in Txarli says it’s Time to Check in with our Readers! What have you been Drinking? on Catavino
I know I shouldn't be working late at night, after a day of hard work. But as wine tasting is my job I cannot help to open a sample and just enjoy it. So, just about 2 hours ago I was tasting a great fresh 2007 Sauvignon Blanc called "show". It's a vino de la tierra sample from the DO Manchuela area. I drank the wine with a home made salad while I was watching Inspector Lewis. The sample was not labeled so I didn't send you a photo. Shouldn't be too hard to find some importers out there. Great wine, great price, oops I'm working again... sorry

I've visited 5 very interesting wineries in the area. Perez Barquero, Alvaear, Robles, Toro Albala, and Coop la Aurora.
Each of them had very interesting wines, and each of them had an own story. I realy would like to follow your advice and visit Torres Burgos and Bodegas Delgado as well. hope to post my comments on the bodegas i visited.

Hi Ryan, I'll do my best to sponsor the Alimentaria Wine Blogging Dinner through Bodegas Tintoralba
(tintoralba.com/blog). About the EWBC in Rioja, I could contact some of the wineries I know to see if/how they can collaborate.
I suggest we get together for Alimentaria at Tuesday 11-March-2008, the second night of the fair.
Any suggestions where?

in Wine Blogging question - Do you have to charge to be considered “professional”? on Catavino
Ryan, maybe we all are professional amateurs?
I used to write for money until about 18 months ago. Then I started to do other things in the wine business. Now I don't have the time to write a lot. Does that mean I WAS a professional. This month after almost two years I started writing again (and this time not for money). I did some posts for blogs like catavino.es. Does that mean I AM an amateur again. Or is it possible that my post is professional but I am an amateur? Or the other way around? I'm getting PRETTY confused about this whole thing. I think that being a professional has to do a lot what other people think you are. This means that there are amateurs who earn six digits and profesionals who don't earn nothing. Now I'm probably even more confused. If I just write a post about what I like, and what I know, then I am amateur, right? But if that same article is published in a magazine (hard copy). Did I suddenly become a professional? What does that make me? A professional amateur?
As a typical Dutch saying says: I can't see the forrest through the trees.

Ryan I'm still confused about Pownce and micro blogging. I'm just starting to understand chapter one of macro blogging

in The Quest for Iberian Wine Knowledge! on Catavino
Hi Gabriella, to be honest I only know the books "Sherry" and "Wines of Spain". I think the last time I read the books was around 1995. I used to have more time back then. I don't know how many bottles it took me to finish the book, but after reading it, drinking sherry is even more enjoyable. There's only one thing better you can do after reading the book. That's going to Jerez, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlucar de Barrameda.

Hi Gabriella, as soon as you get to the sherry book, I will start reading with you. And let's hope more sherry lovers will. I know the book from some 10 years ago (former edition). I want to read the book again. Let me know when you start. And of course I will follow you wrestling your way through the other three books as well. Good luck and have fun tasting the wines...
