Q. I will try to install Fedora Core 5 and Suse 10.1 via Q and see how it goes. I will post my findings as soon as I get a chance to complete the installation.

I'll give Parallels a try after I'm done with Q so I can compare the two.

On my ThinkPad, I had disabled the trackpad because I found it to be incredibly annoying. I turn on the mouse acceleration on all my computers because I like being able to move the mouse very quickly from one of the screen to another. The main reason I don't like the trackpad on the MacBook is purely because I have to take my hand off the keyboard when I'm typing and then move it back when I'm finished. The only saving grace on the MacBok trackpad is being able to use two fingers for scrolling and also using two fingers to open up the "right-click" context menu. I still maintain that THE KILLER LAPTOP would be ThinkPad T60 running OS X and dual (or triple) boot into other OSes such as Linux.

There are plenty of IM clients that work with GTalk, AIM, YIM, MSN Messgenger, Skype, etc. If you're using some proprietary application, you might have a problem but otherwise, no problems here. Are for blog software, that would depend on your software provider. Most of the blogging applications I have seen use web based clients which are not a problem. I haven't yet come across any Firefox plugins that don't work on OS X. I've moved to Flock as my primary browser on OS X and Linux. I am using a logitech mouseman trackball, a usb hub, Microsoft Natural Keyboard 4000, and a few other random USB and firewire devices without any problem.

Please let me know what you decide to do and how it goes.

$VIX has become a shitty indicator since the big guys figured every common man now knows about $VIX - thanks to the crash last year. CNBC shows also talk a great deal about $VIX. The correlation of $VIX and $SPX was fantastic until recently it just is not a good indicator.. Am I wrong in saying this?

Also, one big difference this time vs in 1990 is China.. They can scoop up some assets if the assets are marked down too low too long? I would pay attention to the sentiment, as soon as sentiment improves, fundamentals wont matter and everyone will be back on the bull market train.... Only time will tell whats gonna happen.. comments?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for posting informative entries as always. I wonder if Washington has decided, I mean they literally seem to have taken oaths to do whatever it takes to save the real estate market and financial companies, what catalyst can cause this house of cards (we all know it is house of cards) to fall? WHat $410 billion over 10 years anyway? One more TARP?

The mark-to-market rule change gives these lenders to hide their balance sheets and they can go on repeating what they did earlier in the near future..they may not go that crazy but companies like BEE etc. don't have to worry about filing chapter 11 anymore like GGP did.. Uncle Sam has got everyone's back now....I sometimes wonder since many are expecting the collapse in commercial REITs , it just may not happen?

I agree with your analysis that the markets may be overbought and heading for a short correction (10-15%). Also, although the interpretation of the capacity utilization seems valid, would you also consider that this may be a lagging indicator and will eventually start turning upwards once the sentiment and markets start going up due to the tremendous amount of dollar printing that is going on, which eventually will trickle down in the markets, causing the deflationary pressure to subside? Sorry for the loooong sentence but you see what I mean? Thoughts?

Near term top is definitely here today! I expect a nasty pullback on Monday ! We just need any excuse now over the weekend to start the selling process but I agree that with teh mark-to-market accouunting rule change, it is difficult to see what bad news could be soo devastation for sellers to take the market below the march lows..

VIX formula is open for manipulation I feel at times. I mean how can you control the value of $VIX and say that it is touching the EMAs or supports, unless you literally flood put orders on indexes to pump the $vix.... Am I making any sense?

Did you notice that the Put Options on VIX dont move as much as the VIX moves .. i.e., the implied volatility of the VIX is rising and rising.. How do you trade the downfall of VIX once the market starts rallying for the near term?
