in Disgraceful FIFA Need Rules Shake-up after Boswinga Let-off on EPL Talk
Playing the ball to the corner flag, unlike some other forms of time wasting (e.g., feigning injuries to get medical attention, or really slow substitutions) is perfectly within the rules and seems like legitimate (if boring) tactic to employ. I can sympathize with Bosignwa's frustration, but he still deserved a red card and a suspension.

in Selling Robbie Keane Could Be a Huge Mistake for Liverpool on EPL Talk
The transfer is an embarrassment. Keane was given a fair chance to settle in, Liverpool are left with few striking options, and to top it, Liverpool eat an 8 million pound loss on what was effectively a 6-month loan.
I'm hope Benitez will provide some explanation because it seems like a royal f*ck up to me.

in Man United 2-2 Aalborg: Tevez Has A Lot To Learn on EPL Talk
I'm with Anja, I'm not that impressed with Berbatov.
Tevez is a great player, and given more playing time I'm sure Tevez's finishing would improve. Unfortunately for Tevez, I think its really Wayne Rooney who fills a similar role at United, and Rooney is obviously in good form at the moment.
Berbatov, for his part, reminds me in of Nicolas Anelka at Chelsea. Both are good, opportunistic, strikers, but both seem to lack an edge I'd want in a finals match against tough opposition (I'd always take Drogba over Anelka for that reason).

in Liverpool Rescue Draw Against Atletico Madrid After Phantom Penalty on EPL Talk
I wanted Liverpool to tie the game, but I was disappointed in the penalty. I hate seeing games decided by questionable penalties.
I wouldn't call it a "phantom" penalty, there was obvious contact, but I didn't think Gerrard had control of the ball when they collided. It looked like a 50/50 ball, and both players went for it. The penalty was very harsh.

in Football Clubs Must Be Laughing All The Way To The Bank on EPL Talk
Some actual analysis might be interesting.
Do premier league clubs actually make money? What's the (estimated) net income for the teams in the league? How much has the value of those teams increased year on year?
I would guess that owning a sports team, especially in the premier league, which provides no profit sharing or salary caps, isn't a free ride and I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few clubs lost money.
It's true that owners take full "advantage" of their fans support - one could certainly argue that they abuse it. Fans for their part expect, owners to pony up the cash for new stadiums and players on a regular basis.

in Soccer Fans: Boycott Sony Bravia HD TVs on EPL Talk
Have to agree with Todd.
Personally, I found it more annoying that the Sony sales pitch is just mind bogglingly dumb. "If sports are shot on a Sony HD Camera, shouldn't you watch them on one?" - I guess I should use Internet Explorer to surf the web because so many pages are written in MS FrontPage...

in Time For West Ham To Pay Up And Shut Up on EPL Talk
The attention grabbing headline is a bit ridiculous and total flame bait. That said, the actual facts being reported seem to be accurate. If someone is looking for a source outside of the Sheffield team webpage:

So, let me get this straight, you think Mike Ashley is a moron because he travels abroad, drinks beer, and likes to party with celebrities? You can call me a moron too because that sounds fantastic!

in 5 Reasons Why The European Football Championship Is Better Than The World Cup on EPL Talk
Sorry, a little US pride here. The US has only been a absolute horror show in 2 of the last 5 world cups (1990 and 1998) were simply very bad in 2006 and almost respectable in 1994.
I'm also not sure how you could deduce anything from the first (silly) round of CONCACAF qualifying. I guess Jamaica won 13-0 on aggregate, whereas Mexico and the US only won 9-0 on aggregate, so that puts Jamaica in the top spot...?
