I may be good enough at Photoshop to raise ethical concerns, but I'm not going to fire up a bloated app just to crop and/or resize a photo. Thanks for sharing.

Very true Elliott. I use Paint.net on my work PC but even it takes too long to load up and I can just go to Picnik and do much more editing in far less time

The internet looks, smells, and feels different, but we use it for the same purposes we did 15 years ago. With expanded functionality, it has been a joy to watch the evolution of it.

in What I Learned From A Little Extra Mustard And A Ton Of Traffic on Building Camelot
@Trey: LOL! Just put the word "porn" anywhere on a site and it's a spam magnet.
I should've started a technology blog instead. The dad blog niche is fun though. You don't make much ad revenue, but you end up meeting lots of great people.
My wife and I run 3 sites, and Text Link Ads has the best performance/effort ratio. We set and forget it early on and it outperforms AdSense every month. Imagine what we could do if we really worked it.

@Tyler: Great timing on the release of this series. My daughter's first birthday is next week.
Having to write my story and reading the stories by Chris and Jeff bring back so many memories.
@Chris: Great idea to cook ahead of time. It's a great practice to carry forward too.
@Jeff: Bringing the first head cap home for the pets to sniff is brilliant. My daughter terrorizes the one cat. The other is smart enough to run away.

This is where the absolutely hilarious and the pragmatic meet! I'll have to remember this for when my little one is older. 2 weeks from her 1st birthday, and she's still vegetarian. No happy meals yet.
Since my stepson is 14, I can raid the stash of grandparent-bestowed toys. He usually gets a couple video games or contribution toward a new console. At least I know the Wii, the 360, and Guitar Hero III are available for dad.

in How Becoming A Father Will Make You A Better Man on Building Camelot
It's such a profound feeling, that everything else seems to pale in comparison. Maybe you will understand true love without children, but you will definitely understand it when you have children.
I tell my daughter that she is my "truest of true loves."
I don't miss single life or even the childless couple lifestyle. Being a dad is the best.

in Why Can’t I Relax? on Daddy's Toolbox
Wow! Wasn't expecting that after I hit "Continue Reading." It hit me like a ton of bricks, but it didn't bring me down. I admire the strength it takes to publicly express yourself and your feelings like that.
Sometimes I stress out. Sometimes I can let it go. Kids are pretty durable. My daughter is nearing her first birthday, so learning to walk is high on her list. I used to cringe when I saw her come crashing down on the hardwood floor, knees first. I know if my knees met the floor like that, I'd be in pretty bad shape. But she's OK. She gets right back up and tries again.

Thanks! Yes, it felt good to publicly share my story of my sister.
As for kids, I do agree that they are durable, especially when they are
young -- like 1-3 yrs old. My daughter who will be two in August loves
to jump up and down. One time she
ANd speaking of durable, last weekend I was out running errands and my
little girl was trying to pet our cat on the kitchen chair. It's wooded,
the back has rungs, and her little hand and arm got stuck and she pulled
the chair down on top of her. It smacked her on the forehead and ended
up landing on her neck. My wife freaked because she started to choke.
I would have done the same. But you know what?? My daughter NEVER got a
bruise that lasted more than a few hours! No bump. No nothing. Can you
say, "Brickhouse! She's mighty mighty!!"

in How To Paint The Perfect Princess Room: Just The Beginning on Building Camelot
Someone has you wrapped around her finger!
Painting is the quickest way to make the biggest impact on a room. I love the idea you had about using the same color in two different sheens. I did that for my daughter's nursery too.
The first time I painted a room, I used the roller first, then did the trim. I had a lovely band around the top of the room. Next time, and every time thereafter, I didn't wait for the paint to dry when switching from roller to trim brush. I was up and down a lot, but there was no visible band.

in If Only Everything Came In “Princess” on Building Camelot
My wife and elected not to get our daughter's ears pierced. At 9 months, she's still somewhat androgynous, so she's got princess everything. We still get an occasional color-blind person ask awkwardly about the baby.
BTW, we want her to ask for the earrings and make it something of a rite of passage for her. It may hurt more, but she's a tough customer and only getting tougher. She'll be OK.

in Celebrate Diversity & Unity With Regionz Kidz! | Mommy Daddy Blog on Mommy Daddy Blog
My parents moved the family to South Florida when I was 6. We left behind a strong Korean community in Baltimore and found very few Asian people in general.
Being the different looking kid, I was naturally a target. Being Asian, I was also expected to be a straight-A student, computer whiz, violin or piano virtuoso, and general goody-two-shoes. I was none of those things. :)
Now that I have a daughter who is an Asian-Caucasian mix, diversity takes a priority spot on our curriculum!

in 31st Week Update… Daddy Style! | Mommy Daddy Blog on Mommy Daddy Blog
This is such a wondrous time. I love having the baby around, but there are things about pregnancy that I look back upon fondly.
I first learned what unconditional love is. I've never met this person, I have no idea what she looks like, and have no clue what her personality is like. Yet, I already knew I loved this little person.
My wife had the cravings too, but not nearly as frequent and on clockwork. She's always been a moderate eater, and didn't change much during pregnancy. The only difference is now, she'll share the Southwest Eggrolls from Chili's instead of hogging all of them.

in Babywearing and Carriers | Mommy Daddy Blog on Mommy Daddy Blog
My wife tried a variety of carriers, slings, and wraps.
The most helpful thing we did was go to a babywearing meeting. I think she found it through meetup.com. At the babywearin meeting, you have the opportunity to try on the different styles of carriers.
Every woman's body is different, so you have to try these things on. The other criteria we had was that the carrier could also be something I could wear!
As for our own personal choices, we like the Ergo Baby the best for all-around babywearing. YMMV
