in Conservatives plan stimulus ‘tea party’ protest at state capitol on The Colorado Independent
Lest we forget:
Sadly, noone mentions the TRILLIONS of dollars in debt that our great-great-grandchildren will be paying on because of the ill-begotten-war in Iraq. This war was begun on "evidence" that was later proven to be false. The GOP Bush/Cheney administration was on watch while our country ran up debt we can never pay off, trashed our country, and killed our young men and women in a needless war. Clinton left office with a surplus after cleaning up after the previous 12 years of Republicans.
The Grand Old Party of my ancestors, who pioneered with the Lincolns and Boones, isn't so grand anymore. It's on it's last gasp. No amount of tea in Boston Harbor...er...Sloan's Lake...can save it now.

in North Dakota House passes ‘egg as a person’ bill on The Colorado Independent
Rep. Ruby must not be too aware or else he's very contemptuous of women if he doesn't understand the implications of this bill, which would be women losing their lives with ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages, etc. This bill takes women's health care back to the 1800's when women eventually died in childbirth after giving birth to numerous children. That's what it's like with no contraception. Look at old family histories, that's what you'll see.
People who are quote unquote pro family are often men who need to impregante their wives many times to feel like a real man. But in reality there's nothing pro family about it.

in Bennet, Udall part of group weighing cuts to Senate stimulus package on The Colorado Independent
Well, I much respect your opinion, Ernest.
Paul Krugman was certainly right in 2005 re Greenspan and the mortgage market. It's too bad nobody listened to him.
I think people are so disgusted with teh billions given out to AIG, the banks, etc. just before Bush left office (re the squandering and corruption by the very people who got us into this housing mess), that it has left people skeptical. And with a desire to scrutinize the rest of the funding. Fanny Mae and Wells Faro are sponsoring the big bank pow-wow party in Vegas. As Sen. McCaskill, Mo. implied, why didn't they go to Omaha or K.C. (?) I guess it's party time..on our taxes. And Buick had the money to sponsor the golf tournament in San Diego last week...
I've read many reports about people who did not miss house payments who got burned on adjustable rates, etc. and were refused help on loans, are those who missed payments (many of whom were likely not qualified in the first place) the only people who get help? And of course millions got burned in devalued real estate, not to mention stock and retirement losses the past few years.I'm not at all sure this mess can be fixed now with any amount of money. As Kerry said in '04, "the country can't afford four more years of Bush".
WHEN is somebody going to be held accountable? Can they just loot and destroy a whole country in 8 years while the people in charge were fiddling while Rome burned? Is there no retribution or prison sentence for those responsible?
Obama should repeatedly put out the news that his predecessors got us into this mess.
But I still think the movie people should get their money by cutting a few million off the stars' and directors' salaries!!

Without compromise there will be nothing...nada. Half a loaf is better than none,
We vote every two years for more school funding, it's bleeding us dry, with little if any result. First of all they have to throw out Bush's no child left behind and quit teaching to rote tests and teach to educate.
What good is anything if Mom and Dad don't have employment to put food on the table and a roof over the children's head? We have a dire economy. That has to be addressed.
Yes, there is pork in this, last week I read about something for the movie industry. And what good is the energy rehab if the company admits it can't handle all that work at once...etc, etc, etc.

The lesson to be learned here is for parents not to leave their young children alone with ANYBODY in a position of trust, not even a priest or minister or the neighbor boy next door. Leave them only with people you have known and trusted for years, such as Grandma, an aunt ,a longtime female friend, people you would trust your own life with.

Increase registration fees a bit if they must...even charge a little more tax on gas but NO WAY am I going to be "tracked" in my car.... I agree with Sen. Hayden 100%.
And I hate paying tolls when I know my taxes built the roads. When I go east or southeast I HATE having to pay a toll for the interstate between Topeka and K.C. for instance.
But I must say the roads in Kansas are in great shape compared to ours as are the roads in Tex. and just about everywhere I've been east, south, west....except Mo.
One thing I might mention is that the big trucks are much harder on the roads than our cars.
What I wish President Obama would do is have a massive road, bridges -building program in our country similar to the Depression in the 30's to give Americans work who need it and bring our crumbling infrastructure up to safe standards.
And keep the gas costs down so I can afford to hit the road this summer, it was too costly last summer!
As Willie says "I can't wait to get on the road again!"

Changing the law last year for the liquor stores of course caused this problem.
I foresee more Mom and Pops going out of business because the big chain stores will be able to have the lowest prices, just like the Mom and Pops went out of business with the nonsmoking laws in bars.
I just hope the boozers all stay the hell out of their cars after they get their booze fix.
With the economy being the way it is, I wish Viega and McFadden could find more helpful issues to work on than whether people get their booze.
I realize I'm not too objective because I've known and helped people who have had their lives destroyed by the alcoholism of others.

in Abortion foes mix vitriol with righteous ‘3/5ths of personhood’ abolitionism on The Colorado Independent
Why doesn't the "truth truck" put pictures on it of all the BORN children who were abused and neglected until they finally died, because of parents who never should have had children and were unable to care for them because of substance abuse, mental illness, etc. Maybe start with the picture of the precious little boy who was starved and kept in a closet litered with feces until he died, right here in Denver. And put a picture of the remains of the little girl in Florida who was recently murdered. Their truck could be covered many times over with pictures of the BORN who suffered and lived a life of hell and died.
If these people would just be reasonable, they could understand that Obama is trying to do something to stem the tide of abortion. He is trying to make contraceptive information available to women who so badly need it.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if these " pro-life" people really were pro-life for little BORN children.

Wildflower is absolutely right--there are worse things than NOT being born!
Studies show that unwanted children are often neglected or abused. Many of them end up in prison. I always liked the bumper sticker that said--"A World of Wanted Children Would Make a World of Difference."

in Bush frees two imprisoned border agents championed by Tancredo on The Colorado Independent
This might be the only decent thing Bush did.
What's unjustified about shooting a creep who was smuggling drugs into our country?
And when he was caught again he received a lesser sentence than the border cops.
I used to help run an online support group, finding resources, etc. for grandparents raising grandchildren all across the country and a few other countries as well. The primary reason these people were raising their grandchildren was because of the substance abuse of their grown children, MOSTLY DRUGS, occasionally alcoholism or mental illness.
If Ramos and Compean kept just one load of drugs from hitting the streets and further destroying people's lives, it is a good deed.

in House passes wage discrimination bills on The Colorado Independent
I first noticed this wage gap when I was about 12 years old. My younger brothers had a job of taking the wastebaskets out to the trash bin and emptying them. They earned a nickel a day each for 5 minutes of work. I, being the eldest daughter, had the opportunity to make more money than my brothers because I got to wash the supper dishes (no dishwashers in those days) for a nickel and dry them for another nickel.
I could make 10 cents per day, twice as much as my brothers.
But they were paid 6 times as much as me because they were males!

Terrifiic job Wendy!
In some areas of the country people could actually buy TWO newer 3 bdrm. homes for that amount.
It is sickening to say the least. I could see up to $20,000 to remove the asbestos, put in new pipes, etc.
Should we thank them for coming in $26,000 under estimate?
Well, I hope Ken can find some use for the towels. I guess they will have a "K" on them then?

My pleasure. Thanks for the good question. It took a little digging but I found it.
And yep, I bought my first and only home -- a nice little 1920s 3-bdrm bungalow in 1997 back in Ohio. The value of which was much less than half the cost of Kempthorne's swanky office bathroom. That hurts.

There is quite a discrepancy between the renovation report in the Washington Post and the comments of Friend.
Could this renovation have been done since July?
But why would an outgoing Sec. of Interior go to all this trouble?
Or was he planning to remain since the GOP was expected to win again?
Does the Washington Post have the date of this renovation?
Anyway, if true, perhaps Ken could use the monogrammed towels to wipe his boots on.

Medical personnel can have all the freedom they want as long as the boss knows (because he is the one who may get sued), and they visibly post or wear a name tag with the information so a woman will be able to choose a different doctor or get her prescription elsewhere. Women should have a choice too, you know, it's THEIR body.
Maybe you would rather have a sign on the wall in the pharmacy: "No birth control or morning after pill here.If you were brutally raped last night and you get pregnant, that is God's will. And if pregancy is God' will that means it was also 'God's will that you be brutally raped, you must have deserved it. So take your sorry bruised and swollen face out of here

"Your boss doesn't know".."The patient doesn't know. The hospital doesn't know" "No one knows"..
And therein lies the problem, the patient might not get proper treatment or pharmaceuticals and could die. The boss and the hospital, the taxpayers, could, and should, get sued for malpractice.
If this edict doesn't get thrown out with the 60-day rule, the dissenting professionals should have to post very visibly in their office or pharmacy or, preferably, on a tag on their shirt that they do not give women reproductive options or dispense birth control pills. If it's not posted they should be sued.

Those who back as much spending as possible in the stimulus bill argue that only federal spending can make up an anticipated $2 trillion shortfall in consumer and business spending over the next two years. The argument is to spread the spending throughout the economy -- providing money to hire construction workers and, yes, workers involved with movie production and dozens of other areas labeled "pork" by opponents.
