in My Web 2.0 Expo Keynote: until Best Buy adds people to its website our jobs are not done on Scobleizer
Robert,

Very impressive. You are followed by thousands of people but you get it right when you say that the point is to follower other people.

Thanks for the insights.

in Is California setup for a brain drain? on Scobleizer
As somebody who lives outside of Detroit, I wish that entrepreneurs would consider moving here. There is a ton of cheap vacant office space and home prices are at an all time low. If you can deal with the weather, it's a wonderful opportunity. When was the last time that you actually had a "White Christmas"?

in Facebook is lucky it missed buying Twitter and now should eat Yelp on Scobleizer
Robert,

You've just helped me further conceptualize my business. Thanks!!

I develop K-12 curriculum. I've typically worked with major publishers like Scholastic. But, now I want to do consulting work for Web 2.0 companies. I'm going to help these companies get on the K-12 social graph. Just think about the benefits of getting on this graph: The market is huge and highly influential. Get students hooked on your product now and they'll want to stay on your product later, as long as it continues to meet their purposes.

I haven't been to Yelp. But, I'm going to go and check it out. But, I'm not sure that Yelp will help me that much. After all, I'm not a bar.

in Cool Cat Teacher Blog: Making Friends With Youtube: Why Deep Commenting Makes Youtube so Useful to Educators and what Youtube can Really do to Help Education on Cool Cat Teacher Blog
Vicki,

These are some great ideas. Here's my question: How difficult would it be to actually develop a new URL site to enable teachers to work through videos together before going public with them. I'm not a techie, by any maens, but I can't imagine that this would be too difficult, or expensive? (If I'm understanding you correctly, the point would be to upload the video and not have to download it to watch it?)

We can make the high school classroom discussion higher quality. Can we change the nature of Twitter?
Darren Draper's picture
Darren Draper This is a good question, Andrew, but I wonder if we really want to change
it.

Watching the behavior of @djakes (and others) through the months since his
Tragedy of the Commons post, for example, has been interesting. While
Twitter *can* be extremely educational and discussions *can* be more
focused, I don't think it *always* needs to be that way. Jakes, for
example, can be extremely casual in his discussions on Twitter. Equally, he
can be thought provoking in his discussions about educational topics and
trends.

Do we really want to change this kind of duality in the utilization of
Twitter that naturally exposes the more human side of people in combination
with their professional side?

Vicki,

I just wanted to let you know that my thoughts are with you. My father has had cancer twice: prostate and breast. Thank God, he is still alive and healthy, after five years from his last bout with it. I try to talk to my father every day and I always say to both of my parents, "I love you."

I'm a teacher. I wonder how we could use so many songs on so many different ipods to raise student awareness of culture and diversity in a way that they would enjoy, using Web 2.0? Any suggestions?

Louis Gray If all your students, with all their iPods, were using tools like
Last.fm, you could analyze their listening activity, see similarities
and discover new songs.

OK. Thanks for this news. For those of you who are still interested in Android take a look at my blog for some questions about it that might prompt some interesting discussions. http://pass-ed.blogspot.com/

in louisgray.com: Just Wishing for Something to Go Mainstream Won't Make It So on louisgray.com
A first point: Twitter is fast becoming a part of MSM. Even CNN reads it on the air!!

A second point: Educators need to promote different types of widgets, applications and gadgets. It's not enough for teachers to follow the leads of students in introducing technology. They must also teach them about new stuff. When this occurs, it'll be easier for stuff to go main stream. The only problem is that most teachers couldn't tell the difference between a widget and a gadget.

drewolanoff It's all about education and how you explain things to people. You have to listen to their needs and interests, and suggest services that make sense to them.

Most people don't need to sign up for 800 things like us, and thats fine. But there is no reason why my mom shouldn't have a flickr account to share pictures with her friends. It makes sense.

Hey Robert,

I think it's so cool that your son is interested in what you do. My girlfriend's sons are both into technology. When I have a question I ask them (they are 10 and 12). I guess I know the difference between a digital native and a digital immigrant.

in The latest “shiny social object”: an open/controllable social network? on Scobleizer
Robert,

How come you don't mention mega social network sites like MyLifeBrand.com (http://www.mylifebrand.com) This site allows users to belong to numerous sites and access all of their memberships under one domain. I personally think that this is the wave of the future. As long as there is money behind Plaxo and other social network sites they are going to stay around. They'll fulfill different niche functions. But then one website, MyLifeBrand will allow users to bring these different niches together as one.

There is something to say for information literacy.

Thank you for this interesting page of links. I've already taken a look at the one on the cost of virtual communities and found it quite useful, especially since I'm in the process of helping a college develop it's own virtual community.
