in Dan Tyminski Band at the Birchmere Theater on Random Musings
Hey, Hadar! Dave and I are BIG bluegrass fans and are planning on attending the 5th annual Menokin Bluegrass Festival on May 10 to see Tony Rice, world's most amazing bluegrass guitar player. It's in Va's Northern Neck and tickets are available at the gate starting at 2. Concert goes from 3-7 with lawn chair/blanket seating, with food, beer and crafts available. Also featured are the Barrel House Mamas, Gold Heart, and Blades of Bluegrass (don't know any of these folks). We'd love to have some company, if you all are down this way! Tony Rice has been around a long time and has added some jazz elements to bluegrass, playing with some of the best, including Bela Fleck. He used to sing, too, but has some weird voice thingy going on that keeps him from contributing with his lovely baritone. He can still play the heck out of a guitar, however, and I can't wait to see him again! Let us know if you're interested! Wish I could have joined you all for Dan Tyyminski--I LOVE his voice! Kim

hadar Wow, we would have loved to go. Unfortunately (or, to tell the truth, fortunately!), Laura is graduating that weekend, so we're booked solid both Saturday and Sunday. Keep us in mind for future events. We both really love Bluegrass. Before Dan, we recently saw Rhonda Vincent in NYC, and she was great too! Hope to see y'all soon!

in Frozen Shoulder on Random Musings
Hi, Hadar. I had a frozen shoulder a few years ago. The doc said it could have been from a hairline fracture I sustained while skiing that had already healed. I couldn't move my arm well over my head or from front to rear--an action frequently required here in Richmond when paying TOLLS! I also couldn't sleep on that side at night. He told me he could do micro-surgery, or I could try physical therapy. Since I figured I'd need therapy after the surgery anyway, I decided to try that first. I am now a complete believer! I went to about eight sessions, one per week, with a PT who charged $50 session (I co-paid $25 of it). First he applied heat (ahhhhhhh!) and then he and his assistants would give me exercises to do, such as raising a bar over my head, manipulating a rope on a pulley behind my back, and stretching and retracting an elastic band in a forward motion. I also had a chart of exercises to do at home with an elastic band tied to a doorknob. Within eight weeks, all was well! If you would like a copy of my exercises and my elastic band, you are welcome to them--but I'm recommending the heat, too! Maybe you could find a cheaper PT? Hope you feel better! Kim

hadar I have been quite surprised at how many people that I know personally have had frozen shoulder. I could tell from research on the Internet that it was more common than you'd think, but even in our small circle. You are the fourth person (you probably know that Shirley had it too!), and one of our friends up north had it in both shoulders (at separate times).

I've heard from others that the heat does wonders. Also, my friend up north has shared her exercise sheets with me. I have just been a little lazy, since the range has increased, and the pain is now gone, but I know I should accelerate the entire process with PT.

Thanks for the offer, and we hope to see you soon!
