in Random 60: Cheap cookies on Colin Devroe
I try to stay away from cheap cookies because I know if there are a ton of cookies sitting around, it's easy to break and have "just one" because there are so many. It's like when you're baking cookies for an event and they come hot off out of the oven...and you have to have "just one".

Especially ginger snaps... they're addicting!

Colin Devroe A requirement of my dieting habits is that you get to have a small, delicious, not-so-good-for-you snack every now and then to keep myself sane. Cheap coooookiess!!!!

The F402 is my favorite bang-for-buck pen. I'm sure there are better pens for more money, but it's my favorite.

in Random 60: Reading. on Colin Devroe
I think reading longer pieces regardless of the medium, forces you to focus and think about that topic. I loved sitting down and reading Anathem for 30 minutes here and there because it made me think. I'd spend an hour "reading", but I'd have read for 30 minutes and then spent the next 30 minutes sketching ideas in my mind about what I had just read and the concepts introduced therein.

One thing I do have to say is that as people read less books and more websites, we need to point people toward quality consuming. Example: Even if it's a once in a while thing, a lively debate about the relevance of the modern aristocracy (celebrities, fat cat CEOs, etc.) for someone that normally reads all the gossip mags and their online equivalent.

There are quality conversations happening online relevant to people's interests, even for people who spend hours online reading about Paris Hilton's dog's new haircut.

Colin Devroe I don't know about you, but I have no idea about Paris Hilton's dog and I'm so happy about that. I've managed to nearly ignore celebrity gossip save what I hear in general conversation with people. I do not read any of that crap.

And, I agree with you, getting into debates forces people to thoroughly explore an idea from every angle. GREAT point.

Colin Devroe Lets be clear though Danny. Flickr is actually smaller than a lot of other photo sharing sites. They've grown a lot since Yahoo! Photos switched over to Flickr. But, other sites are out there that are much larger and make a lot more money. (24 dollar pro accounts doesn't make Flickr a ton of money)

It is really sad how so many people are clueless to the 'cooking' aspect of life these days.

Definitely going to be watching & subscribing. I love food shows like this.

Shark steak- as a final note - is one of my favorite dishes ever!

in Acquisition 2’s trial isn’t a very good trial on Colin Devroe
While I am all for people charging for their work, I think that in this case, unless it provides something ultra special or new, there shouldn't be a trial. It's a torrent client, and the free torrent clients absolutely rock. He's got to have something better than other clients or fill a unfilled want/need that is worth paying for.

Not to knock the app, and I agree with you - the 'trial' on the application is ridiculous. 1 hour with nagware?!

in “I ♥ NetNewsWire (on the iPhone)” - Justin Blanton on Colin Devroe
Unless there is auto-syncing, AND the App is faster than using a web-based safari client... there really is no point, right?

I use desktop based clients for one purpose: so i can still read the news when I have no access to the internet.

With an iPhone, I suppose if you didn't have 3G service for the majority of the area or time you use your phone, then a App would make sense, but otherwise...

in Should I block Google Images search? on Colin Devroe
I think it'd be cool if you were able to detect if the referral was from google images, and then if it was, throw up a javascript that covers the entire browser window and welcomes them to your website and links to the front page of your photo section.

That way people who are interested enough to click through actually look at your images, but people who are just trying to steal the image get lost and leave.

Coincidentally, these also show exactly how I love my hair cut, so I may be printing out a little mini booklet for barbers and hairstylists that don't understand much of the English that comes out of my mouth.

=) Very sweet shots ...the first one is pretty insane.

in Is “Remember me” still needed? on Colin Devroe
I think it's needed. Just as you said, it's not an issue if you're the only one who uses the computer, or if you never clear your cookies.

But multiple users (even if it's just a friend checking his email on your system) is a large enough group of people that it's worth having on.

I think there's some sort of privacy issue but i can't come up with anything at the moment.

Also, I often choose not to use the remember me because I use have a set of passwords for each site and typing the username and password each time helps me memorize them. If I've only logged in once to a site, I'm pretty much screwed if I have to login a month down the road. I can guess and go through them all, but it's frustrating to have to send password reminders all the time.

in Calacanis can’t keep up with Facebook on Scobleizer
While it's a nice idea, facebook has become the 'haven' for all those people who are trying to get rich quick. The 'marketplace' is filled with people hawking affiliate links and "win a free iphone" garbage. People who don't know me started to want to add me. I messaged a few and they seemed genuinely interested in sharing ideas and networking, but all was revealed, they just wanted to spam me. The signal to noise is terrible, even with real friends. A notice everytime a person adds an application, a picture, anything. I doubt I even have 50 people on facebook, but it's ridiculous how much unnecessary notifications. Yes, you can turn them off. Individually. But as more and more people write facebooks apps, it just creates more and more apps i have to turn notifications off of. Facebook used to be cool because it was clean, slick, and not filled with garbage. Not anymore.

in Unlock Your iPhone? — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
Bricked usually is termed as 'useless', only good for a paper weight or a doorstop, ie. as good as a brick.

Having a multi-touch screen ipod + wifi device with a near-decent browser that people are developing iphone specific apps on... = not exactly useless.

Second thought:

What about an app that makes a vCard for all your "social network" contacts and adds the appropriate information, combining where appropriate, and keeps a set of their most recent headshot picture of them?

Why stop with Facebook?

1. Why did they choose the market they did? While the ultra rich can afford anything, this seems like a classic 'sony' style marketing blunder.

If Apple indeed does announce a similar 'touch' product that costs less but is more accessible, programmable, and like-able, will this be the PS3 to the seemingly unstoppable Wii?

[I know it's alot of "if" style probability, but what the hay, it's late and i just kicked out a post about a BLT. If I can write about a delicious BLT with avocado at night, anything is possible =) ]
