in It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future on mikepk
Hi Mike. Very kind of you to mention me. I still think Grazr is a terrific piece of work, even without the soon to be dropped extra facilities. I wish you well and, if I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I'll buy you a meal. Of course, if you ever come to London (UK), be sure to let me know you're coming.

in California to set up a $1B electric car network on VentureBeat
What fuel will be used to satisfy the increased demand for electricity?

This network will be in PG&E's territory. That means natural gas is the biggest source, followed by nuclear, hydroelectric and then other renewables. Not much coal in the mix.
Of course, the actual electricity the charging network uses could be weighted more heavily toward one source or another, if they want to put the planning work into it to do so (plus some extra money).

At the beginning there will be no increased supply necessary, as the MW of electricity wasted at night will be used.
Then as less oil is refined, the masive amounts of electricity (and clean water) needed for this will be reduced, increasing supply for evs. By that time, especially because of the focus on generation, there will be more renewables online along will improvements of the grid.
Renewa bles will continue to develop faster that evs replace gas guzzlers.
