It often happens to Italian teams that when they play in England the English team goes at it very quickly at the beginning (dur to th ediffering style of Serie A where thuings are slower). Have you never noticed this? I thought Inter were gaining control just before the sending off, and had never been seriously troubled. In fact they defended very well throughout.
Liverpool deserved 1 - 0, no more. The 2 - 0 scoreline suggests they played well when I feel they seemed short on ideas.

Just checked out the Guardian Podcast and they basically said the ref very pro Loverpool throughout (possibly gave it to them on a platter) - also said Liverpool did nothing before about halfway through the second half and that the turning point was the injury to Cordoba, forcing 5th choice centre back Burdisso (after Cordoba, Chivu, Samuel, Materazzi) on to the pitch.

If there is anybody right now on earth who might disagree the fact that Ronaldo IS the best player in the world at the moment, I can blindly say that person either doesn't know football or he/she has to be mentally retarded.

Man leave the nationalities out of the way...yes I'm portuguese and dude I watch italian football every bloody Sunday, my wife is Italian, and she knows italian teams have had favours over the years..It's boring, defensive and the players might as well be swimmers..out of ll the italian teams with all the way overpriced players they have none made it to the last four. .[/quote]

Surely it is the English teams who have the overpriced players, Man U have Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo, Ferdinand, Hargreavess, and Carrick all of whom cost more than any player in the Milan ranks at the moment, and in the Inter team too I believe - Ibrahimovic and Gilardino being closest at 17 and 18 million respectively.

Italian football is not well regarded in England for some reason. I always remember the Barca - Milan semi final where all the English commentators were going on and on about Barca's stylish football, when in fact Milan were playing a far better, and more intricate passing game (and only went out as Sheva's goal was wrongly ruled offside).

This competition is well considered throughout the rest of the world, just not in England.

It is surely a difficult competition as teams have to face such varying styles of football.

I really enjoyed the Ronaldo interview at the end. I'd never heard him speak before. I quite liked him, he didn't sound likea footballer, some sort of dictator perhaps.

People seem to miss the point that Fiorentina are not a rich club. Mutu is their one 'star' and he was aquired on the cheap, after his troubles. This is not a story of little Rangers getting one over the big boys.

Pazzini is a Fiorentina yoth product, Vieri gained on a free transfer. Are you sure about what you just said? Mutu was purcahsed on the cheap. I'm sure he is paid more than the Rangers player mind. But really, Fiorentina are not some massive rich club, they happen to have a very clever manager and Sporting director (Corvino), who have assembled a good team out of yoth players (Montolivo and Pazzini, a few washed up has beens (Liverani, Jorgenson, Vieri), and a few Italian players whom are not internationals, and were not bouhgt for lagre sums - Gobbi, Gamberini, Danielli, Pasqual etc), and other young players like Kuzmanovic (£3million). So all in all, Fiorentina are hardly some big spending powerhouse of a club, able to buy their way to success, in fact only a few years ago (around 2000) they went backrupt.

Mind you if Scientology is a religion perhaps Man U can be one too. Perhpas I will go on a pilgrimage to Old Trafford and see the light, or pray to Sir Alex and hear his wise words on the wisdom of using midfielders as wing backs (like Prandelli does at Fiorentina). Perhaps in my darkest moments I can think of that red shirt and the little nike swoosh and it will give me strength.

Anyway, apologies for this, but really,Man U are not a religion they are a football team, just like any other.

The problem for Bergkamp is that Arsenal never did too well in Europe during his reign, so he is not as well recognised as he should be. But then the same goes for many players who did well in one league.
