If people don't accept Jesus as thier Savior they go to Hell--or so it is said.

So it is safe to say, all the Native Americans, ALL of the Jews in the Holocaust (including the kids), any non christian nation who has ever been conquered by an oppressor, gays, Hindis etc--are all going to Hell. Sounds like Jesus is a pretty egocentric guy.. Uh Oh, he may strike me down for using my brain!

Also, did you know when the Bible was written men believed that the Earth was "flat as a pancake" and that if you fell off the edge you would be eaten by dragons?

If an event such as the Tsunami of several years ago happened in ancient times, it would surely be described as 'Gods Wrath'. Of course they had no idea other countries like North America even existed then. To them it would be the whole world in thier Ethnocentric belief system.

I guess all those Native Americans were totally wrong about the meaning of life. I mean look what happened to them, the Christians killed them all and took thier land.

That to me is the arrogance, the stupidity and contradiction of Christianity..

It wouldn't last if people didn't brain wash kids with it to get them started early on the path of self deception.

Still haven't met a Christian that adopts the viewpoints above who can really debate anything without running into a wall of contradictions..

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare? - ExChristian.Net - Articles

These guys are idiots. He loves the support you give him. And Karith Foster is happy too.

We the I-Nation love you so much we want you to know your opinion is noted. But it is your opinion. And in the scheme of life it really doesn't matter.

He's back... And nothing you say will change those hard facts.

So call him a racist, bigot or any other word you wish. Sadly because he is no Imus.

Imus does more for the people then anyone I know in public life. 3 words are what brought him down.

Times up. And never was really stated. Bernard McGuirk is a man that has worked with Imus for 20 years. He is street wise and knows the lingo. Yes he has gone farther then the I-Man in many things he said. But as a listener for almost 30 years to Imus, he was a positive thing in the scheme of the comical presentation they brought to radio and television. I pray Bernie returns with Imus, along with Charles, Rob Bartlett and Lou Ruffino. Not a day goes by that the I-Man is missed from my daily routine.

Re: Maybe Condi’s Black After All

Yeah, I saw that item too, but it didn't occur to me that this might be the "black" in her. Sort of like some of Dave Chapelle --- funny as hell, but if there's a white person watching it with you who's laughing, you gotta suppress a strong desire to stab them. So I liked it. And then again I didn't.

Art is like that. It operates on multiple levels. Hunter's suggestions. I would have liked to have had each of the candidates answer the question that was given to Obama with just 1 minute left, ie What was his take on the wide varience between CEO compensation and the income of the average worker? I realize that poverty is Sojourner's main theme, but the corollary issue of economic justice is so avoided by both the candidates and the media. I thought the CEO compensation question was the most important of the forum and Obama's answer was weak. Of course, it got no play by the media pundits, after the event. Christ was willing to confront the abuse of power in his time. We should be doing the same thing, today.

Re: Verse of the Day: Living Wages for the Poor

If we don't try to apply God's wisdom as spoken in the Bible to our own lives and our current society, then why bother to read the Bible at all? The Bible is more than pretty prose and poetry. It's underlying Truth is relevant to today.
I will give an example where I agree with Kevin S, though. Sojourner's has taken a strong pro Amnesty position on the current immigration debate. They do so based on the major biblical theme of "welcoming the stranger". They are right in that there are numerous biblical passages that promote this theme. But what
Sojourner's has left out of the discussion, is all the passages that say that the stranger is expected to comply with Hebrew law and custom, while among the Hebrews. Exodus and Leviticus have numerous passages that say strangers must not worship competing gods. They must obey the sabbith, etc. The new testiment passage saying that we should, "give to Cesar what is Cesar's and give to God what is God's" certainly implies that we should obey governmental laws. Jesus broke the law when He threw the moneychangers out of the temple. But that was done openly, to protest and make a point. The Sojouner's immigration position ignores all of this.

Re: Left Behind’s Jenkins and Others Shatter Evangelical Stereotypes (by Brian McLaren)

"We beseech you, speak plainly. I think you're suggesting that because the early church was not governed by the Bible as we know it why should the modern church? I'm no theologian but I would expect that there is some kind of evangelical dispensation to cover this. If there isn't, there's bound to be one along shortly. In an industry that expends a great deal of effort to make sure they've the right planes in the right place at the right time, they were finding it increasingly hard to accurately predict when and where they needed planes. They were frequently expecting full flights later in the day and would send larger planes only to find that huge numbers of people were getting onto the emptier earlier flights and that they'd end up over-resourcing the end of the day flights. While I find it frustrating, it was a argument that was hard to argue, especially with the increase over the last few years of high fuel costs and a tightening market. While it may not have been the best-solution from a user perspective, it's certainly a way to constrain the customer to follow through on their original intent that Frontier has planned for. Now, I'm not even going to try and defend the situation where Jeremy had an empty seat next to him, but the flip side is going to be that if they allow one exception to the change in policy, they'll need to keep it up and compromise their own efforts.

Re: Bad Move Frontier Airlines, Sean Menke

I agree on the experience side, but how should they deal with their logistics problem?

Re: Canadian Apology

Fuck you!

Re: Solar : All PS3 Themes

I really like the theme, definitely one of the better ones. The only thing I don't like the theme are the smaller default icons to the bottom right of the theme icons. For example, the music note icon, has another smaller music icon in the bottom right. I haven't downloaded this theme yet but I can already tell it's awesome. Looks like the same icons from Solar V1.1, which ain't a problem since those icons rule. And, of course, the background looks to be top-notch. Can't wait to try it out and figure out which background I like best, this or Solar V1.1.

Also, I love the fact that there's only one background per theme; I don't like when there's more than one background because there's always the one I prefer the most, and the backgrounds randomly change.

Re: Tellus (New Earth) : All PS3 Themes

I really didn't even notice the wrench thing until it was mentioned. It's not a huge problem (I'm using the theme right now - I'm still not sure if I like this or Solar 1.1 more), but I think I'd prefer the icons without the wrenches.

Anyways, keep making themes Spawn because they're awesome. As a game player, those might be best -- in the short term.

Unfortuantely, though, you picked, by the far, the most expensive options to develop. For EA, Blizzard, SOE, etc. that's a fine model, and they love you for it. But, you are going to have to live with the fact that game development costs are going through the roof. You can no longer develop a simple game, and the new costs are in the $10M+ range!

The idea of episodes is a way for game developers to open up more creativity and open the marketplace for lower-cost developed games. As a game player, do you always want 1 or 2 MMORPGs? 1 or 2 FPS? Essentially, a movie studio model where creativity is limited by production budgets?

Be more open minded to episodes. There may be some glitches. And, yes, they may not be as value priced right now. But, once development costs start impacting retail price (i.e., $60-$70/game title in the coming years), you might start to like the model a lot more.

Re: Libertarianism and Christianity have nothing to do with one another

When Martin Luther nailed his protest up to the church door in fifteen-seventeen, he may not have realised the full significance of what he was doing, but four hundred years later, thanks to him, my dear, I can wear whatever I want on my John Thomas,... I'll be reading your Gratitude post in particular soon; just a little long to have been able to tackle yet.

On this post, all I'll say just now is that a feature of biblical teaching is paradox ie the truth may not be in either extreme, it can be in both - which I think is a perspective to take seriously.

I'm sometimes bothered when I see atheists supporting and egging each other on, and mocking or mishandling opposing views just because they agree with each other -at the expense of exercising proper critical reflection on each other's arguments. That sometimes seems to happen on Jonathan's blog For that reason, regarding you as a thoughtful sort of chap, I'd be keen to get your take on latter developments on the 'evidence & subjectivity' thread on J's blog - my recent comment is number 39. I just want to break up a little the perception atheists together can develop that reason and fairness are all on their side and not on the side of opposing views. The commentator I responded to is a friend so it's not personal attack ; I want to focus on the points made - of which, incidentally, mine were not comprehensive and can be expanded on in later posts and comments.

Cheers, I'll drop by again.

Re: Ecumenical Encyclical

You'll see I unintentionally stirred up a bit of a storm on said blog; I hope we'll all be able to move forward more fairly and amicably! The essay itself's 4 pps, but it's sparked some comments from the atheists about evidence, in response to which he has pointed out that they 'ignore the fact that all evidence needs interpretation, otherwise it is just data. Interpretation requires a system of
meaning, which clearly is beyond "evidence".

An insight I think's worth pondering, and I've commented on further there myself.

I know from your recent comment n J's C&M; post that like me you're busy this week, but when you've a mo do drop by. There's a word that comes to mind to describe your more relaxed approach to views you don't share: mellowing.

As I say quite a lot in discussion with Jonathan, Lee and Billy though, one of the problems I have with a lot of atheist thought I read is its tendency to polarise: science OR religion, God in control OR free will; God's power OR human effort. And I don't deny that religious believers don't sometimes fall into the same trap. In my reading and experience, though, mature Christian thinking has a capacity to reconcile and synthesise, recognising that reality is not one-dimensional but multi-faceted. And this goes right to the nub of the question of God: the epistemological q of whether scientific and rational enquiry are the only ways of knowing, or whether others such as revelation, mysticism, personal knowledge and others have validity too. I think they deserve exploration.

And I for one wouldn't say you were straight off condemned simply for not at present being able intellectually to believe in God. To my mind, salvation is rather broader in its reach and scope than that. God is love according to the Bible, and I think his love is greater and more profound than even some Christians sometimes realise.

Re: UPDATE: Dragon Dynasty's 'Supercop'

I don't get all this bitching about the quality of Dragon Dynasty's product. What other company are you comparing their work with? What other company distributing Hong Kong movies to the home video audience in the U.S. (or elsewhere, for that matter) has done a better job overall? Has any company in the U.S. come close to putting as much into Hong Kong movie dvds as DD has? Not that I'm aware of. I'm not saying DD is perfect but it seems to me they've tried to be by fans for fans, working with whatever material is available to them (while simultaneously having to worry about what releases will be profitable).
If you guys really feel such a need to gripe I hope you're also griping directly to DD at their website, where your complaints might actually be productive.
As for the scenes that were cut from Police Story 3: Supercop, I have a vhs copy of the uncut version; as I recall nothing of particular interest or importance was cut out for the U.S. edit... of course, the same can't be said for Miramax's cut (butchering?) of Armor of God 2: Operation Condor, that one deserved major dissent.

Re: UPDATE: Dragon Dynasty's 'Supercop'

I'm not familiar with Image Entertainment or Well Go USA; what titles of theirs' would you recommend checking out? They act like thermostatic faucets, but instead work by simply regulating pressure of one (hot) to match supply pressure changes of the other (cold), which is much cheaper. When someone flushes a nearby toilet, you don't even feel a temperature change (they work pretty well).

Re: Plethora of Options for Green Web Hosting

Dainis,

Interesting point, good question to raise. (And, no final answer)

(All opinion herein expressed are simply my own take on this)

Carbon credits, which you mention, do seem to be a way for 'over-polluting' companies to buy off 'right-to-pollute x amount' credits from companies that don't pollute as much. (This assumes you mean the term carbon credits which describes how companies engage in emissions trading, buying and selling of the 'right-to-pollute' a certain amount.)

This emissions trading is based on an assumption, not universally agreed, that there is a 'reasonable/expected/tolerable' amount of pollution that a company or geographic area can generate. Say 100 units. So the 150 unit polluter can buy 50 units from a 50 unit polluter. Total is 200, within the limit of 2x100.

But you are right that, if this model persists long term, it simply allows overpolluters to pay for more pollution, rather than to clean up their own act.

The base assumption of an agreed and tolerable level of pollution that all are allowed is questionable. It assumes that we have plenty of time to get to clean state. Perhaps OK as a first baby step, but definitely not as a long term policy (IMO).

On the other hand, Carbon Offsets, if spent by a polluting company, or user of polluting technology, would be used to buy some kind of green remediation (trees planted, water cleaned, etc). Which seems like a good thing all around. Though again, it should be a medium term policy until the organization can shift to low or non-polluting suppliers.

So I am all for us supporting green companies when possible, then leaning-green carbon offsetting companies, then buyers of the carbon credit exchange system, and only last resort plain old dirty polluters... Thus it is a good thing for companies to identify what their energy use policy is.

Re: Incredible Sahara Forest Project to Generate Fresh Water, Solar Power and Crops in African Desert

'nature created the Sahara to be a desert, this is what it should stay'

'But, on the other hand, how is it that totally altering or wiping out desert ecosystems counts as "green?" '

Grrrr. When I hear things like this, that's when I reach for my revolver.

The Sahara desert was not created by some intelligent being called "nature" to be a desert according to some precious artistic design that must be preserved. It became desert very recently (in the geological sense). When the first pyramids of Egypt were built, it was still mostly grassland and some forest. It is not an ecosystem that needs to be protected; it is what is left after a formerly thriving ecosystem has been destroyed.

There's no sane reason on this Earth why we should not restore some of the desert to its former green glory, especially if in the process the economies of both Africa and Europe benefit.

Re: Hell is very hot! - Letters to the Webmaster

Listen folks, I've been reading on this website for over 2 years and I've seen these two, Andrew and Preston post their same ignorant garbage on here and they have not read one single argument objectively opposing their beliefs, the reason is that they have been convinced that they are so right in their beliefs, they are so afraid to admit that they could possibly be wrong, because if they were to agree with us and then if we were to suddenly convert back to Christianity by some intervened divined miracle, then they think they would be left standing in the middle of hell and their imaginary God would not take them back.

These people(and all Christians)are psychotic, they suffer from fear induced neurotic psychosis, they are mentally unstable, this shows the condition of the American people, the majority of Americans (mostly Christians and political leaders) are on prescribed neurotic medication and anti-depressants.

They do not have the ability to focus and identify with present day reality.

This condition is so very obvious, so lets leave them be, and let them post their ignorant nonsense, because they have been told that their mental conditioning is correct with ancient insane scripture, their agenda is not to find reason with our comments, but to foster their mental sickness to make themselves appear to look righteous and mentally stable.

The religious Christian agenda is to make it's doctrine appear to be mentally stable and undeniably correct, that's the reason it needs an agenda to spread, Christianity will never end, because it needs to expand in order to populate it's own mentally unstable disease.

All held unverifiable beliefs are only passed down verbally through indoctrination by people in a position of trust and allowed only by the brain to accept false religious dogma's.

Mental instability accurs by not allowing the brain (from false pastoral induced fear) to reject or to analyze by objective reasoning, religious indoctrination, the only cure is to allow one's brain to analyze all unverifiable beliefs, by using normal born-with reason and objectivity, this will remove the unnecessary fear and give back one's original mental stability once held, before acceptance of the indoctrination of false religious dogma's.

We ex-c's, are proof of this reversed mental process, but the fundies cannot see this, nor will they allow themselves to see this.

Re: Written by Men? - Letters to the Webmaster

Reincarnation has found a home back where it belongs- in Christianity of course!

Don't let the Bible bashers fool you.
