Hey - I'm looking into adding Disqus to my blog, and I realize this is an old post but I had a few questions (hopefully you find this and can answer them ;) )...

Have Disqus taken any additional steps to quell spam? I've read that they have become a real target for spam.

Is there an easy way to disable comments after a set time period when using Disqus?

It always bothered me that spammers always have such awful grammar. I'm not sure why, maybe its just a pet-peeve or something... It's just always bugged me. It honestly seems like every spam message has at least one instance of a comma not being followed by a space. ugh...

I think this is the right move for them. Now in order for people to stumble they will have to go to the main StumbleUpon page rather then simply using their already installed toolbar. This will mean many more pageviews/unique daily users to their main page, which, in turn, will mean more opportunity for sponsers/advertisements. Great move StubleUpon, this will surely do well for you gusy in the long run.

As a newer resident of KW (moved in near fairview mall), I've been on the lookout for great places to eat. I've tried Martini's and Del Dente (as they are so close) but I haven't made it out too far yet. From what I've seen so far, I really enjoyed both. They were both excellent.

I didn't care much for the other two suggestions, but that first one really caught my eye. I've been promoting my homepage all this time without a great return rate (people only come back for the top karma links I'm sure), and I've never thought of sending them to an alternate landing page... This has really given me something to think about. Would this also help my page gain PR as a whole - they would still be backlinks right? I suppose I will have to look into this more.

I've been doing this for the last couple of months and I can say that it DEFINITELY works. There is no question. Top Commentator blogs (like this one) are backlink gold mines. They are wonderful stuff. Each month I've been focusing on a different 5-6 blogs aiming to be somewhere in the list. It hasn't brought me much traffic, but it has definitely upped my number of backlinks.

By far the best tip I've gotten for indexing my page quickly is to open up a blog on eBay blogs. I just created a small blog, wrote a 150 word essay and posted it (linking back to my page). Google had indexed my eBay blog within an hour, and it was showing up in Google search results withing 2 hours as a link to my site. It was great - and highly recommended.

Excellent compilation of links. I regularly read a few of them (blueverse for example). I find that these money making blogs offer great ways of promoting your blog in addition to making money (which, believe it or not, has nothing to do with why I'm reading them). They continually have new ways of building backlinks and traffic. Anyway, great stuff and thanks.

I NEVER would have thought in this way, but its very true. Well done. Google to me, means something big. Google to my parents, means, well nothing. Now this doesn't mean that they don't use the internet, they just don't use it much. They would never think of using a google phone, or even google maps. You are dead on - if Google gets their name out there even more, they really can reach a greater audience.

I've been following this on TechCrunch, and I don't think that there is any question at all that Facebook will survive. While they may be experiencing hiccups by attempting to expand too quickly, they will make it. If you have a girlfriend who is in the 20-29 year old demographic, then you know how much time she spends on facebook...

I agree with much of what you said, however, this doesn't mean the end for facebook. Markets like social networking entirely depend on their user base. They are notoriously hard sites to start and require major funding to get them off the ground (and popular). I don't think you will see facebook or myspace losing their lead anytime soon...

I'm quite guilty of not completely reading all the content on a page. I really think this is one of the reasons that list posts do so well. Those special posts convey a lot of information very quickly, so the reader doesn't have enough time to lost interest.

I've always found it easier to get my top content onto Reddit (as compared to Digg). It's far easier to get to the front page, all it takes is a few early votes to really get noticed, whereas Digg requires far more to get noticed.
