Those judges probably get some kind of "power" fix----my daughter used to show horses and there was a lot of that kind of "judging" in her competitions. On another note, I can't believe you own a PUG and you're Irish! I've been less of a hard-ass about managing employees and it usually resulted with me, the boss, working later than the entry level employees. I don't manage anyone right now but I turned into a total hard ass after I had people that worked for me work FAR LESS harder than they should have for the money I paid them.

Re: 2009/01/16/mom-blogger-misconceptions/

Rock on Jessica! You get lots of choices and you get dessert. Ning is the place you go when you want to have a really excellent meal with lots of courses in a smaller place where you can talk to people more in depth. There's room for both. I like both. It doesn't have to be one or the other. That's the beauty of it.

I was all fired-up about Grasshoppers over at Facebook. When I saw that it was being moved, I had an instant of "o shit" but quickly got over it once I saw how totally easy it was to set up and go over at Ning. After 30 seconds at Ning, I knew Chris was so right to do the move.

I have the attention span of a flea and Ning was TOTALLY painless. Less than one minute of set up, it's just that easy.

Re: Blog Day is August 31st

I accept your tag Chris! The problem is that on your WORST DAY, you have more talent, brains and heart IN YOUR LITTLE TOE---than most of your critics will have in their entire lives.
For God's sake, how many big shot media gurus would promote a book with White Trash Mom in the title? Okay, you and Guy Kawasaki.
Note to the asshats who are giving Brogan"the business" about K-Mart: Chris Brogan is one of the good guys. Instead of spending time tearing him down, why don't you worry about your blog, your work. If it doesn't, quit doing it.
He especially loved to say this when the media planners would come in with stacks of stats and research telling the board why the marketing was a great idea...even though it didn't create results long term.
One of the reasons I love your blog is because it's based on using COMMON SENSE. I think marketing, social media needs to be looked at from a practical point of view and things usually work out. Maybe that's boring but I've found it's true.

Re: How to Start Speaking at Events

It is seriously scary how I many times I have a question about a topic, such as "How to Start Speaking at Events", and then you write a post about the topic. It's the all time primo-groovy word that we always called when we (my ad agency peeps and myself) ALWAYS used when we played corporate word bingo in the 90s. Synergy is (and was) the ultimate kiss-ass know it all ad hipster's word that screams I KNOW NOTHING! The people that are saying they know it all....they are collectively....one big mess of SYNERGY. There is a point there.
