in State of the Skin 2009 on Steps To Smooth
1. As little time as possible. Combination of Aveeno/Nutrigena & Clinique products. Oh, and a new add: Ponds Day Cream. I have DRY skin! (not counting color - Clinique & Loreal) 7 mins treatment/up to 5 mins color. And sunscreen in products! at least SPF 15. This time of year, occasionally, self tan on my face.
2. Dry skin. WRINKLES.
3. Various Clinique stuff mostly. And eyelash curler and ... Bodyworks lip gloss. Love that one.
4. Learned a long time ago never to say never.
5. Moisturizer and sunscreen. I know, that's 2.
6. mostly classic look with a few small trendy updates.

in When Twitter Isn't Appropriate | Social Media Explorer on Social Media Explorer
You couldn't be more correct. Common sense still applies, now more than ever! I suspect many of the mishaps have more to do with generational differences and inexperience, thus "lessons learned the hard way" come into play.

From a business perspective, companies must include social networking sites in their acceptable use policies. Only including email and broad Internet usage is a big oversight! Once those policies are in place, companies must equip their employees for success (Zappos style).

Great thoughts!

JasonFalls No doubt, Cheryl. I was pleased when our most recent harassment training happened at Doe and social networking sites were incorporated into the thinking. (We have good lawyers.) Companies really need to focus on this emerging medium as one to apply policies for. Thanks for the thoughts.

in Trying out the new Facebook (Scripting News) on Scripting News
I think Twitter users like the new Facebook layout and functionality better than non-Twitter users.

Great insights and suggestions for both FB & Twitter. I especially liked #2.

in Wake Up to How You Share on the Web on Chris Brogan
You're right Chris. This isn't new - only the "forever" part. It's amazing how many people are unaware of what they're signing up for, and especially the number of completely unaware parents whose teens are on FB.

I wonder if FB will somehow see the backlash from folks and offer a "get out now" option as you suggest. Doubtful, but good suggestion, nonetheless. Thanks for posting about this.

in How the Seasonal Blues Work on Chris Brogan
So transparent, Chris. That's what we in your Tribe, have come to appreciate about you. Reminds me of the post of you sticking your head in the toilet. LOL!

It's ironic, this time of year has been challenging for me as well this year as I near the anniversary of the end of my first marriage, and also the death of my mom. Though one happened 11 years ago, and the other 2, the feelings are still sometimes so vivid.

You give validation to so many people. Bless you this holiday and in the year ahead.

LOVE it! The flowers are gorgeous! What a treat and such a fun thing for a hump day.

Just wondering...was Jason your first? I know it's pretty rare for a man to receive flowers.

Connecting social media with real life is the best part of all. Thanks for the example.

in Thanksgiving, Coffee and The Squanto Hop on GoodWordEditing.com
Coffee and Jesus - I'm with you there. And I love your list. Funny thing is, my stepdaughter said she just wanted to relax on Thanksgiving. We're having friends over for dinner and somehow she got this idea that we'd all be dancing. It's a party, right? (I mean, that IS what we do every time we have guests over. Whatever!!)

Could you video the squanto hop and post the link? We might need to teach it to our friends. :-)

in Focus on people - Not ‘hits’! on Jim's Marketing Blog
Learn something new every day! Thanks for the tip on alt tags. Now I have to figure out how to implement in wordpress. I can particularly see their usefulness for visually-impaired web users who rely on text to voice capabilities. Never thought about that nor how it could positively impact SEO.

Whodathunk? Pretty interesting trend to spot + great comments.

RE: Pam Martin's comment about talking to a 9th grader, I've often heard that many people only read at that level. Evidently, magazine designers think it's true. K+I+S+S = Keep it simple stupid.

Can't wait to see how + plays out next for you.

in When Should Kids Have Cell Phones on Dad-O-matic
Chris,

Great subject and VERY timely! My 12 year old is one of the few in her circle of friends w/o a cell phone. It's a tough call between giving us a little added sense of security and her a little bit of additional freedom and responsibility, with - are we trying to "keep up with the Joneses?" and does she "really" need a cell phone.

Just last night we were at a cookout with some friends from church and their 11 year old daughter had a cell phone (and has for more than a year). Her parents gave it to her after she made all A's for a period of time.

Maybe we'll encourage her with continued good grades, and/or any of the following: daily physical activity, additional chores around the house, reading a good book once a month, or ... I suppose we'll figure it out relatively soon, by Christmas or next birthday at the latest.

The comments are all great to hear. Thanks for a relevant topic!

in You Can Do Your Job Without Twitter on Chris Brogan
My increased use of social media has helped me grow exponentially in the last year, both professionally and personally. I've gained visibility, information and opportunities for collaboration and real live business. I've been able to pass referrals more easily (see URL link).

And, I've met (online and IRL) some great folks!

Now, Chris, what are YOUR reasons?

in RMN ‘Tweets’ the funeral of 3-year old boy on The Colorado Independent
I accidentally submitted my last comment before I was finished.

The reporters behavior was inexcusable.

May the family take comfort in knowing that most decent people would be truly offended by this news.

My prayer is that they will find Peace and Healing from many who will reach out to them during this time. And may they be allowed to grieve fully and completely, without further intrusion from insensitive people.

I'm reminded of the Ecclesiastes, a time to laugh, a time to cry -- a time to Twitter and a time to be silent. Obviously, this reporter didn't get it.

Twitter is a great tool and many people are using for personal and business applications.

in Gnomedex 2008 Overdelivered on Chris Brogan
Chris,

I agree with Amrita & Liz (make that 3 votes). There are so many conferences and expos out there today, that's it's very difficult to decide which to attend. Should you decide to do a post as suggested, I'd ask for top 10 along with a list of typical attendees, purpose and what your key takeaways were, who should attend and why. Given your extensive network, if you could also poll a couple of folks to see what their top suggestions are, that would be helpful as well.

Like so many, I value your experience and your opinion and often look to you for leadership on matters of social media.

Great post! I love the fact that you wrote how it scares the crap out of you. Parenting is indeed the thing for which we are all ill prepared, particularly if we've had less than idyllic role models. I suspect your boys are blessed beyond what you might imagine.

And we all are blessed with the grace of the Father who loves best, and perfectly. In spite of us.

Mark,

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful conversation and for being an example to many for how to live out the faith, not perfectly but with a pure heart.

Did this video ever take me back! I still remembered all the words and harmonies from when I was a kid (and the afros). Will sing it today as I run.

Blessings my friend.

in Identi.ca Is More About What Comes Next on Chris Brogan
I went to Identi.ca to see what it was all about and reserve my name (thanks for the personal branding tip). While I don't fully speak the IT language, I believe the Open ID thing will be huge for the future. But I'm with you Chris. For all its (sometimes) frustrations, I'm sticking with Twitter for the presence and the relationships that are already forming.

Good post - thanks for confirming it's OK to check out new things but not dive in completely to everything.

Happy 4th!

in Growing Your Audience- Some Basics on Chris Brogan
Great post Chris, again! Lots of good food for thought.

Currently, my blog (new as of 4/08) is not the homepage of my website. My marketing materials list my homepage only. I use social networking sites to promote specific posts, but so far haven't included separate links for the blog itself. I would welcome thoughts on that from you and your other blog readers.
