in Would Advertising Offend You? | Social Media Explorer on Social Media Explorer
I've been thinking about the exact same thing for my blog!
For your blog, personally, I wouldn't care since 99.9% of the time I read via RSS - the only time I've been to the site is to comment (such as now). My main problem with ads is when they are big and flashy, and get in the way of the actual blog material. I think if you can organize the layout in such a way that the ads are viewable but obnoxious, then you'll be fine. I think it would be cool if your ads were for unique products and services, like start-ups and individuals who are getting started, instead of lame Google ads that don't say anything interesting. I think having an editorial policy for ads would be good too, same as bloggers who have editorial policies for pitches and the like.

I think you should check BizEquity's website again. It's working for me.

I'm talking about her *work*, not just her blog. If you paid attention to anything she does, you'll realize that Sex and the Ivy is not the only places she writes.
And I think it's funny that you call anonymous people "piranhas." You do realize that's what you are, right? Proud of yourself?

her blog is the only way anyone knows who she is, and it obviously isn't her proudest accomplishment. too bad her other work isn't very impressive, either.
of course, being a harsh and faceless critic, i am obviously also a mean, bad person. i guess i don't care.

Do you even know what "self-actualized" means? It means to develop or achieve one's full potential. While I don't think Lena has achieved her full potential (nor do I think any 20-year-old has done so...) I do think that she has a better understanding of what she wants out of life and is working to achieve that than most people. She has a firm understanding of what she believes in and she has a goal of being a writer, and thus she is pursuing that both here and in other areas - internships and freelance writing that she's done in the past.

really? you think the trouble lena has caused for herself for these years has put her closer to self-actualization than most people? sure, she may now know what she does NOT want and should NOT be doing, but most of us never had to blog about our private lives for two years before we figured out that the world is not our friend. millions of people have access to the internet. people in real life are piranhas; anonymously they will swallow you whole. if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. a ten-year-old might have strong convictions and may know what they want to do with their future; a person who is close to self-actualization knows the right way to grasp that future according to those convictions. putzing around on the internet and whining about how everyone is mean to you doesn't seem to be that.

This post explains a lot... I had no idea about the outting or anything mostly because I don't go around researching your life. All I know is from what you post here. I think most people are idiots and those that think your sex life is "dangerous" and that you need "help" clearly aren't paying attention and definitely need to be ignored. I'm 22, a virgin and a Christian (and probably the only one who reads your blog), but I don't think you need to be "rescued" because you seem to have a very good grasp on your decisions and are more self-actualized than anyone else our age.
But it does seem like this causes so much emotional burden for you that I hope you are thinking carefully about whether to close this blog. If you do, I won't be surprised, and I doubt I will miss you for too long because you are a talented writer with a snarky sense of humor and I wager you'll find a creative writing job or be publishing books in no time at all.
I always believed that life is too short to do something that makes you miserable. Just my opinion, of course.

For the record, I don't think you're the only Christian or virgin who reads the blog :)
In any case, probably the most annoying thing I've learned through blogging is that there are a LOT of wannabe rescuers out there who think any admission of depression or uncertainty or weakness (I'm 20 for heaven's sake!) means that they should make it their mission to save me, instead of trusting that I'll grow up and learn. I'd rather face brutal criticism than someone with a major case of savior complex.

in To All The Men I Wouldn’t Fuck on Sex and the Ivy
I wouldn't write half (more than half, actually) of what Lena writes on her blog, but if you don't like being "shocked" or whatever, then why are you reading this? You obviously like it as much as everyone else does - or you're a hypocrite. And so what if she uses her ad money for trips to Europe? What else is she going to use it for? Buying a house? And if you have been paying attention to Lena, her sex life is what she writes about. That's it. Get over yourself if you don't like it.

I loved this. So funny. Except, you know, for you freaking out and whatnot. I think I prefer your Tumblr, though. It seems like a much better mix of "you" and gives me a slightly better perspective when it comes to reading about your relations.
