I was so blessed by your blog today...and then blessed again by reading everyone else's comments. It gave me much to think about. I have learned to let go of many things as I have matured, but one thing I am going to concentrate on LETTING GO is the need to shop to feel good. I am going to stay out of Target, even though it is may favorite store in the world. This may sound superficial but I do believe I can glorify God by discipining myself better in this way. The money I save can better bless my family and/or others and help me unclutter my home and the desire for more, more, more. I will think of Sara who is happy to breathing fresh air and go outside for the "rush" that Target gives me. Thanks for your Blog.

Three years ago my husband was diagnosed with cancer and told he probably would not make it beyond a year. God has blessed us with time and I will not take for granted hugging him and prayer.

I had to giggle when you talked about your girl being so clingy. My kids are the same way. Gracie is horrible right now on needing to be held by her momma! Actually in the evening when I finally head downstairs to watch tv with the family I'll set in my normal spot and the minute my butt hits the couch Grant slides in up against and Gracie sits on my lap...lol I can't even actually SIT on the couch by them...they have to be touching me...little goofballs!

This made me snicker....Gracie is the EXACT SAME WAY. Sometimes it drives me batty...lol I still let her wear what she wants but she'll be in sweatpants and sweatshirt when it's 90 degrees out. And 9 times out of ten she'll have a coat on no matter how hot it is. Goofy girls!!

I am actually volunteering in Obama's campaign, I cannot begin to tell you how packed the schedule is. As for Hillary, her campaign thought that Super Tuesday, was as we all know, her coronation. She actually had nothing planned in the primaries and caucuses after Super Tuesday and that is why she could make space to attend the State of the Black Union. It is not as if moved around everything and made sacrifices. She needs the free airtime and she needs to cut into Obama's strong hold on the black vote. If she can do that, then she will have better chances in the upcoming primaries, caucuses and hybrids.

Tavis kept acting like it was supposed to be a debate but you cannot debate with one person. She is knowing getting a stump speech??? I respect Tavis Smiley and his decisions but I feel that Michelle Obama should have been invited, I think that she would have been able to add a lot to the conversation. He was talking about Obama missing an opportunity but I think the SOTBU missed an opportunity by not allowing Michelle to say a could words. We are talking about the potential first black first lady here!

Nonetheless, I am a tad bit disappointed that the State of the Black Union this year sounds more like the State of the Election. Were there any other issues discussed?

I was out all day and couldn't watch the SOTBU. The comments are helpful thanks!

I think brother Barack knew that her may be wasting his time? Yup...Yup...she is doing anything at this point. This is unfortunate. I felt a lot of hate and resentment in her voice. So much for the man she was happy to be sitting next to at Thursday's debate. She is obviously childish, arrogant, a coward and a hypocrite. She is a pessimist who seems to not understand the principles that this very land was founded on.

What saddens me is that I would have never said any of those things a year ago. She is my junior senator and I admired her for being a strong woman and what I thought to be a good politican. You know as I look at what is happening, I am getting more and more increasingly upset. My cousins' father is from Jordan. Which makes them half Jamaican and half Jordanian They have Muslim names. They resemble Barack. They often face being ostracized and discriminated against...and they are Americans and Christians except for two of them. People also seemed to have a heightened fear of black Muslims which they often tell me about. When the Clinton campaign and the media use these tactics, to smear Obama (who is a CHRISTIAN) it turns the sword that has already been penetrated into Arab Muslims, Arab Christians, African Muslims, black muslims and all the people from that whole region (africa and the middle east) who live in this country. My cousins talk about their name and background being a barrier in many places and seeing Barack Obama up there is an inspiration, when things like this are done, it is wrong.

P.S. Some are also trying to make Obama look like a follower of Louis Farrakhan. This weekend brother Louis made his first appearance sinc ebeing really ill at an event. He spent much of the time praising Obama. So people are trying to draw a correaltion between him and Farrakhan. They try to also use the fact that his Pastor Jeremiah Wright gave Farrakhan an award that was sponsored by the church.

Boy Oh Boy.

D., I agree that it is fear-mongering but it is also racial. Think about the bigger picture. They are banking on people's fear of Islam and yes, people of color from certain parts of the world. Igniting fear in a group of people about another group of people is prejudice.

They pulled this tactic when they were publicizing ALL latinos as racist against blacks. The Clinton campaign is banking on people's prejudice in so many ways in order to win and its no ok, by any means.

Yea, i'm also a volunteer and i'm trying to head up to Rhode Island to campaign. I'm from Hillaryland-NY. My fam lives 20 minutes away from her and I live in Brooklyn. My professor last week try to compare Obama to Hitler and this week another one tried to compare him to Jim Jones (the cult guy).

We are his firewall!! Thank you, Jack & Jill Politics and everyone on this blog. We must be civically active. i spend a lot of time trying to debunk false attacks, they are rampant and I educate people about him. I have also been phone banking. I will take your advice and donate in small portions.

Thanks B-Serious. I just got back from The Root where I was trying to defend Lacewell. As a black female, I cannot relate with Hillary's white female privelege.

Her tactics during this campaign has been nothing less than ugly.

As I sit here commenting, I am watching Sean Hannity blast Michelle Obama's statement and college thesis and the Obama's church for being too radical and black. He is saying that the "American people don't know anything about this guy and that's serious". He has Newt Gingrich on. He said that it needs to be brought up!! What non-sense.

I agree with you Rikyrah and its unfortunate. I have been familiar with that church, one of my professors attended it when she lived in Chicago and always speaks fondly of it. I love the church and its message. However many are spinning it and I am simply saying that I hope they dont and I hope people dont buy the lies. I think many Obama supporters are much, much smarter. Stephanie Tubbs Jones is on something! She is just embarassing. I wonder whats being put in her "malt liquor'. She is smiling like an idiot, she can't make a sentence and when she does she makes no sense. Her comment about Obama and owning King's dream tells me about how she and a lot of the black establishment look at Obama. I knew it, at least she admitted it. She continued to talk about black men for Obama and black women for Hillary, by referencing Dyson, jackson and their wives. She makes no sense.

Hillary was so open about her gender being this big plus, god forbid Obama ever did the same thing. There is an obvious double standard.

I like Obama's church and believe in their message.I love how his pastor said that, Bill Clinton did to black people what he did to monica Lewinsky"..its so right. An old professor of mine actually attended it when she was at the University at Chicago for her masters. She would always speak fondly of it. However i know how the media loves to spin and fear monger esp when they have Farrakhan in the pciture and I hope that they dont entertain creating a non-issue. Of course, this is an old issue that is being brought up. The Rezko thing was an old and debunked issue that was brought up by Hillary's desperate behind but people entertained it for too long regardless.

I'm watching the debate again, Hillary looked kind of defeated at points. I'm studying her body language. She usually has this smirk on her face but she looks like shes about to cry.

Darrell Simmons from CNN, is a smary guy. He always says the right things. I heard him talking yesterday, its a non-issue unless people want to either spin it like they did Michelle's comment and the allegations of him being a radical muslim for the past year. Russert brought it up to close any suspicion. Now if it were Hillary trying to make a point by bringing it up then i would slap her and bar her from pandering in any black church. Both Jesse Jackson and Simmons handled it well. There are never questions or suspicion when it is the opposite way around.

It is sad to watch our so called "black leadership" sit on the sidelines and allow this to happen.

By the way, I was reading about how the Clinton and McCain campaign managers are "friends". McCain has been using the same tactics as the Clinton Campaign. They have the same talking points and they even have their surrogates introducing them and going after Obama in a way that is unacceptable. At least McCain came out right away and denounced it unlike the Clintons.

I'm listening to Michael Baisden, Roland Martin is on...he is talking about the black leadership and how they aren't working for themselves and that they are working for their constituencies. He was like these people want to keep their jobs. You guys were all talking about people running against those in the CBC who aren't looking out for the best interests of their people. Roland Martin said that a 30-year old pastor is about to run against 68-year old John Lewis for re-election. He believes that it has something to do with it. He said that these people are taking those in the CBC to task for their support for the Clintons.

P.S. Bill Clinton endorsed the Million Man March which was orchestrated by Farrakan, so should someone ask the Clintons about Farrakan? I am going to throw this at those Clinton supporters who keep bringing it up and trying to make a big issue out of it. I was at the Million Family March in 2000 by the way.

I think that Tim Russert and MSNBC, came at both Clinton and Obama. Her complaining about getting it harder and how Obama never gets any queestion fell flat. She tries so hard and it can get tiring. Obama was cornered about public financing and he needs to accept public financing. It would be the biggest mistake. I believe that he has re-thought and wants to backtrack but it will look like he didnt keep his promise. As a voter, who is publically financing him, I wouldnt mind. Obama was strong on his discussion of engaging the American people and transparency, that was one of the initial reasons why I began supporting him. His grassroots support is amazing. When you allow special interests to finance your entire campaign, they own you. As of right now, over 1 million small donors own the majority of Obama's campaign. They says a lot.

I love this! You do your thing Derrick! You know last year, I wrote a paper about the Hip Hop generation and civic activism. This is the embodiment of everything that I was hoping for, and predicted. We need new leadership and we need to hold our leadership accountable, we need to participate in politics and the political process and so forth.

In a related topic, I was speaking about black women and hip hop. Stay with me on this one. I had concluded that when your voice isn’t heard and you lack representation, you lose your sense of power and that power is often given to someone who in essence doesn’t have your best interest in mind. I also concluded that large corporations and media have influenced hip-hop to go in a different direction from where it had begun on the streets of my hometown. Michaela Angela Davis often speak about “taking back the music” and “passing the mic”. I have been spending the last year trying to push black youth into making their voices heard and louder in not only reforming our media, media representations and music but especially in the political process. I hope I am making sense. I also spoke about the role of hip-hop in politics. I referenced Bakari Kitwana’s Hip Hop Generation book and put a big influence on the final chapter on the Hip Hop Generation defining their political agenda. I feel that new technology such as YouTube and the photosphere give the youth power to spread how they feel about politics. It is an alternative voice to what is being constantly covered in the media. These people can often give a different perspective. You guys here at Jack and Jill Politics are a prime example of this. The so called “black leadership” must no longer speak for us.

Obama's candidacy isn't enough without people engaging themselves in the politics and the political process. When our critics claim that Obama is yet to outline what he means by change, and that hope is rhetoric and that he and his candidacy lacks substance because he is speaks of certain ideals, I realize that they are truly missing the very foundation of his candidacy. He is inspiring the American people to empower themselves so that their voices can be heard above those of the special interests, politicians and others in the government and yes, media. In order to make America a not only inclusive place but also a real democracy that looks out for the best interest of the people.

When Obama raised money through One million small donors (the American people), he proved this. When critics speak about Obama they act like Americans are losing power when in actually they are gaining the power. Let’s keep it up!!

I was going to join the conversation but you guys have put everything out there. I noticed that D. has waved his "flag of surrender" when presented with facts. Iraq is NOW a problem.

Obama is not planning on remoivng all of the troops the minute he gets into office like a lot of fear-mongering Republicans are trying to say. Obama has already discussed his 16-month strategy. He has said in the past something to the effect of [we should not be as careless pulling the troops out as we were getting them in]

What I am most annoyed of is the fact that these people are belittling Obama and saying that those who support him are acting out of emotion. I scream each time I hear that.

Like you, I don’t romanticize the role of the president. Indeed, it is our job as intellectuals, activists, and everyday citizens to force politicians to operate in our interests. This is precisely why it is so critical that we support an individual who at least articulates a politics that is aligned with our struggle. While Obama may be more progressive than Hillary, his politics stand in sharp contrast to those of Kucinich, Edwards, and countless others whose “viability” (a term I detest) is undermined by our failure to support them. By exhausting our hope at the level of the immediate and the pragmatic, we create a self-fulfilling prophecy that says that we can’t do any better than choose between two corporate controlled centrists.

I'm feel that a lot of African Americans are seeing it this way, many are voting for Clinton just to oppose Obama, others are seeking other party options and many are siiting out.

Here is where I enter:

Hillary Rodham Clinton is the better choice for African Americans?

When these superdelegates/the Black establishment/ black elected officials act as if black people are not smart enought to make a decision on the right political candidate and when they act as if we are acting out of emotion because Obama is BLACK, it is belittling. It is worse when they do it for the white media. They dont just simply state that they support Hillary Clinton, they go further and make blanket statements about the black electorate. This is the same thing that made me upset with Bill Clitnon. He was in SC telling people not to make other black people "threaten" and "bully" them into voting for Obama. These black clinton supporters are basically doing the same thing.

I did my research and have realized that Obama has outlined a plan for urban America (housing, poverty, crime etc..) That is amongst my top issues. He has spoken out against domestic violence and abuse towards women in the United States and abroad. I like his poltics of transparency, something he has been advocating for and fighting for since he was in the Illinois State Senate. I am don't think Obama is perfect and I plan on holding him accountable as I would with any other leader. If I was planning on voting for someone who has never made a mistake, who has never said something that I disagree with or have voted for something that I dont approve of, then I would have no one to vote for not only in this election but...EVER!!

P.S. My friend wrote a letter to Rangel who is her congressman telling him why she supports Obama and why she feels he is the best for the citizens of Harlem. She did include in the letter that she didnt not agree with much of his criticisms. Mabye they are seeing this as a threat.

I absolutely love my crockpot and use it every week! I usually cook a huge package of chicken breast with some added seasoning at the beginning of the week in my crockpot. Using this chicken I use it during the week for various meals...like adding to pasta meals, ranch chicken wraps, salads, or chicken sandwiches for lunches.

It's also great for simmering chilli on a cold wintery day.

I paper scrapbook and I've thought about going digital with my scrapbooking but just haven't went down that road yet. Maybe it's b/c I have spent hundreds of dollars in scrapbooking supplies so I'd feel quilty letting them collect even more dust in my drawers then they are now...LOL But after seeing your blog I've choose to look at her blog packs...that I might add it's been forever since I've looked at her store site so I didn't even realize she did them. But I'm LOVING them. How sweet are they!! I couldn't choose just one of course...My favorites are Hipster, Letters, and the Bohemian Traveler's pack.

I hopped on to read the other comments and noticed mine never posted. My computer was acting funny yesterday when I tried to post and it must have cleared it and never sent. Anyways....

Grief is a crazy thing. Everyone grieves different for different things. I having lost a child know that grief you feel. I will say it's a different grief from what I feel from losing my mom last year. It still hurts everyday but it has gotten easier.

I believe there is hope. It does get easier to grasp everyday. As you know my daughter was stillborn so her birthday and date of death are the same so I only have one day to "remind me" of an anniversay/birthdate. But every other day something reminds me of what she might have been doing.

I'm so glad you posted this and it awesome to know you've helped so many moms deal. Our forum was a wonderful place as well and we shared in your pain and heartache. It just doesn't seem fair that we at sucha young age have to deal with the death of a child. But we all have each other and we can give each other the strength we need to get through the day.

Adorable! Grant wrote his last week and drew a picture of him and Santa. Almost made me cry of joy it was so cute! If you go to www.northpole.com they can actually e-mail Santa and he replies back. Grant got his reply this morning. He is going to be sooooo excited when he gets off the bus tonight! hehe Don't forget to make reindeer food for the reindeer on CHristmas eve! I'm a mean mom is what I'm told. Also Grant swears his legs are broken and that is why he can't. Or his most famous one....."I'm not cleaning up all of these toys they are Gracie's!" As I'm hearing those words I look around to find tractors, star wars toys, his crayons, etc scattered across the floor. He's such a jokester. Gracie does pretty well....sometimes she just tells me "no" but then other times she sings her clean up song. It's very cute!

We should have asked tougher questions and held the administration accountable when it became clear that their analysis was faulty. We need to redirect the resources of our military to go after Bin Laden and Al Qaeda in the tribal regions of Pakistan, rather than using them to go after a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.

Inspiring Fellow Americans to break out of the Cycle of Poverty

Like most Americans, I would support spending on effective social programs where the benefits are clearly greater than the costs. As a community organizer in Chicago's south side neighborhoods, I believe Senator Obama can bring fresh insights into how we can help those people break out of their cycles of poverty. I am reading Sudhir Venkatesh's book on the housing projects of Chicago; I believe there is a great opportunity for change there. Sometimes it isn't just about money; I believe a little inspiration can be even more powerful than cash, and the historic opportunity of having someone from a broken home and humble beginnings attain the highest office in the land should be great inspiration.

Foreign Policy

I grew up in the Middle East in the '70s when the US was admired around the globe for our system of democracy and the openness and transparency of our institutions. After Vietnam, we wisely got out of the nation building business and pretty much stayed out of that business until it became the justification of last resort for the Iraq war. Beyond the cost in blood and dollars, the Iraq war is taking away our focus from other areas that need our focus such as the Palestinian issue and Darfur.

Communication

Like John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan, Senator Obama is a gifted communicator. It is important that the leader of our country communicates with us not in a way that divides us, in all the ways that we can be divided, but in a way that inspires us to come together in a common purpose."

This is an interesting topic regarding the black political leadership. People say that history repeats itself so here is some history.

In the 1930s, there was a shift in African American allegiance from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. Many factors contributed to this shift. The flood of 1927 and the negligence of the Hoover administration, The Great Depression which lead the African American community into further economic depression and the New Deal which aided many. The need for political upward mobility and the idea of empowerment vs. subordination was another. For these reasons, many in the black community were pushing for blacks to switch their allegiance because it would be in the best interest of their people.

There was much infighting amongst black political leaders and it was very much a generational divide as it is today. Many younger leaders faced opposition from the older more established leaders in the Republican Party. They felt that they should stay in the Republican Party because of their allegiance with the party and the fact that it was the party of Lincoln. They believed this despite the disappointment of the Hoover administration, despite the fact that the Republican Party often did not operate with the best interest of the black community in mind and despite the fact that the Republican Party limited their own political voice and advancement. Many of the established and older black politicians even tried to block the advancement of the younger politicians who were representative of this new thinking. In a book that I once used on this topic, the author writes:

�Younger blacks especially spoke with some disdain for their elders, who were firmly established in the Republican political hierarchy. They painted an unflattering portrait: �handkerchief heads,� they called them-old party warhorses, self-interested, self-satisfied, feeding off the patronage of white political machines and insensitive to the broader concerns of the race.�

Despite the fact that both Clinton and Obama are in the same party, this historical occurrence is very relevant today with what we are seeing with the black establishment breaking for the Clintons. Many never bothered to look into any other candidate preferring to hold onto old allegiances.

Many looked at Obama with disdain for several reasons, he had the audacity to try and run against Clinton, they did not trust him because he was technically outside the circle and is preaching a different kind of politics, they felt that he may take away from their importance and leverage as the connection between the black electorate and the democratic party amongst other things. The black political establishment is holding onto what can be seen as the Clinton legacy or for some, the Clinton �fairytale� in the same way, those of the black political establishment in the Republican party of the 1930s held on to the legacy of Lincoln.

I am from Brooklyn, I will assure you that the Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn never had plans of supporting Obama...trust me, they are simply looking for any excuse. Pastor Jermiah Wright has never said anything anti-semitic. Obama has made it clear his support for Israel. In addition, when Wright praised Farrakhan, he praised him for what he had done for the black community on many fronts not for his anti-semitic statements.

Lets talk about Pastor Hague who endorsed McCain, McCain has not rejected his endorsement and he has made anti-Catholic statements which I take personally offensive since I am Catholic. There is a double standard obviously.

I've known about the Rezko non-issue since 2006!! It isnt new. Various media outlets esp. those in Chicago have questioned him about it!! I dont know why people. like Wolfson (Hillary's Communications guy) continues to say that people ignore it and nobody is asking him about it!!! Who is Hillary Clinton to tell anybody about ethics and scandal...hasnt she had he share...the more I read about her the shadier she gets...please!!!

I'm so sick of the media in this whole thing. Hillary Clinton has control over the media. She even has control over the media to the point that she can convince them that they are biased towards Obama. All I have ever seen was the media paint Obama as an empty suit with no substance and not a single accomplishment.The media is a joke and the Clintons are like the big bullies. I think that they have put Obama at a major diadvantage with their rhetoric than they have Clinton. Clinton doesnt hve the momentum and its her fault!! P.S. Charlie Crist is allowing the DNC to do a Florida do-over. I'm havent heard if the DNC will agree. I actually dont think that it is a bad thing. In addition, John Edwards was still in the race. Many of his support may cross over to Obama which will make him more competitive. Obama will have a chance to campaign in the state and also his amazing grassroots organizers will be able to head down there.I will head down there and get my 68 family members and 55 plus associates!! in FL to round up some voters.

Michael Nutter is supporting Hillary I think because Obama was backing one of his opponents in the mayorial race last year. Thats my assessment. He made some silly comments saying that he refused to let Philadelphia go to Obama and he will work hard and give everything. He claims that Hillary has all the plans for urban policy and she will fund and fix our cities and help inner city people??? He claimed that he sat down with both of them and made the "educated" choice.

I live in New York and its a quick drive away from Philadelphia and Scranton and New Haven etc... I'm heading out there this weekend. He NEEDS to win Pennsylvania. I want him to stick mostly (70%) to getting those white blue collar workers that Hillary is banking on and I and the thousands of volunteers need to bumrush the whole state but especially Philly, the Philly suburbs and the parts right around New York and NYC. Penns demographics are tricky but we can do it. Obama pulled 92& of the black vote in Mississippi. The 70% white vote for Mizz Hillary is expected in Mississippi...its Mississippi point blank. I got lost in Mississippi right around a swamp in the delta on a road trip...I thought my life was over. We know the history...the fact that Obama won Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Iowa, one of the Dakotas, Maine...hello??? Not buying that.

I am going to Philly this weekend and like every weekend, I'm going to the city. I need to get every black person that is 18 years old registered (by March 24) and I need to tell them why Obama is the superior choice...no sitting back people!! Then I have friends at Penn State, Bucknell, Villanova, UPenn, Temple, Bryn Mawr, Carnegie Mellon and the list goes on. I will get there butts up too. It is a fight and I dont mean to sound dramati put Obama has to win this. I am happy that I did not indicate my race when I registered to vote because as usual it’s used against you.

When I hear black people side with whites in their banter about blacks voting for blacks I get upset...you know why...for the white man!! blacks uniting and coming together in any type of way is a threat (Birth of A Nation-esque)...period under any circumstances. It’s a threat to their control and power.

For African Americans, Hillary Clinton and John McCain are not options. When there were more people in the race. John Edwards was popular. My mother was in support of him until he dropped out as were others.

If Barack Obama was not a exceptional politician...he wouldn’t have gained traction regardless of race.

The words and themes HOPE and CHANGE and FAITH etc... resonate with African Americans for reasons that everyone should know.

My old neighbor as a child used to tell me how much she adored Kennedy because of his inspiring message and the feeling that he could change this country for the better etc...JFK held a certain affinity with blacks then. She had photographs, old buttons, campaign material that she saved and the whole nine. Its the same thing.

John F. Kennedy was a white man.

Obama appeals to black voters for many reasons, I am voting for him because his platform of transparency and accountability. That is what first attracted me. Then I read about his plans for the cities. He had a good record on issues that I care about. However of course I don’t agree with everything he has voted for. I like his healthcare plan and as an independent I like his bipartisan politics. The fact that he wants to restore our reputation around the world and it even goes further because its topped with an inspirational message of unity, inclusion, hope and change. They are not just words, they are calls to action and ideologies that needed to be a part of our country's future. Now if he was a white man, not only would he be the nominee, he would be the inevitable nominee and I would support him for all of those reasons above with enthusiasm!!!!

Let me tell you this, amongst all of my reasons for my passionate support for Obama, my ability to identify with him and his family as African Americans like me is one of them. I admire Michelle Obama. However I don’t weight it any heavier than the above issues, if he didn’t represent and stand for everything above (- his race), I would not support him regardless. For me or anyone to support someone solely on race or GENDER would be stupid...just stupid. I could name you a lot of black people and women in politics that I would not support. Do you think if Clarence Thomas was running for president, black people would vote for him?? His ideologies are different, I don’t agree with what he stands for so of course not.

When people talk about blacks being monolithic, we are not monolithic, we are boxed in. The Republican party which I have tried out, is not a choice for the majority of African Americans. Democrats are a better choice but not by NO MEANS ideal however we benefit from WHATS GOOD of their policies. There are two large parties, take your pick. Many blacks chose the lesser evil really. I beleive that blacks should be independents however if we all move their then once again we a monolithic so mabye I shouldnt spread the good idea.

When he won Iowa, they realized that he had a chance and went into overdrive with their mudslinging!! So Ferraro made those comments a couple years ago and thought that she knew how it was always going to be. Now that America is proving her wrong shouldn’t she be happy since she isn’t racist...no because she sees it as an obvious threat to her!!! and of course it’s not benefiting her candidate.

Those comments confirm that she really thought America would not elect or come close to electing a black person. She was probably happy about that or comfortable with that. Trust me these white democrats have been taken off guard with Obama's wins. Hillary, her campaign and her supporters was and still is banking on racism from all directions in order to win. They always thought that it would be easy for a white woman but never a black person of any gender. I always said that white democrats can control and contained blacks when they are victims and even “inferior”. They enjoyed that kind of power and superiority. My father would like to take Geraldine Ferraro and people of her thought patterns and persuasion down to good ole Wall Street. My father, the LUCKY BLACK MAN has had the privelege of working for less that his white counterparts, male and FEMALE, he has been working his butt of for 20 years and has had the privelege of never being promoted. Meanwhile white girls half his age leave Princeton (some of them get in because of their family status and wealth)come to the company step all over my father and advance. These women do face sexism and sexual harassment, no doubt about it but at that point, they are already high above my father. My father has the privelege of getting no respect from anyone including these victimized white women. They approach him with their condescending attitudes that is a result of their white privelege but dont forget he is lucky. One even ran up to him one time when he was in a hallway and told him, "Sir...the toliet in the women's bathroom needs to get fixed". Hmmm...so I guess the fact that he is wearing a suit on a trading floor means that he is a custodian...but then again he is just so lucky to be there and be who he is. I'm waitng for the rest of the world to get "caught up in the concept."

Let me tell anybody who reads this THAT it has been white men getting over with empty resumes because their unearned white privelege has rewarded them in all facets of life. When you are black you have to work three times as hard to be even considered and you must not just be good but exceptional.

The CBC are indeed a bunch of hankerchief heads along with members of the NAACP end of discussion. Hankerchief head is the most fitting term period. As for Maggies Williams...no comment.

Mary Frances Berry reminds me of my ole aunt who will support the Clintons to any extent until she dies. Its pretty embarassing.

Obama has been quiet with almost every one the personal attacks against him. He is right see stand up for himself. If he didnt then they would probably be like oh...he's to weak etc etc...If he didnt respond then I actaully would be upset with him.

Keith Olberman put it on national TV, the truth end of discussion. It was about time that someone in the media blew the whistle!!

P.S. As I said, If Obama wins its because he's black and if he loses its because he's black...the Clintons are going to continue to inject race anywhere possible. In addition, not that I agree but Obama did say that there was no "White America" when he says that I believe that he is trying to open up discourse so that we can come together, understand each other and improve our country...thats what I took from it but I could be wrong.

I was never cold with Obama because I tuned out the media and everyone who was getting to know the guy. My roomate is from Chicago and he used to represent her district in the Illinois State Senate. her mother campiagned with him for House of Rep in 2000 and she volunteered for him when he was running for the Senate. So I had known from somebody that he did good for his communtiy. I do hope that he will continue. Rev. Wright had said that Obama may have to distance himself from him when he runs for president, he said that.I beleive that Wright was still at his announcement but he didnt speak, I heard that he prayed with the family before the announcement. However I dont think that he needs to distance himself from Jeremiah Wright, I agree with B-serious he needs to be open about it. He will have to however openly disagree with some of Wrights statements etc... which he has done before but will have to do again with this last uprising of the same story. He needs to find a soultion to this because its going to keep popping up.

They are not looking at what the church represents and many are uneducated about what their country has done and is still doing. The corporate media is owned by large media conglomerates with one view!! So for example, my parents are watching the TV and seeing it for the first time and they are nowing saying that Obama is done and they dont know if they can support him. I'm trying to tell them the truth but of course they go with what they are hearing and how it is being framed. He's not finished trust me!! I have people blowing up my phone who all want to come on the trip to Philly tommorow. So far we have 380...yes...380 people who are coming from NYC and Westchester (Hillary's neighbors). That number will grow. He still has enthusiastic volunteers and support. The crowd is mostly white like 80%. I'm sure they are watching the news. The best thing to do is volunteer and get the truth out to as many ppl as possible.

Angela, yup, I always discuss that when people talk about Hillary's foreign policy experience.

For some of you anonymous people, identify yourselves. If Obama throws right under the bus and then backs up and runs over him again, then he will be doing that to some of his support. People need to not buy into what the media is telling you and go read...find out for yourself. There are many who have said that it wont be that big of an issue, some say it will be something he has to deal with quickly but all I know is that my phone is blowing up with people of all races, ages, genders and classes who want to come and campaign in Philly this weekend. I will go ahead and bring it up at our meeting this evening with Women for Obama and see what I hear. Hopefully I can eradicated any falsehoods like white people can't go to TUCC.

What will make some of you happy? What do you suggest his method to be for throwing this respected black minister under the bus. On Obama's website there are facts on the church. They are there for you to read...go read. If you ever supported the guy then you would have known that.

B.Serious, made a wonderful suggestion and I think that that is the best way to handle it. Obama believes in transparency...there you go. I believe that if people were able to see those who go there, they would not see it as a "threat".

I feel you 100 hundred percent. I am drained and I'm so upset I cant think. Rev. Wright is a U.S. Marine and a smart man. Watching these rich, conservative whites who dont want to hear about their country calling Wright racist??? Is killing me. Its killing me. I feel bad for Obama and esp. Rev Wright.

Let me tell you this David Gergen and Roland Martin did a good job on CNN discussing it. I cant even write right now. They want him to throw Wright under the bus, they would love to see it. What really gets to me is that do these white people who benefit from white privelege realize that blacks may be having a different experience due our history?? Come on. Its sheer ignorance and arrogance. Why dont they get people who know what they are talking about when they discuss this. Lets be serious.

As for another post on another spread I was reading, where are all the people who were upset last year when he disinvited his pastor? All the "he's not black enough?" crowd. I remember that....hmmm...from what I heard Marc Lamont Hill?? was saying he should reject his pastor? I didnt watch it I am going by word of mouth.

Anon...I know what you are saying. However why dont other people try and look at someone else's perspective or experience for a change. I am actually upset with Obama right now. Racism still exists. I was born in 1986, my parents are from the Caribbean, they did not come here with certain "resentments from the past". However the way this country has treated me and my family is everything but democratic. Why dont the "other" try and figure out for a change the black experience in American rather than it being the other way around. A part of unity is understanding. We will never get beyond race if they aren't aware. I mean this is making me upset. Obama has to be their puppet in order for them to accept him. I dont think this country will ever change.

Inclusiveness, Unity, change...not with what i'm hearing...a part of that is understanding. When has anyone tried to understand the black experience. They dont know this man, playing segments doesnt help anyhting. They aren't putting it into context. I give up. I give up.

Obama looks pretty calm under pressure and he does what he has to do a respectful manner. Why dont you go with Hillary...she is probably stealing pledged delegates while everyone in worrying about the fact that Rev.Wright said things that have been said and are true. Let's get real.

Let's be serious the real hate is the fact that this country HATES to hear the truth.

Nicely put. That was my issue yesterday with this whole thing. To be totally truthful, his response to the situation did not sit right with me. I was born in 1986 and have seen enough prejudice and racial inequality that took place in my 21 semi years. I dont need to be holding anger in from the 60s. yea I feel you, white people dont ever want have anyhting but on them. They dont want to hear the truth. You cant play safe with me, they will run you right over.

Ok I am annoyed.So I am in Philly at the headquarters, a guys brings up Obama'a pastor and they all begin a convo. I stayed out of it to just hear their reaction. Pretty much they said that black people are still holding on to issues from the past and they need to get past that and get over it. Obama will be the one to tell them to do that. Oh really...

I held my tongue. More said it and then went further to actually assert that black parents who were around back in the day teach their children that it exists today. They claim that that is the "dangerous" cycle. One woman claimed that, "she was sorry for those people and that Obama will be a good rolemodel to teach them better".

I had to ask them, what is "it"? Some said "opression", some said "racism". One actually had the gaul to say that black people have been "paranoid" for a while. A guy who is an organizer in Philly actually said that "like Barack said it's something that has to be dealt with within the black community, it really has nothing to do with anyone else".

I really had to go in and school them. They were shocked. One actually apologized. This is exactly what we were just saying here. Are you kinding me? Are you serious?

I do wonder how his black supporters will respond to all of his speech. I love the face that he pointed out that blacks must expand our quest for justice to include the plight of Latinos, Asians, recent immigrants, etc. I don't know many black people who supported the latino immigrant marches.

I would like it if Latinos, Asians etc.. would include us. They dont want to identify themselves with us. When they want to and if they were willing to we would (trust me) accept. In addition, I am the first generation born in this country and the oldest person ion my family born in the United States. My family is Caribbean. I dont see Latinos including us when they discuss issues in the immigration issue. They dont.

In addition, if Obama wasn't race neutral we couldnt get so far, period.

Cranky, we all know here what Wright was talking about. Many people in this country are still unaware of the institutionalized racism that exists in this country-education, media, government (criminal justice system, policies etc)etc.. I am yet to see anyone in the media tackle that. Any of that however we are dealing with a white opinion dominated corporate media. You will never hear a different perspective. One guy after the speech claimed that Obama still has to explain himself. He is trying to turn this on the American people when he should be answering questions as to why he entertained a racist and anti-american preacher. That just shows me how obvious it is that people dont get it. They wont. They are trying to keep this up cause they get a kick out of calling a black man racist and they dont want to hear about the realities of race in America. However I believe that this speech was effective and once again if anyone wants to still pull back their vote for Obama then they were never that dedicated to him to begin with.

First of all, please know that I know that Michelle Malkin is terrible, hateful and wrong most of the time. Also, please know that I know that Fox News is terrible, hateful, and wrong most of the time.

I think given Fox's track record and in context of all the other statements that were posted at the bottom of the screen, they have no intention of showing respect for Michelle Obama for a number of reasons.

That said, what came immediately to mind as I read this entry is the fact that Mrs. Obama introduced her husband as her "baby's daddy" on a national stage when he was first elected to Senate. Now, this is not necessarily a justification, but I think that should be noted because it will no doubt be quoted in their defense/apology (if they bother making one).

Also, some of you dont seem to understand the reason why some were not okay with the speech. Last time I checked, Barack was a politican. Why can't he address the issues that he can really help change in regards to government and the black community but can attack the short comings of some of us. How many times and how many people have said the same thing? Obama is not going to change certain things and he knows it. I know what he was trying to do with this.

I mean some of you said it! Blacks have no monopoly on any of the issues that people consider to be "bad black pathology" however we as a sociey still perpetuate it. I thought that Obama believed in American issues. I thought that he refused to label an issue exclusive to a race but he does it to us.

Also, some of you dont seem to understand that the only thing that people hear coming out of the black community is the negative. It doesnt matter if this does not apply to those with fathers or those who are fathers. We are al getting slapped with the label as everything else esp. when it is done on a national stage for all to see. The good never get the time of day only the bad. Yet with whites and others, the bad never gets the time of day.

I was angry with Obama when he told blacks in Texas to stop feeding their children "cold chicken for breakfast". That was not cute.

You see, my friends (McCain style) sometimes its not the message but how the message is framed and how it is presented. Whatever good intention he had was lost because of his failure to do the latter.

Wow just so happens "she got a call" THE DAY CASEY WENT TO JAIL! Does anyone else smell B.S.!? What phone did was supposedly called and why couldn't it be traced?? If the precious little girl isn't dead already (i know its sounds so horrible :sad: ) than I think maybe Casey got tired of being a mother and simply just handed her child off to someone who wanted her. She may have made a promise to not give away this person's name..? But you would think that if this was the case, now that she is being charged, she would start talking and say "ok i let so and so take my daughter with them.." but who knows, maybe drugs were involved..? I don't know, something is definately fishy with this case. I'm not a mother, but I have nieces and I KNOW myself, my sister, and my mother would be ALOT more emotional/mad/devastated that anyone in this family even shows. I have a bad feeling that Casey (and probably even Cindy) know that something bad has happened to this baby girl and they've tried to cover it up, but once others started asking about her, Casey finally called police.

My favorite uncle, Dewey, died in 1995. My niece was born in 1999. I had her for an adventure day when she was about 2 1/2. We were in the Wendy's restroom, and I had kneeled down to help her pull up her pants. She suddenly threw her arms around me and said, "Uncle Dewey loves you!" It still brings tears to my eyes to think about it. She would also jump up from play and express the desire to call my Aunt Audrey, Uncle Dewey's widow. I don't have the answers about this. Perhaps this is just one of those things that we were never meant to understand.

He has integrity and I am happy that he confronted it. He said exactly what I have been hoping he would, what I have been saying real unity is. Unity can only be achieved through understanding. I'm satisfied.

On a different note, I wish people can stop with the rhetoric. Seriously, I beleive people that a lot of people have had their heads in the sand when it comes to race relations. That is unfortunate. I hope that this has opened up progressive conversation.

This is how I feel. I am happy that this whole thing has opened up discourse. We have been closed off from one another.
Well at least, they have been closed off from us. I am quite aware of their thinking because I have to deal with them on a regular basis. They never want to hear the truth ever because they are not ok with being uncomfortable. That is the privilege that they have that we don’t. We can’t get away from it. My sister's friend didn’t understand what Rev Wright was talking about when he kept discussing privilege. She claims that he's crazy because a lot of whites aren’t rich and how Obama has more money than a lot of whites. It became aware to me that she had no idea of what white privilege is. I had to school her and she still didn’t get it. Many don’t understand the need for an “unabashedly black” church. They say if we replaced white with black then it would be racist. This makes me realize that they just don’t get it. Then they say imagine if we were talking about how rich black people were the reason for our downfall, you wouldn’t be offended. They don’t get it. Then I heard one say that he should loose his tax exempt for talking about politics in church. If you want to see politics turn on CNN. They don’t get it. We have been stripped of our history and taught to love and worship them and everything that they do and have while condemning ourselves and hating ourselves. We have to accept their culture, their way of thinking, their standards of beauty, their perspectives and their history. I mean how comfortable. How fair is that. You know we don’t have access to public space were we can promote our perspectives, culture and way of thinking. What affects so many of us are not discussed on “CNN”. The black church for over 200 years has been the center of the black community. Many of the movements in this country have been a result of this institution. Many people don’t understand that. Many don’t understand institutionalized racism.

Secondly, whites are scared of blacks. Period. They have been since we landed in this country. The only way that they feel unthreatened is if they are able to control us, exclude us and contain us. Period. They hate resistance. You must be safe. To them we are always conspiring. Our thoughts and feelings are suppressed. If Rev. Wright was preaching about prosperity and money (like Creflo Dollar) or had a big picture of a white Jesus on his website other than having the words “unabashedly black …” nobody would be talking. Of course not, they are scared of what is different from them.

I was not shocked by anything Jeremiah Wright had to say because I have heard it all before. Hardly anyone in the media has tried to take a part what the man had said. They are acting like Wright's feelings are so far off the edge.
They are acting like the man is a terrorist. Calling a black person un-patriotic or un-American is so old and has been used for years and years and years. "They call his thinking bizarre, sick and twisted" and that he's mental. Rev. Wright is brazen and upfront. That’s the point. He is not afraid to make capitalism and the status quo in this country go unchecked. I don’t agree with some of his wording because maybe if he said it differently, people may be more open to listen. However like you say, I am annoyed by the fact that people in this country, people are so afraid and unwilling and just too closed minded to engage in discourse. It makes me go crazy.

I am in support of him fully therefore I am campaigning for him in Philly. I completely understand what you are saying. I have been telling people that for a year when everybody was questioning him. From watching him, I am hoping that when he gets into office, he can withstand pressure.
It was confused about what e was implying the other night. He is to make a speech tommorow on race and I think that it is a good move. I will be in Philly and I hope that what he says puts my confusion aside.

I am not at all asking to be a race man. I am the only black person at both my jobs. I have to bit a tongue a lot and just assimilate and make whites comfortable at all times or its my head. I know how it feels to walk this tight rope. However I am just praying that he will do the right thing when the time comes.

Thats how I see it, you know we cannot "sweep it under a rug" like some in this country would like.

I was in Philly today and I heard somethings that I had to clear up. Some really thought that what Obama was saying last night was that black people need to get over their built up anger?? I must admit that his explanation did not sit with me right last night, I must. He made racial issues into a generational thing and acted as if it is a black problem. I was hoping that he would be more clear when walking the fine line. I would have been really upset if he kept acting like somehow black people need to deal with this within the black community as if prejudice and institutionalized racism dont exist today. There needs to be understanding and open mindedness on all sides. Thats the only way to true universal unity.

Wonderfully said. Watching the news media try and actually behave as if she had a point and should not be censored or as if Obama shouldnt have said anything was driving me nuts. Right up until I heard K.O. say it. Thank You Go for him. Only person on T.V who makes sense. What was worse was the BLACK FOLKS saying that she is right when it can be so easily turned back on them. I also noticed that 360 on CNN edited Obama's comments. They left out the part when he pretty much said because of the history of our country, her rants were "absurd". Hmm...why would they do that? Hmm...
