I didn't realise things were that bad. Your certainly not alone as many families are losing their homes here in the UK too.

I hope and pray you get through these difficult days.

in Bush and Putin on faboo mama
It is difficult for Bush to adopt a moral stance. After all he invaded a sovereign nation and forced regime change himself. Putin can argue that he too, like Bush, is merely defending Russian citizens and using force in order to do so.

I also found the comments of our British foreign secretary hypocritical. He accused Russia of 19th Century behavior by forcibly taking land. However Britain's continued occupation of The Falkland Islands and Gibralter is as about 19th century as you can get.

Russia has been an out of control thug for some time. Recent events are pretty much what one would expect from them.

The West however has lost much of the moral high ground which I find the saddest thing of all. There don't seem to be any good guys around anymore.

in Dear YouTube friends, can I have my account back? on Loic Le Meur
Uploading videos to a single website has always worried me. what if the said site goes down or some other problem prevents access?

My suggestion is to select two or more video sites and do multiple uploads. That way you at least have an alternative source where your videos can be found.

in (un) Police State of Social Media on PurpleCar
There is a similar problem with schools in the UK where the Local Education Authority (LEA) is responsible for the provision of education. If they expel unruly pupils they have a legal responsibility to provide an, expensive, alternative education for the expelled pupil. If they don't there's no shortage of solicitors (Lawyers) who are willing to assist the parents in suing the LEA.

Local authorities would rather let a school rot and avoid paying for the cost of expelling pupils. You've, quite rightly, identified the long-term consequences of this. The authorities only work in 12 month budget cycles. So they don't see nor care about the long term effects.

I'm not sure what the solution is other than to raise awareness of this problem.

Regarding idiots on social media sites; a site becomes increasingly difficult to moderate and control as user numbers increase. It is a balancing act between making a site accessible with easier registration for new users and enforcing the TOS.

My suggestion is once the community has grown beyond a certain size then introduce a membership policy which requires a token credit card purchase of say $1. This will provide a form of verification so that legal action can be taken against an individual should the need arise. At the moment it is all too easy to setup a Twitter account using false information.

in If you had to choose between Twitter and your blog what would you choose? on Loic Le Meur
I don't think its fair to compare the two because they serve different purposes. In my view they complement each other. Twitters restriction in the number of characters force you to condense everything and remain articulate. It's a skill that is worth developing.
You can use your blog to expand on a subject referred to in a short Twitter post.

in Continuing the Windows vs Linux debate on A little place of calm
This is a tad unfair. You can quite easily spend hours troubleshooting Linux because it's gotten upset with a device driver. If Linux was as widely deployed as Windows I'm sure we would find more issues with it. The fact that technical people tend to install Linux and it is associated with a sort of 'culture' probably contributes to the view that it is more stable than Windows.

I have Ubuntu installed on a VMWare server but would never replace my Vista Ultimate operating system.

in Dembot - Twitter is Dead, Weep! on Dembot
Where's the public timeline feature in Tumblr? A key feature of Twitter which makes it unique is the ability to take a peek at what people all over the world are doing at a given moment in time. This is what makes Twitter special. I don't see Tumblr competing in the same arena. They are two very different things.
