I'm wondering if you discovered this at the Maker Faire? I saw it there this year and it was definitely one of my favorites, and that's saying something. It is really a breath-taking reminder that magnetism is crazy-effing-magic. Magic, I tell you.

Honestly I would enjoy this review a little better if the list wasn't so long. I don't want to know every diet site in the world, just the three or four best in each category. If I wanted fifty I'd do a google search. Just some constructive criticism. Love the site!

I am not a fan of twitter but I am addicted to Blip.fm. It already has more users than you need to have constantly streaming music from DJs you like. The site is designed to encourage you to subscribe to more DJs. The first time you sign up, it finds 30 DJs that share your taste and every song you blip gives you the opportunity to add more. You can repost any song to a long list of sites. For example, without going to myspace.com I can post a song (using Blip) to either my homepage or a blog. Because messaging is required, you get to know the DJs more than you would for any other streaming music site. The users tend to come from a wide variety of countries, and that adds to the diversity of music you can discover. For those looking who love building a web presence, the microblog builds up subscribers fast. They've only launched a few months ago and I have close to 3,000 listeners---none of whom I know personally.

Nice to see someone else is obsessed with Blip too. If you look at their feedback page, an add-on is on their list of things-to-do. But in this tragic world, the iPhone support comes first. Sigh.

Thanks so much! This is perfect. I have currently 69,000 comments, virutally all of them lovely people that want to share their favorite prescription drugs with me. I think mashable is often the most useful blog on the www.

Still think the best site for music discovery is Blip.fm. Best music site all around too. But then it is my personal addiction.

I wish the writers on this site were more conscious of the fact that not everyone uses iTunes. That aside, I like www.sonicliving.com for concert notification. Very well designed with embeddable calendars. And yes, you can feed it your iTunes library. Or Pandora or LastFM for that matter.

Agreed. I saw the Flaming Lips in the late 90s and was entranced. They're known for their live shows.

Probably you didn't notice because in the last fifteen years the resource we use to rely on to discover good music (the radio) has spiraled into payola and suckage. I frequently encounter music lovers who only listen to classics because they are convinced "they just don't make good music anymore." It's painful. There's so much fantastic music out there, not just in the rock genre but in every genre. I could go on about it all day (in fact, I usually do, see the website link).

What's funny about the problem of posting mp3 links is that I generally tweet them on Blip.fm, which streams them live rather than downloading them. I only download when I have to because a direct link is not available.
Too bad you've been having trouble with that as I used to count on you having direct links. Oh well. Everything you post is still pretty much amazing. =D

I work in publishing; this is true. You sell more books with a straight-forward title that comes up in more searches than a vague but clever title that folks may not figure out at a glance.
