Hi Tim,
I know that you're coming to an event in SF on October 25th but was wondering how long you'd be in SF altogether. Planning on staying for a few days and meeting up with people?

Personally I firmly believe that the owner of the blog has the right to write whatever he wants. However I also believe that authority blogs specific to a niche such as Engadget and TechCrunch, should stick mainly to posting on subjects that they are covering in their niche since it is a professional blog designed to be a business. There is a difference between a blog making money and a blog that is meant to be a business.
Sure John Chow and John Cow both make money through blogging, but that doesn't mean that their blog aren't personal blogs as well. People who view it as a straight business blog will come to realize that they are the one ranting and complaining pointlessly to thin air. The reality is that at the end of the day, bloggers can blog about what they want and since it is a personal blog, all the more reason to emphasize there is no limitation to their topics.
Sure Chow attracts lots of users through his money posts and recaps on his income, but from beginning to end, his blog covered other subjects as well. Readers who've come to love his blog should accept it for what it is. It is a lot like trying to tell someone you like certain things about them but bitch at them if you don't like other aspects of their personality. If you can't accept them for who they are, don't bother being their friend. If you're a true friend, you'll stop your whining. Similarly, if you don't want to read their blogs, you don't have to. No one tells you how to run your life, your business, or anything else you do, why do people expect bloggers to act any different?!

Correct me if I am wrong but what would you need to order business cards for if you are selling your blog (or did I miss the whole linkbait era of that).

in How Much Is Our Blog Worth? on John Cow dot COM
I disagree with #2 greatly base on the estimated average of $144k to get the same number of uniques. Depending on how well you manage your QS, it can be drastically less. You can also use other PPC such as Yahoo, MSN, as well as several other lower tier PPC engines to get the same number of targeted traffic if you were going the paid route and still spend less.

They need more shows. It's a nice idea but there simply isn't enough shows on there. The ones they have, they're lacking episodes.

Contact your credit card company and do a charge back. If you PayPal him the money, contact PayPal first and if that doesn't work, proceed with the chargeback. You obviously didn't get what you paid for.

in How Much Is Your Blog Really Worth? on John Cow dot COM
Hey Bob,
Wouldn't it have been better to sell your blog for 30k and reinvest that money while creating another blog. True that this blog's rise to fame was part effort and part luck but couldn't you have tried to replicate this process and recreate another successful blog taking what you've learned through this experience.
Come to think of it, a counter offer for more than 30k would be better but selling isn't necessarily a bad thing. Although I commend you for not selling as you can develop it further.
