I don't know... A lot of people are saying weezer's going downhill, but I think they're still awesome, just a little different. I love the red album. Weezer's my favorite band! :D

Am I the only female who hates that Beyonce song? I'm a single lady and I don't want a ring on it. On another note, yes Nelly is looking really good in these ads.

in Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club on Jack and Jill Politics
Every time this Jeremiah Wright question rears its ugly head, my sister and I can't help but shake our head at Michelle & Barack. You should have gone 10 blocks further to Apostolic Church of God folks.

Bishop Brazier would have never thrown you under the bus nor given you cause for concern politically.

Ironically, Bishop Brazier and Barack share a more similar world view than Rev. Wright.

As a WW2 veteran, Bishop is without question a patriot, as a member of the greatest generation. He never fails to mention, from the pulpit, despite all our governments failures, this is still the best country in the world. (Which is usually followed by a joke about how he would suit up again and go serve @ 85 if there was a CREDIBLE threat to our safety).

Besides that he would NEVER, EVER use such inflammatory language behind the pulpit or anywhere else.

His message is always about loving one another and forgiveness, no matter our differences or background. Respect is always shown.

And as a deeply moral person of conscious, he preached against the war in Iraq from jump. Making many of the same arguments as Barack regarding the invasion.

Such a shame - Bishop Brazier represents the best of the Black Church tradition a la MLK. Deeply spiritual, with a rational and historical analysis of scripture and how it can better our lives and sustain us. His is a message of unity along with Black self-development and our church does much of the same work in our community as Trinity.

As a member of ACOG who strives to walk the same path led by Bishop Brazier, I won't judge Rev. Wright's actions. I just wish we lived in a society where more Americans understood the word nuance. If they did this wouldn't be the controversy that it is nor would Barack's so called elitist comments about PA.

Sorry y'all if this comment is more in praise of my pastor above all else. With so many questionable preachers with agendas other than Christ behind the pulpit, I'm again reminded how fortunate we are at Apostolic.

in Transcript Of Obama Speech: A More Perfect Union (Now With Video) - Update 2 on Jack and Jill Politics
I am so happy to read that many of you cried too. I was at work sneaking a quick peek at the headlines on dailykos and linked to the speech and tears started streaming down my face.

The breath taking beauty of his words touched me at my core. The honesty, my God. I finally understand what they mean by the truth shall set you free. This is an opportunity that Bill Clinton missed when he had the chance to apologize for slavery and tackle the issue of reparations.

Please America, please let's not get this wrong. A leader of this man's caliber comes along once in a lifetime and here he is, here he is.

I am under no illusions about what an Obama presidency would look like. But if we can get this level of honesty and insight from an Obama presidential briefing, in sharp contrast to Bush's evasive & delusional web of lies, we would be blessed.

Can you imagine his briefings on Iraq, health care, the economy, corporate greed, and on and on.

That in and of its would raise the IQ of this country several points! And I would finally be able to stop threatening to write my book "The Dumbing Down of America"!

in Plagiarism You Can Xerox on Jack and Jill Politics
If you live in or anywhere near Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, or Vermont, get down to the Obama campaign office and get to work.
If you don't want to make calls or go canvassing, there is a lot of office work that needs to get done (tallying the calls, getting maps together, getting mailers together). I spent several hours at the Obama office yesterday (instead of reading annoying pro-Clinton comments on my otherwise favorite blogs (Shakesville!)) and it was so great to be focusing on something productive instead of just scouring the news for some sign of what's to come!

Just to be clear, blogging is absolutely important, and I love this blog.

in Obama Wins Wisconsin & Hawaii - 10 in a row on Jack and Jill Politics
Marc,

I too was curious about what exactly HRC's "experience" was myself, so I looked on wikipedia (I know, I know) and she actually has a pretty impressive resume from law school through about 1985. She worked on the impeachment inquiry for Nixon as well as the Children's Defense Fund when she was in DC, then was a pretty impressive lawyer after moving to Arkansas. I don't think serving on corporate boards (TCBY, Walmart, Lafarge) counts as 'public service' by any definition, though!

She's been on a lot of task forces, but it's hard to know what that really involves. She leaves the whole think very vague in her rhetoric.

Obama's record of public service is much more clear-cut, and his work as a lawyer was definitely more focused on service the public.

Bottom line - I think the substance and focus of Obama's experience is more impressive than Clinton's, although if HRC had stayed on her post-law school track (and not married Bill), she might have been a more appealing candidate to progressive voters.

ok, as you know, I don't know football like I oughta. But in my opnion, the best part of the whole thing is when Natalie was called out at Liberty Athletic Club (our snooty far-away gym) for wearing a "Buck the Fuckeyes" t-shirt on the elliptical, which apparently was unsuitable for children. They gave her a Liberty shirt for free to hide the obscenitites. That's school spirit if I ever heard of it.

I found your blog by looking for "[your name] assf***king [name of barnyard animal, rhymes with "deep"] with big [rhymes with "fildos"]"

Many moons ago, I wrote about a million good news articles for this entertainment news website and then I wrote one about paris hilton and nicole richie being in a fight and suddenly I (me, myself, not french girls with my name, this has been adjusted now by using my middle name all the time, so now I always show up when I google myself) showed up on the first page of my google search for myself for the first time ever. This was during the summer of 2004. There was a little video that had just come out.

Oh gawd Will, get *over* it! This kind of plotting reflects exactly the sort of obsessive attention for which you (usually wrongly) think they're secretly hoping. If you can't otherwise kick this out of your system, then just bloody study here for a while. If I can do it, you can. Then, you can waste time thinking about how your particular degree program stacks up to others', or how you stack up to others in your degree program. An improvement, I guess?

Hi Chuck!

No empirical study is ever dispositive. However, this one is qualitatively different from previous work in that it employs fixed effects to neutralize unobserved differences in student ability. You are pointing to the older version of the study, BTW. A far more comprehensive and influential paper is available in the Quarterly Journal of Economics in 2002, and is available on JSTOR. It responds to comments made about the earlier paper and demonstrates that the findings are robust to the NLS database as well as College and Beyond.

I'll be happy to chat with you about this sometime! My paper has moved slowly through the publication pipeline, but should finally come out in the next few weeks.
