in The value of content and Twitter on Chris' Tech Blog
i think 2 other major things are needed:
-a filtration/grouping mechanism (e.g. TweetDeck -or- Seesmic Desktop)
-way to link @replies to one-another
While the 140 character limit comes from the SMS origns of the service and can be hindering, I've come to an appreciate of the mandatory brevity the format imposes.

Chris, good points. I think the character limit is both a blessing and a curse in that it encourages brevity - which can be good in an educated dialogue, but a hindrance when the subject matter is complex and needs more room to "grow".

in Introduce Yourself on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
I blog, have blogged, and actively participated in social media for years, but always approached it as something primarily just to inform and entertain myself. It's in that context that I present to you a 'best post' lacking any of the characteristic sensible 'best post' qualities, and candidly going for the cheap yuks. I figure it's like my dad used to say, "you can't take life to seriously, you'll never get out of it alive."

By the sounds of it, your dad was a pretty wise kind of guy and I'd follow his advice anytime. :)
Thanks for stopping off and letting us get to know you that little bit better.
