Бывает еще интереснее. Мне несколько дней назад позвонил в Канаду товарищ из индии и предложил работать на них удаленно (консалтинг)... Я очень удивился. И это при том, что они сами занимаются аутсорсингом.

А если серьезно, то 100% какой-то баг в ИЕ используют, т.к.:

А потом просто положить ему .мо файл.

Что же насчет пути, то я имел ввиду, что вордпресс стоит в корне сайта... если нет, то считать он корня вордпресса.

Afaik, openvpn does not provide ethernet encapsulation for its tunnels. If if is true, you can't use openvpn for such configurations.

I've tried to use it and have compared it with nginx. Its performance is very poor comparing to nginx. Nginx uses very efficient connection handling algorithms and that is why it is more preferable for high loads.

As the most simple solution, you can use Portable Firefox to be able to run your firefox from different locations. But afaik there is some software to save your firefox settings and plugins to single .xpi file to export them to any machine. I will try to find this software and will describe it in one of my future posts.

Kpumuk: I've decided to reply to you here. There is very useful firefox extension to silently install firefox extensions to your home machine. Its name is Mass Installer.

Another extension that can be useful in your situation is MR Tech's Local Install.

The primary goal of this extension is to provide the tools needed to install and manage extensions and themes locally. But, there aren't many good reasons to mess with queue depth.

Насчет апача... Скажу честно - меня, как админа, видавшего апач много раз и в разных позах, сама мысль о том, что он как-то себя покажет в области проксирования сильно смущает... я попробовал поставить 2.2, но он тупо завалился при компиляции с синтакс еррором в области mod_load_balancer или как его там... дальше я не пробовал - НЕ ВЕРЮ! (с) и все тут...

Если общественность настоит - могу попробовать еще раз - для большей полноты картины :-)

Я думаю, что только проксируя из них на отдельные fastcgi-сервера с разными конфигами.... насколько мне известно, php не умеет принимать такие параметры из fastcgi.

2Bart: I have no concrete results, but as you maybe know, Apache forks additional processes for every new client... so comparing to FSM-based nginx and lighttpd this approach is not so memory efficient. This is known flaw of apache and that is why many sites using nginx/lighttpd+php even if it can't give them any performance gain.

Даже не знаю, что ответить. Когда хотел потестить его mod_proxy_balancer, тот тупо не скомпилился на gcc 4.1... И я решил, что не буду тестить то, что никогда бы не поставил в продакшн по причине сырости (а она очевидна).

Графиков нету. Единственными графиками для меня являются данные MRTG, который показывал умирающую тачку при определенной нагрузке, а теперь даже при нагрузке на 50% больше ему значительно легче :-)

Задача поста была не в том, чтобы получить точные оценки, а в том, чтобы показать, как можно получить прирост в производительности просто используя все возможности своего железа.

Actually, no. Nginx has only non-caching reverse proxying mode. But if your backend is some dynamic application on php/perl/java/etc, you can use memcached module to cache your answers and then nginx can get pages from cache.

Дело может юыть в том, что он пытается брать IP юзера из какого-то хитрого места... я вижу 2 варианта:
1) Попатчить его
2) Найти, как он это делает и попытаться передать ему этот IP нужным образом.

Что вы имеете ввиду под "потеря сессий"? Если то, что пхп-шные сессии перестали работать, так это логично - они ведь в файлах во дефолту хранятся. Решений я знаю как минимум 2:

1) хранение сессий на nfs-share
2) хранение сессий в базе данных

2Ian: AFAIU, you can setup non-encrypted connection between nginx and apache. As for pound, afair, it is simple tcp balancer, so it may require ssl on apache because it would simple proxy users connection on ISO Model Level 3.

2Сергей: Вот, сколько людей, столько и мнений :-) Одним - нужно, другим - нет. Но идея имеет право на жизнь.

Очень показательной была ситуация несколько дней назад: моя жена играет в WoW... И несколько дней назад начался ожидавшийся давно переход на новую версию клиента - начали тянуться патчи... Вот только близзард не может уже год довести до ума простой торрент-клиент для раздачи патчей и потому скорость скачивания была никакой (2кб в секунду на 5Мбит канале)... Это все к чему? А вот - патч можно было скачать по http с 3rd-party серверов... Но гугл об этом не знал до вчерашнего дня. В то время, когда я через BR накопал это на форумах черт знает когда (уже и забыл)... вот такие дела...

Потому я считаю, что у всех продуктов есть право на жизнь если они полезны.

Агащазблин! Вот вы меня простите, но мне треды удобнее как минимум потому, что никакого IPC городить не надо. Тупо взял переменную, сделал семафор рядышком, чтобы синхронизироваться и все довольны :-)

Вот такие вот дела. А так и в перле я мог бы форкнуться и сделать IPC какое-нить (такое даже есть, но в другой части этого же проекта)... но не хочется городить огород, когда реально хватает тредов и примитивных средств синхронизации :-)

2alex: да. именно. он должен читать метаинфо в самом начале и потом при переходах по видео (перематывании) делать ?start=XXX на позицию, указанную в метаинфо рядом с номером ближайшего кейфрейма.

2dclau: It performs really well because it has set of worker processes each of them implements connections multiplexing with asynchronous sockets and FSM. You really should try it.

2Mons: Согласитесь, что "хорошо" и "чтобы работало" - это разные вещи. Я хотел от перла именно "чтобы работало" - у меня не сильно критичное к роизводительности и т.п. вещам приложение... но оно работает месяцами без перезапуска и меморилики в базовых операциях с тредами (семафорами) просто недопустимы.

А насчет винды и форка - так его нет и все тут... вот если бы он был, но работал криво - это было бы корректное сравнение... хотя все равно - не стоит в ней работать :-P

2rubyrobot: Your configuration would not help to handle higher loads... Idea of nginx-before-apache scheme is in following: nginx would handle lots of traffix and apache would not even know about this traffic.

Hmmm... I've got major update - looks like there is no problem when web server is not on port 80. Just tested it with the same config but on port 8080 - everything works fine on full speeds without any problems (at lest on my 100-files-download test). Really strange :-(

Вот оно - решение :-) Падает он незаметно именно после 1000 запросов в данном случае. Потому надо перезапускать или найти как отключить (может быть при 0 оно не будет его гасить).

2Gerry: MMM is just monitoring/management software - it does not implements any load balancing - just high-availability.

As for using together - it is possible. For example, if your software could not use many reader connections or you want to balance your read load, you can join all reader IPs together and ask mysql-proxy to load-balance them.

It monitors all mysql servers in cluster and checks replication state, replication delay, mysql and IP connectivity. When something happens with one of cluster nodes, MMM tries to keep cluster alive.

AFAIU, they simply did not hear about nginx back then and started using what everyone else in Rails community was using - ferret. Later many people I know migrated away from ferret, but when our client was creating his service, ferret was one of the most popular SE solutions which have Ruby client libraries and/or Rails plugins.

2cencio: Actually to start testing this platform I wanted to make sure at least a few large rails users would report that it works :-) Now I have enough information (EngineYard and few other large rails users have 64bit stuff and it obviously works well) and we're going to deploy our next app server on 64bit Ubuntu.

@Макс: да, используем его дня разнообразных backend APIs - аналитика считается, например, дерганьем сервера аналитики по http и передачей ему нужных параметров. А он там потом (после ответа) делает нужные селекты, инсерты и тп, обновляя summary tables. И куча разных других штук. Еще делал на прошлой работе хитрый домейнерский генератор сайтов, который работал именно на монгреле (там надо было ооочень много запросов в секунду на одной машине).

А чего у вас не вышло? Что именно не получалось?

@Макс: единственное, что я его с AR использую - датамаппер как-то не прижился. Хотя есть места где и AR нету - просто запросы напрямую к базе.

Ну вот они так подумали и сделали. А потом еще провели мегаакции против курения и теперь сигарет нету... точнее они есть, но нашли мы их через 2 недели только... и то - случайно.

А еще - здесь РАБОТАЮТ ргнаничения по возрасту для курильщиков и потребляющих алкоголь. А еще - низзя пить на улице...

Короче - не все, но некоторые решения я бы на месте наших рулевых перенял... но им намного интереснее делить портфели по пол-года...

No. I can get OHIP coverage as foreign worker which is in the country for 3 months or more. But I took some formal letter from my boss to get OHIP for my wife because she is eligible only if I would be contracted for 3 years or more.
