIG - ...at least some of the time...
