in An Open Letter To Facebook about my username theft. on The Tubbynerd
I suffered the same wrath as Ed and quite a few others. I wrote about it on my blog here... http://www.jasonmoffatt.com/internet-marketing/...

I too will give Facebook a week or so to get this figured out. What they have done is basically aiding and abetting spammers. It's quite obvious that the guy who has my profile has no business having it.

For anyone thinking this isn't a big deal and suggesting we just move on, I think you are missing the point entirely. It's shouldn't be about first come first serve with a site as large as Facebook. It severely diminishes their legitimacy and ability to truly serve people in the proper fashion. The last thing Facebook users want to deal with is more spam. Unfortunately, Facebook has opened their own can of worms by allowing this.

There surely has to be a remedy to this brainless debacle.

in Facebook Usernames are LIVE; 200,000 Usernames in 3 Minutes on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I'm about to go Tony LaRussa on Facebook if they let this punk Jake Smith grab ahold of my name. This vanity URL thing has turned into a debacle. The amount of spammers running rampant right now is disgusting and Facebook has done very little to protect legitimate names, brands, trademarks, etc... http://www.jasonmoffatt.com/internet-marketing/...

in Twitter-Jacking On Trial: La Russa Sues Twitter on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Obviously LaRussa is over-reacting on the issue. Twitter has been known to squash the squatters very quickly with a reasonable request. Many of my friends have had their names squatted and Twitter was quick to resolve the issue. And they are not of the fame level of a Tony LaRussa.

Also keep in mind the dude is a baseball player/manager and probably has no idea how Twitter really works. And in the heat of the moment he probably just over-reacted. I reckon the law suit will be dropped rather quickly.

Hey Jenn,

Did you know that Tony LaRussa is a vegan as well?

Unfortunately he's a Cardinal though.

Go Cubs!

Jennifer Van Grove Seriously? He's vegan like me, I had no idea. The difference is I would never sue Twitter (yet)...

in Following Up On The Auto-Follow Fiasco on The Michel Fortin Blog
Bravo!

What a well thought out and written rebuttal the to auto-follow fiasco.

I too can't stand the "entitlement" issue that some people feel. It does feel very rude the way people have expectations that I'm going to just instantly allow them into my life.

Call me a Twitter Snob, but in my world you have to either EARN my time, or PAY for it.

And if you think I'm some kind of prick because of that, then I'd rather not do business with you anyways. Heck, I probably wouldn't even want to drink a beer with you if you don't understand the value of time and personal space.

in Just who are spammers trying to kid on Twitter? on TheLetterTwo.com
Sadly they've come up with automated bots that can add 1500 friends in minutes, and when the fake alias gets shut down, they just add another one ten seconds later.

What would be helpful is getting the cooperation of the person who the spammer is directing the traffic to. It's almost always some internet marketing "make money" type product that these folks link to. With a bit of help from that vendor they could pinpoint the spammers.

Of course this would mean the vendor would be losing that traffic and potential commissions from the spammer.

But I have a feeling there are a few good guys left that would rat out the spammers.

Ah the Oregon Trail. Crazy thing... the original Oregon Trail is literally about 50 yards from my Log Cabin on Mt. Hood. I've hiked quite a bit of the trail picking mushrooms. Fun times and beautiful area.

With all the scrilla I've made via my Wordpress blog, I'd probably say... "F*ck it" and tattoo one of those bad boys too!

Heck, I've got dumber tattoos all over me. At least Wordpress has some serious significance in my life.

Unfortunately, the "W" may remind me a bit too much of our ex-prez!

in 2009/02/10/mashable-demo-giveaway/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I’d like to attend the DEMO 09 emerging technology conference because…

I'm a NETWORKING WHORE!

Now that networking may take place as we close down the bar while sipping Long Islands, but hey... that's where the real deals are made anyhow (or overheard when a excited genius spill his guts and ideas over 2 Coronas).

Anyhow, Demo 09 is just about 2 hours from my pad. I was planning on going anyway. However, if Mashable were to grant me a pass I'd take a camera along and do some "reporting" while in attendance.

Maybe a couple video podcasts, article write-ups, and of course plugging Mashable for pimping me out with a ticket.

But most of all, I just love being around smart people who are innovative and have desire to build tools that bring all of us humans closer together. I have no doubt that it will be the internet and tech related things that bridge together many of the differences we have across the globe. I believe things such as peace are much more possible because of rapid advancements in communication in the tech world.

So in closing, I wanna hook up with these people. Rub shoulders with them. Share ideas. Develop friends and colleagues. Then, share these experiences with others.

That's about it.

Peace

in 2009/02/09/should-twitter-verify-celebrity-accounts/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
The problem goes a bit deeper then just celebrities. Spammers are pounding and impersonating anyone in the marketing industry who has a decent following.

Then they have bots go follow everyone and their mother in hopes to sell some pathetic "How to game Twitter" product.

They will definitely need to beef up some security as celebrity imposters are just one of the problems.

Thankfully, Twitter has been damn good at purging these bogus accounts fairly quickly.

People's is hands down the best grocery store in San Diego. Try the "Fortina Mint Cacao" candy bars. Freaking heaven.

Or, bump it up a notch and go for the Uli Manna chocolate in the jar and put it on top of some strawberries. Orgasmic.

I'm not sure how much good it does to even publish this story to be honest. Just giving these guys more attention is probably having them jump with joy.

And let's face it, tons of spamming marketers read the stuff here, and they are probably off buying the crap right now because of this and other stories condemning the software.

Agreed, the software is another pollutant.

Telling people about it probably ain't the wisest move if you ask me.

I didn't even know who this dude was until this morning when my lady forwarded me that video. I don't have long enough attention span for movies.

He sure sounded like a douchebag in that audio. Definitely not a good first impression for me.

in Baked versus Raw Sweet Potatos on Go Raw Chicago
I baked a sweet potato basil bake for our thanksgiving as well. I was on the 3rd week of the Ejuva cleanse so I couldn't eat much, but I did enjoy the sweet potato's.

I dig that you allow yourself that 2% to enjoy some cooked things. Nice to keep things flexible.

in Fall Detox Time on Go Raw Chicago
I was in Chicago last week and had been wanting to go there my entire life. (Big time Cubbies fan). I had a blast while there, despite the Cubs losing, and really enjoyed being able to enjoy the city before it got cold.

I got to go to Wrigley Field (life long dream), see the Bears play, and see the White Sox win the AL Central. Okay, I'm a sports nerd.

Anyhow, I had a hard time eating great while there but did stumble across a cafe called Karyn's Cooked. While it was a cooked Vegan place, apparently Karyn is a Raw Foodist as well. I was really stoked to find that place as I was super hungry, and hung over from too much partying while there.

So, since I got back I started a detox myself.

http://www.sunfood.com/buy/5/63/24/EJUVA-Herbal...

I'm doing that detox and eliminating all meat/dairy/alcohol and drugs. The last 2 are the tough one for me.

Anyhow, hope your cleanse/detox goes well, and thanks for the info you provide here. I subscribed to your RSS via my Google reader and look forward to reading future updates.

Peace

How about we just have a battle royal cage match after

I wish more blogs and forums would fight like this.

Because in the end, it just sells more stuff for all
sides involved.

Now who wants a knuckle sandwich from off the top rope?

Then back to Phoenix tomorrow (Saturday) and we will settle into our new digs in Sedona on Sunday.

in The Gold is In The Picks And Shovels on The Michel Fortin Blog
Great stuff Michel.

Great salesmen think alike. I view Facebook for fun and networking, but would never allocate all my time for these types of places if my goal was to put food on the table every night.

However, here is a good reason why some should participate at Facebook or similar sites like Myspace....

Nowadays it's near impossible to get a guru or marketing superstar to respond to emails. Too many of us are just pummeled with email requests and such.

But...

If you send one of these marketing guys a message at Myspace or Facebook it is 10 times more likely to get answered. Don't ask me why, but it just does.

It's the same as commenting on a particular marketers blog. All these dudes read the comments. It's a prime opportunity to rub virtual shoulders with alot of these guys.

But when it comes to making the cold hard money, I'll stick to Google myself.

Take care ya'll.
