We agree that companies should be remarkable and give users a way to easily share their excitement on their own terms. We hate companies that ask for your account credentials only to post to your Facebook wall or tweet without your knowledge.

We do not intend to trick or mislead anyone. We have a very limited number of spots in the private beta (due to the way Apple allows developers to run betas). We wanted to give people who were most excited to try the app a way to get in faster.

Would be happy to chat offline if you have other concerns. How do they evaluate deals, what has shaped that view, what qualities excite them most, how do they like to be pitched, what information do they most often feel is lacking in the pitches they hear. Really teasing out what drives their descison making more.

Re: KickPost Predicts Popular Posts for Top Tech News

Been working on it a while :)

Re: KickPost Predicts Popular Posts for Top Tech News

Louis strikes again! Just for context, Louis discovered my first project Toluu, 2 years ago, by noticing referral traffic of me testing it from his server logs. Louis knows how to find a story :)

Thanks for sharing with your readers. KickPost is super super beta, but I decided it was time to get more than a handful of people banging on it and providing feedback.

We are still tweaking the algorithm, and will continue to do so. The bulk of the site is actually hidden behind the scenes, where there is an uber dashboard that is used to create new training sets and run simulations on the stories that would be presented with a particular new algorithm: more weighting for comments or Bit.ly clicks for instance. We are also working to normalize the sources posting rate so that bloggers who don't post as voraciously as TechCrunch and Engadget can still make onto KickPost.

Would love any other feedback!

Re: This Week in VC with Rick Smith of Crosscut Ventures

Really like the new format, keep it up.

Re: The Suboptimal Large Series A

Solid advice. It seems many people try to optimize for the current round, when they should be optimizing for long term success of the company. If you block out the potential for a solid up B round you are really screwing yourself, esp if your company isn't taking off like a rocket.

Re: It’s not that seed investors are smarter – it’s that entrepreneurs are

The ironic thing about the so called "seed fund bubble" is that less capital is actually being put to work then might normally be dispensed if the same companies were going for VC.

This is almost certainly good. As you mention, many of the best companies also have the opportunity for traditional VC, which means they weighed their options and chose a path of putting off VC for a while until they can get even better terms, or exit before needing many millions.

It's hard to argue credibly that there is a bubble when less capital is flowing into a system and at lower valuations.

Re: Heyzap raises $3M round for social game platform expansion

Congrats!

Re: Builders and extractors

The other great thing about partnering with builder angels and investors is they also tend to understand you need to create value for your customers before you try to extract it away from them as well. There's a reason Paul Graham's saying is "Build something people want" and not "Build something you can get people to pay you for". The first leads to the second, but the reverse is not always true.

Re: Here’s the New Digg [SCREENSHOTS]

Quick note: Daniel Burka now works at Tiny Spec which is the company behind the forthcoming game http://glitch.com/

Re: Ping!
