Reagan certainly did, and you apparently didn't read the rest of my post -- when I noted that people can be really proud of the history of this country, too. If it didn't happen in our lifetime (she and I are about the same age), why should that keep it from part of what makes us really proud about this nation?

To answer two of Teresa's points:

1. Mrs. Obama asserted that the cause of credit card debt is health care, which is absurd. Of course some people use credit cards for medication and treatment, but it's hardly the leading component of debt. It's sheer demagoguery to assert that.

2. Mr. Obama also said that her husband is the only candidate who understands that our souls are broken. Who is Barack Obama to judge anyone's soul but his own? What arrogance!

3. You'll notice that Mike Huckabee isn't getting a lot of Republicans to vote for him with that rhetoric. On the other hand, the Democrats are literally swooning over Barack Obama, despite their criticisms of Huckabee.

Yes it has. The FISA court ruled that anything passing through American switches requires a warrant, even if foreign-to-foreign. That was why the FISA reform got taken up last year, and why its expiration now will require warrants for foreign surveillance.

An extension for what? The Senate passed a bipartisan bill on Tuesday, and we've already had one two-week extension so that Congress could get their act together. All they need to do is vote on the bill the Senate already passed, six months after everyone knew this would come up now.

Tom, I'll give Lewis a little room here; every elected Democrat in Congress is a superdelegate. Ted Kennedy endorsed Obama before Massachusetts, for instance, and he's a superdelegate. I don't want to make Lewis sound worse than anyone else for endorsing a candidate.

It does, as you say, point out the problem with the superdelegate structure in the DNC. My point was more that Lewis' explanation for switching now indicates that he shouldn't have been endorsing anyone to begin with.

I think Obama will be tougher to beat than Hillary, but I see him as a beatable opponent. Like Keemo, I like him a lot more than Hillary, and I respect him more as well. I think he's a better person.

Fear? Not anywhere near as much. If he won, he's a man we can work with. It wouldn't be the end of the world.
