I posted this earlier but got no response. Maybe you can answer it down here:
How come we can't enable the baseband update on iPhone 3G's within PwnageTool? It's always grayed out and unchecked (presumably not applied).
Some of us use official carriers and would like the modem updates while still enjoying the other features of PwnageTool (jailbreak, root partition resize, etc). Not everyone wants to keep the stock baseband in the hopes of future unlocks.

I always restore using the stock firmware, and then have to go back and re-pwn again. This way i ensure I get the baseband updates (since I don't care about unlocks).
My 2.0.2 baseband is 2.08.01 and its a pretty big jump from the previous (1.48.05 I think). The major update in the baseband is what prompted me to finally come here and ask why PwnageTool *always* disables it on iPhone 3G's (iPhone 2G's can unselect or select that box at will).
Hopefully the devteam will read this, but somehow I doubt it being this far down :(

thanks for mentioning your baseband version. Mine is still on the old version then.
I might as well goto stock now, since pwnage erased all my jailbroken apps anyway. Does anyone know how to upgrade without losing all your jailbreak apps?
Or....if you have pwn'd before, are you able to just upgrade via itunes with custom firmware and not even have to bother with new pwnage versions? the reason I ask is because I pwn'd my friends 3g with 2.0.1 and if I want to upgrade her phone can I just send her the new modded firmware build (that I can build for her) and she can just do it in iTunes?

The thinking is, it's better to require legit 3G owners to explicitly go through an additional step (update using official Apple IPSW before using PwnageTool) than to have newbies shoot themselves in foot by updating their baseband past the known vulnerabilities.
But maybe there should be a "backdoor" in PwnageTool, or some other way of saying "I accept the risk" for 3G custom IPSWs (?)
