Yea, Obama is a role model as he is being looked upon as the only black man whose got it together. It works for his electability to make it seem that way.

Also, some of you dont seem to understand the reason why some were not okay with the speech. Last time I checked, Barack was a politican. Why can't he address the issues that he can really help change in regards to government and the black community but can attack the short comings of some of us. How many times and how many people have said the same thing? Obama is not going to change certain things and he knows it. I know what he was trying to do with this.


I mean some of you said it! Blacks have no monopoly on any of the issues that people consider to be "bad black pathology" however we as a sociey still perpetuate it. I thought that Obama believed in American issues. I thought that he refused to label an issue exclusive to a race but he does it to us.



Also, some of you dont seem to understand that the only thing that people hear coming out of the black community is the negative. It doesnt matter if this does not apply to those with fathers or those who are fathers. We are al getting slapped with the label as everything else esp. when it is done on a national stage for all to see. The good never get the time of day only the bad. Yet with whites and others, the bad never gets the time of day.



I was angry with Obama when he told blacks in Texas to stop feeding their children "cold chicken for breakfast". That was not cute.



You see, my friends (McCain style) sometimes its not the message but how the message is framed and how it is presented. Whatever good intention he had was lost because of his failure to do the latter.

Just to clarify, I just wanted to note that because I hadn't seen it mentioned in any of the blogs, and I KNOW someone on the other side is going to bring it up.



I am no fan of the "goose/gander" argument because as far as I'm concerned its shows an incredible amount of intellectual laziness--a fundamental ignorance about difference and the dynamics of power in this country.

First of all, please know that I know that Michelle Malkin is terrible, hateful and wrong most of the time. Also, please know that I know that Fox News is terrible, hateful, and wrong most of the time.


I think given Fox's track record and in context of all the other statements that were posted at the bottom of the screen, they have no intention of showing respect for Michelle Obama for a number of reasons.



That said, what came immediately to mind as I read this entry is the fact that Mrs. Obama introduced her husband as her "baby's daddy" on a national stage when he was first elected to Senate. Now, this is not necessarily a justification, but I think that should be noted because it will no doubt be quoted in their defense/apology (if they bother making one).

Actions speak louder than words. In addition, all those stupid talking heads (Fox News, the radio hosts) that they have in their party and the legacy of Reagan don't help.



I have a really strong opinion of my own in this respect however I will join the convo a lil later.

I was talking to a friend of mine who was telling me that a lawmaker had proposed using abortions against blacks as a form of crime control---of course there was controversy. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Cranky, we all know here what Wright was talking about. Many people in this country are still unaware of the institutionalized racism that exists in this country-education, media, government (criminal justice system, policies etc)etc.. I am yet to see anyone in the media tackle that. Any of that however we are dealing with a white opinion dominated corporate media. You will never hear a different perspective. One guy after the speech claimed that Obama still has to explain himself. He is trying to turn this on the American people when he should be answering questions as to why he entertained a racist and anti-american preacher. That just shows me how obvious it is that people dont get it. They wont. They are trying to keep this up cause they get a kick out of calling a black man racist and they dont want to hear about the realities of race in America. However I believe that this speech was effective and once again if anyone wants to still pull back their vote for Obama then they were never that dedicated to him to begin with.

Yea, i'm watching the speech now, I am happy that he is confronting it head on. He can operate and think under pressure, he is a uniter and he has good judgement. He is more than ready to be commander-in-chief!!

I do wonder how his black supporters will respond to all of his speech. I love the face that he pointed out that blacks must expand our quest for justice to include the plight of Latinos, Asians, recent immigrants, etc. I don't know many black people who supported the latino immigrant marches.





I would like it if Latinos, Asians etc.. would include us. They dont want to identify themselves with us. When they want to and if they were willing to we would (trust me) accept. In addition, I am the first generation born in this country and the oldest person ion my family born in the United States. My family is Caribbean. I dont see Latinos including us when they discuss issues in the immigration issue. They dont.



In addition, if Obama wasn't race neutral we couldnt get so far, period.

Ok I am annoyed.So I am in Philly at the headquarters, a guys brings up Obama'a pastor and they all begin a convo. I stayed out of it to just hear their reaction. Pretty much they said that black people are still holding on to issues from the past and they need to get past that and get over it. Obama will be the one to tell them to do that. Oh really...


I held my tongue. More said it and then went further to actually assert that black parents who were around back in the day teach their children that it exists today. They claim that that is the "dangerous" cycle. One woman claimed that, "she was sorry for those people and that Obama will be a good rolemodel to teach them better".



I had to ask them, what is "it"? Some said "opression", some said "racism". One actually had the gaul to say that black people have been "paranoid" for a while. A guy who is an organizer in Philly actually said that "like Barack said it's something that has to be dealt with within the black community, it really has nothing to do with anyone else".

I really had to go in and school them. They were shocked. One actually apologized. This is exactly what we were just saying here. Are you kinding me? Are you serious?

Yea, its annoying when people would constantly bring up Rezko after Hillary made her stupid statements at the debate in SC. Its been out for two years and reporters, mostly from Chicago, have asking him questions about it. I am happy that they did this and I hope that the rest of media and people who wish that they can muddy up Obama would stop saying that nobody is asking him questions.

However I must still ask who these pastors are who is steppin up now?

Nicely put. That was my issue yesterday with this whole thing. To be totally truthful, his response to the situation did not sit right with me. I was born in 1986 and have seen enough prejudice and racial inequality that took place in my 21 semi years. I dont need to be holding anger in from the 60s. yea I feel you, white people dont ever want have anyhting but on them. They dont want to hear the truth. You cant play safe with me, they will run you right over.



They dont want a black man in the White House, the want a puppet.

Obama looks pretty calm under pressure and he does what he has to do a respectful manner. Why dont you go with Hillary...she is probably stealing pledged delegates while everyone in worrying about the fact that Rev.Wright said things that have been said and are true. Anon...I know what you are saying. However why dont other people try and look at someone else's perspective or experience for a change. I am actually upset with Obama right now. Racism still exists. I was born in 1986, my parents are from the Caribbean, they did not come here with certain "resentments from the past". However the way this country has treated me and my family is everything but democratic. Why dont the "other" try and figure out for a change the black experience in American rather than it being the other way around. A part of unity is understanding. We will never get beyond race if they aren't aware. I mean this is making me upset. Obama has to be their puppet in order for them to accept him. I dont think this country will ever change.


Inclusiveness, Unity, change...not with what i'm hearing...a part of that is understanding. When has anyone tried to understand the black experience. They dont know this man, playing segments doesnt help anyhting. They aren't putting it into context. I give up. I give up.
