Tried this pattern a couple of times (using some code from the Ted-On-Flex blog - http://www.onflex.org/ted/2007/02/code-behind-i...), but have always found several pitfalls. This seems to clarify a number of my questions. Thanks!

Re: Firefox 3: Fonts and text

Just curious, I'm running Firefox 3 RC2 on Windows XP SP3 but I don't see any ligatures. I've checked the typeface in Charmap and can identify the ligatures, they just don't appear on screen. Tried Georgia, Verdana, Zapfino. From what I've read Ligature support dropped in FF3 RC1 or earlier. Is there Moz specific CSS code to enable/disable this feature?

Re: New LED Puts Incandescents, Fluorescents to Shame

Here's the link to the SSC website. It'll be really cool if they can manage to do this, but I don't see any mention of how they'd get the power back down to earth. I think that's a much bigger technical hurdle than developing an RLV. I'd say use the existing technologies to get the power source settled, then move onto optimizing the rest of the package. It'll be interesting to hear more....

Re: Pedal-Powered Buick Driver Not Guilty

I have to disagree with Michael's point. The HTA clearly declares several points towards the operation of slow moving vehicles on the roadways. This includes Horses, Bicycles, and Automobiles. The operators of these slow moving vehicles do have right of way over the entire lane of traffic and should move to the right only when they deem its safe to do so. This is why we (theoretically) have a maximum speed limit - we're allowed to operate within that limit.

When you operate a vehicle at a higher rate of speed you are responsible for passing safely.

Re: Working Together Makes Bikes Race-Track Fast

The question is, does it amplify your speed? ie. If each cyclist rides at 20kph, times four is it capable of travelling 80kph (or at least some multiple faster than each rider would be capable of on their own.) I'd imagine a generator would be the easiest way of utilizing that potential.

Re: Obama Wraps Up Nomination, Celebrates By Riding His Bike

Maybe its just me, but does his back tire look flat? :)

Re: Hybrid Buses a Bust in Toronto

The Streetcars used in Toronto are hardly quiet. They have to pump water onto the street to lubricate the wheels as they turn corners in densely populated areas. This makes the tracks slippery when crossing by bike or foot. The tracks are also hazardous to cross by bike in the best of weather. Driving the streetcars down the center lane also requires that traffic stop as the passengers are allowed to depart.

Its hardly a good solution.

Personally I'd like to see electric buses. They can change lanes to allow passengers to depart at the curb, overtake parked cars that would otherwise obstruct a streetcar, and there would be no streetcar tracks to trip up cyclists.
