I love how soft and glow-y it is!

I had to laugh at the name of your blog. I have Irish twins, too, mine are 11 months apart (13 mos. and 24 mos). Everyone thought we were crazy, but I love that they are so close! I'm tired, but I love it! lol

I went to one and it worked out great. There's many more choices on what you can eat and those with special dietary restrictions can make sure they bring something they are able to eat.

in Ask The White Guy on Jack and Jill Politics
John,

You and "The White Guy" from this publication make me so happy with your existence.

I have hope. Not everyone can understand the touchy subject of race, and sometimes I get caught in it-- but some of you get it, and your words help me solidify my understanding of our society and our beautiful multicultural, multiethnic part in it.

Thank you.

in Tim Wise Stirring the Pot on Jack and Jill Politics
Anonymous at 10:04,

Senator Clinton did not have a legitimate claim to the experience her campaign pushed.

Senator Obama is older than Pres. Clinton was when we elected him, and served in the state legislature for over a decade while teaching constitutional law at U Chicago. She has four years on him in the Senate-- a drop in the bucket compared to McCain's 26 years in his seat.

The inherent contradiction here is that Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton have virtually the same amount of political experience. If someone is voting solely on the number of years the candidate has held office, they shouldn't be switching from Clinton-- they should have been supporting McCain from the start.

Hence, the argument that Obama is not experienced enough is flawed when coming from former Clinton partisans and belies their true feelings.

in Thursday Open Thread: I Just Remembered Something About Hillary on Jack and Jill Politics
This isn't political or even current, but I would love to share this old photograph with all of you. :)

Also, d, I expect Obama will be received well by the military in Iraq. Look at this video from Charlie Rose, where a reporter talks about Obama's support and two parents of soldiers talk about the admiration and respect for him in the military.

Obama has had the second-highest total funds donated by service-members (after Ron Paul), and I think he commands a lot of respect.

in WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS? on Jack and Jill Politics
I should clarify what I wrote about the "Limbaugh effect".

That's over 9% of her votes in the primary that wouldn't choose her in the general.

What I should have said was that over 9% of total voters picked her in the primary without intending to vote for her in the general. Of Clinton voters, that's nearly 14% [9/.66].

I regret the lack of clarity.

in WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS? on Jack and Jill Politics
Anonymous and D,

We've been over this before-- you are mistaken about what racism is. It is not racist for black people to vote Obama, just as it's not racist for white people to vote Clinton. Black voters identify with Obama and his unusual experiences as a black man in America, and he has reached out to them continually. Most black voters supporting Obama would likely have voted for Clinton as well, but with less enthusiasm as she doesn't share their life experiences and hasn't courted them in the same way. Obama gives an inner-city group his civil rights policy proposals; he has death-penalty reform and voters' rights on his record. He's their candidate in every way.

The racism comes in when people, including some (certainly not all) Clinton supporters, refuse to vote for Obama based on his race. Go look at the KY exit polls.

On the bottom of the very first page:

In a Clinton/McCain matchup for the general, 17% would vote McCain. Of those 17%, 53% voted for Clinton. That's over 9% of her votes in the primary that wouldn't choose her in the general.

On page 4: Was race of candidate important to you? 21% admit, yes. Of those, 81% voted for Clinton.

So I'm not saying that all voters in Kentucky are racist. Kentucky is a pretty nice place and I've never met a mean person from there.

But 17% of voters in the exit poll sample voted for Clinton at least partly because she is not black.

in McCain Misrepresents Obama AGAIN on Iran on Jack and Jill Politics
To follow up to tvanel on James Baker (who was also Chief of Staff under Reagan), here's the video.

From the description: "In May of 2006, John McCain said former Sec'y of State James Baker was one of the "smartest" men he knew and that he was likely to ask Baker to serve as a diplomatic envoy to the Middle East. Speaking to an Israeli newspaper, McCain added "I know you in Israel don't like Baker." "

This is going to be a good election year.

in Rev. Michael Pfleger Holds It Down In Fox Interview On Wright, Farrakhan and "Hate" on Jack and Jill Politics
That reporter was none other than the producer of the O'Reilly Factor, trying to get a soundbite for their story on whether the Catholic church should reprimand Father Pfleger for his defense of Reverend Wright(!). He was obviously not prepared for Father Pfleger to be so much more intelligent and informed and reasoned than himself.

Thank you Father!

Yep, ahhh . . . the ones with the "fringe" look more like hooker and less like wedding, and all of those heels are at least 2 and a half inches high. You, boat, really high heels it could get dangerous. But I have to say, I like the modernish mary janes with the fatter heel.

This is very sweet. He's inspiring to those of us with young friends or family with Down's Syndrome.

I like that he identifies with the black community as positive, possibly in part because discrimination against people with serious disabilities is also very common. Surely he can relate to Dr. King's dreams for America.
