What it seems to me to come down to is that everything--including Jesus--must bow to homosexuality.
People have written to me, "Jesus would never ask me to give that up." Or, "Jesus would never want me to deny this part of myself." The tragedy is that when they say the name Jesus they have no clue Who they're talking about. Jesus most certainly asks people to give up things which are dear to them and deny themselves in order to follow him. And that's not at all exclusive to people who struggle with same-sex attraction.

Re: Azusa Pacific University Panel Report

Randy, I have seen examples of pro-gay theology similar to Ms. Jakobson's. Who am I to look down on them?
This is the first I heard of the license plate thing, and my initial reaction makes me want to oppose it. It does seem like a "scarlet letter" type of thing that would only invite incidents of "vigilante justice." It seems like a punitive measure.
What else are they trying to accomplish? Keep children safe from someone who's dangerous? If an individual poses such a direct threat to children that he needs to be marked this way, then what is he doing walking free?
It was my understanding that we let people out of prison because they had paid out their debt to society and they were no longer a threat. Maybe that's flawed. Maybe it only has to be one (and not necessarily both) of those things. The description of this class goes a long way in articulating how consuming a "gay" identity is.

There are so many ways homosexuality--when it's embraced that way--permeates a person's life (and is expected to). One of the things that disillusioned me personally concerning the gay community was all the ideals (political, relational and religious) I was expected to conform to.

People often don't understand family and friends' dismay when a loved one "comes out." The description of this class goes a long way in articulating how consuming a "gay" identity is.
There are so many ways homosexuality--when it's embraced that way--permeates a person's life (and is expected to). He doesn't need to necessarily not believe in Scriptural promises. Shame comes from secrets we feel forced to keep because they are unsafe to share. A struggle with same-sex attraction could certainly fall into that category for someone who runs in Conservative Christian circles--more so for someone in ministry--even more so for someone in very public ministry.

This, I believe, is part of a wake-up call to the Body of Christ. We need to be living in radical transparency with one another, so that these struggles do not fester over the years, growing stronger until they overcome us.

"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. Children don't have the right to marry, and people who are already married don't have the right to marry again should their eye wander (unless they dissolve their current marriage--which frankly, our legal system makes far too easy).

If we take your logic to its ultimate conclusion--that marriage ought to be directed by personal proclivities--then polygamy will be the result. That our the abolition of marriage altogether. Lifelong, monogamous heterosexual marriage isn't a gay person's automatic orientation--but it isn't anyone else's, either.

Re: Google “Officially” Against California’s Prop 8

Well, you referred to marriage as a "human right," which I assumed meant all people. Children are people, not property. But I will concede on the binding consent argument in that case.

Gay adults can give consent, but again, following your logic to its ultimate end, so can polygamists, "swingers", etc. Marriage must have definite boundaries, or it doesn't exist.

And yes, I believe every person (including me) needs God to help them know and do what is right. True, interracial marriages were once frowned upon, and women have been regarded as "less than" men in pretty much all cultures to some degree. But these were more transcendent issues of prejudice that, while they affected marriage deeply, did not change what it is at its root.

The justification for gay marriage is that we ought to be allowed to marry according to our personal desires, regardless of sex, and if that offends others' standards of morality or propriety, so what?

But then if the gay community may challenge (and repeal) those standards which exclude the desires they find most natural, how can they impose their own set of standards upon others with different desires?

Re: Conservative Prude & Mr. 900

I know a few characters from my gym who resemble Mr. 900. But even if it was different, how could someone of another sexual persuasion not make the same argument? How could you say your definition of love justifies changing marriage and theirs doesn't? It would be hypocritical of you.

And yes, I believe gay marriage is wrong all on its own, whether it leads to those other things or not. We could argue on and on about the why's but I'm sure you we can each keep thinking up answers for each other. The bottom line is, the standard is set by Scripture--not me. The last couple of days I have really been thinking about how I need to check my emotions about some of this stuff. Not that I have been freaking out--but some of the anxiety, frustration and anger has potential to go overboard.

It's sad because the media is playing into those things on both sides, trying to find the most offensive extremes and make them news.

You're right; it's so tiring and yet so important. It's nice that we can trust in God and know that one day, even the government will belong to Jesus.

Re: Letter From A Christian in 2012 - Focus Action Letter

Honestly, I think this letter depicts pretty accurately where the ideology of the Left will take this country. However, I think they will have to do it incrimentally and that most of it probably couldn't happen in the span of an Obama presidency. But I could be wrong.

In that case, though, God will use the hardships of the Body of Christ (as He always has) to show who the true Believers are. It's sad to see how many are falling away from truth simply because they will not stand to be held in contempt by the court of Public Opinion. That's not even real persecution.

Re: If I Had A Nickel …

Get better, Randy!

Re: The Morning After The Election - Initial Thoughts

I agree that we shouldn't question people's patriotism simply because they oppose a president and/or his policies.
