in Why blogging comments suck on Scobleizer
Why not use a comment engine that lets you highlight or otherwise promote various comments/commenters? Something like disqus (although that particular comment engine has its flaws, lol)

It strikes me as slightly amusing that the concerns you express over the apparent invisibility of one commenter is the same as those felt by most amateur bloggers who wonder if their own posts are being overlooked.

...additional... I did this with wine 1.1.4 installed, so the problem may lie in that direction.

in How-to Install Google Chrome in Ubuntu with Wine | Tombuntu on Tombuntu
Hey Tom. Followed all the instructions as per. Chrome installer worked fine, didn't throw up any errors. Everything else worked except for the final command. Cannot find chrome.exe at the location specified. mlocate couldn't find it either, and now running the chrome installer again yields no response at all. Any clues?

If your article was about Soulhuntre's shares in particular, then I'm afraid it was posted in error.

There were, however one or two other people who DID have some potentially embarrassing YouTube favourites appear in their stream. That is not the fault of FriendFeed, YouTube or anyone but the user whose favourites it is. They were foolish enough to favourite items on a service that they were sharing publicly on friendfeed, and they have nobody to blame but themselves for any consequences that might have arisen out of their internet behaviour.

Hey Mark, it certainly was fun, watching all that unfold as it did, however I must point out something....the screenshot you include in your article is of the YouTube favourite from Soulhuntre's friendfeed, and you really didn't need to censor his name on the pic, as it was not part of the issue you are talking about.

As he explained in various comments back on FF, he favourited this stuff deliberately in the knowledge that it would stir the amusement of at least a few people and provide a welcome diversion from all the political discussion. The stuff wasn't favourited months/years ago as suggested...the dates that go on the favourites are when the video was first uploaded, not when it was added to someone's favourites list.

It's just unfortunate that he decided to do this during the issues with Vimeo and Youtube, and so everyone assumed that he would be embarrassed by it.

Given all the facts, and taking your point of view into account, it depends on which limb falls off. Still, whether it's an arm or a leg, you need a lumberjack refresher course.

Tried fisheye tabs, but it was a bit too twitchy for me. I'm totally sold on chromatabs, aging tabs and tab previews though. Thanks for a great article

For anyone having problems or limitations with XWinWrap, I use DevilsPie instead. I find it a little more configurable

Ooh, I must have a go at that. In the meantime, could you tell me what you used to capture your display to a video file. I want to make some screencam demos, but I've yet to find anything that works for me.

in FriendFeed versus Facebook’s feed on AllFacebook
I hope you won't be offended if I point out a couple of things?

First-off, a minor correction, if I may. I don't think FriendFeed is Google's anything - the project is headed by ex-Googlers.

I also don't think you can really compare FriendFeed to FaceBook's feeds in any meaningful way. The two entities work in a different way, to a different end and, quite probably with a different target demographic.

FriendFeed seems primarily to be a way to gather all of one's existing web presences and present them in a unified way to the end user, whatever services they are using. The user gets to choose which services are shared and which are not. Obviously, the site is still in private beta and, as such, supports a limited number of services, but the aim is still clear.

Facebook's feeds, on the other hand, (please correct me if I'm wrong here) seem to require you to add the relevant app to your Facebook page, whereupon every action on that app gets shared. It seems to be more geared towards replacing one's existing web presences. This means that the user really only gets to share their presences with other facebook users.

In summary, I would say that Facebook's feeds are aimed at Facebook users, whereas FriendFeed is aimed at everyone else. As such, I think the two can co-exist quite happily.

Personally, I use Facebook only rarely - usually for a specific task, whilst I have my friendfeed friends page set as my homepage. My fiancee, on the other hand, uses Facebook almost constantly

Still, I have my friendfeed embedded on Facebook, but I don't have my facebook account represented on friendfeed.

I'd like to finish up by saying that you write a very interesting article, and whilst I have no affiliation with FriendFeed or any of their representatives, I'd love to hear what you think about the service once it's out of Beta, supports more services and has a broader userbase.

Hey y'all, general approval with the changes from here....although the ads are, shall we say a little "in yer face". Me, I'd have seperated the two vertical stacks and had the blog between them. That's just me tho - works fine as is.
One and a bit thumbs up! :-)

Yup, that's Hugh, and he's an excellent pianist. He's been using the piano as part of his comedy for many years.

If you look for clips of the end of any edition of "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" on YouTube, you get to see him play piano and his invisible no-handed bugle simultaneously!

In case you didn't know, Hugh plays with "Band from TV" alongside Greg Grunberg and Thomas Decker. That's them playing at the wrap party.
