The rider in the picture was my student in the class. She had never been on a motorcycle before, and the picture was taken during Excercise 4, when students learn how to "shift and stop" (combine upshifting, downshifting and stopping).

I'm not sure why she owned "an entire harley outfit", but I've often seen students come to class with good gear. I've had students in class in full racing leathers with pucks. It doesn't mean they're neccessarily doing anything unsafe.

in Oregon and Washington Have Most Knowledgeable Drivers… Again on Northwest Cycle News
It only takes a 70 percent score to pass (the site says that the test is about as difficult as a state written test).

No wonder it's so dangerous to drive. We should really raise the bar a bit.

What exactly is your objection to Dr Hurt's statement?

I believe it was on this site that you quoted a recent WSP talking points memo about older riders (returning baby boomers) being involved in more accidents. And the statistics of Alcohol involvement in rider fatalities speak for themselves."

in Washington State Patrol: “Motorcycle drivers are killing themselves.” on Northwest Cycle News
to me, the stats are basically inline with the Hurt report, and other studies I've seen, except the 2/3 "single vehicle accidents". As I recall, Hurt and others cited about 40%...

To me, this essentially boils down to a lot of people are dieing because they can't negotiate corners. But why would it be worse here and now... I think that's the real question.

All of the points are consistent with what I've seen elsewhere - except the 2/3 "single vehicle accidents" stat. I believe the hurt study cited 40%, and it seems to me that's in line with other studies I've seen.

Also, is there any chance you could get links to the actual sources for the stats? That would be very helpful.

Thanks
