Move Jericho to the struggling network. CBS does own the CW, right? Jericho would draw over 5 million making it the most watched show on the network. They could pair it with Reaper or Supernatural and create a strong sci-fi night to build around. Plus all those rabid Jericho fans would be happy.

Re: We Look Back At The Top TV Shows of 2002

Wow, has the sitcom fallen from grace. NBC Thursday's comedy block is better in quality today than it was when Friends anchored it, but look it the ratings difference. My theory is that sitcoms target today's non-TV watching youth. Everybody I know under 25 watches the office.(albeit illegally downloaded or on HULU) If sitcoms targeted a slightly older demo they would be wildly successful again. Samantha Who and Two and Half Men are the only network sitcoms whose star characters aren't in their 20's.

Re: Nielsen Ratings Fri, April 25: Moonlight Is Back and CBS Wins the Night

Moonlight is no "Angel"(in quality, but exactly the same in premise)Joss Whedon needs to return to television. It opens up a spot for office for NBC. And ABC will be able to use scrubs to launch a new sitcom.

The only reason it looks like NBC wants to keep 30 rock is so its around long enough to make it a good syndication sell. Its number are mediocre. Earl preformed better in the weaker time slot.

The office is a great deal for NBC. It looks relatively cheap to make, it pulls in great demo numbers, it gets great buzz, TBS already runs reruns and its only season 4. Narnia is a free way to fill 3 hours of programming.(Narnia is a Disney movie, so they wouldn't have to pay anyone to show it) It promotes their new Narnia movie, and it still drew 6+ million eyeballs and a 2.0 in the demo.
The other networks should follow ABC's lead and use Saturdays as movie sequel promotion nights, especially this time of year when movie sequels start to come out. An advertiser will pay more when they are one of 4 ads in a program and an advertiser will pay more when they know their audience is interested in their product.
Second, ads can be attached to clips. 15 seconds of ads for a 30 second clip is a good ratio, especially if the clip was produced as part of a larger program that is also getting ad revenue.
Third, Online video, assuming the rights can be worked out, can reach a global audience much easier. 300 million Americans versus over 6 billion earthlings. You do the math. The only thing content producers would have to take care of is translation; distribution is a non-issue.
Fourth. Old content will continue to produce revenue as long as its online, basically forever. A viewer can blow a day watching an entire season of Arrested Development, content that would just be collecting dust otherwise.

Online video does have a future, if the content producers are smart about it.

Re: Nielsen Ratings Sun May 4: ABC Wins As Housewives Crush Field

wow dateline doesn't even put up a fight against 60 minutes.

Fox's cartoons are popular online too. One of these days advertisers will look solely at who's watching commercials, than avg viewers totals. Networks need to start creating incentives to get folks to watch their shows live. American Idol has an advantage because it is live, and so do sports.

My idea for networks is live blogs with the cast immediately after the live viewing. Show with rabid fan bases would eat it up. I think moonlight, gossip girl, lost, office would all see their live ratings improve a little. It may not be a lot but this is how networks need to be thinking.
