in Is Google getting serious about mobile? on Mathew's comments
Exactly how do you think google maps for mobile, plus gmail app was produced (and don't forget Goog-411). Obviously those acquisitions had something to do with those (excluding Dodgeball). Also I think the android and reqwireless acquisitions was just part of completing their mobile department. I never understood why the blogosphere believes that every acquisition must lead to a direct product, sometimes it's just the absorption of technology, and human resources into current development.

in Analyzing Google Press Releases: More Revenues, Less Search on Marketing Pilgrim
Also, obviously there would be alot more revenue press releases because google is now a public company - so investor conferences, earning calls, etc would be in press releases, not blog posts. I just checked google's labels on its main blog and it shows that they labeled 95 posts search, and 98 labeled apps, nothing else comes close. I guess that seems to mean that google is emphasizing search and apps. I think the blog posts is a better measure of what's happening internally. Press releases are for showing off, and making official announcements.

in Analyzing Google Press Releases: More Revenues, Less Search on Marketing Pilgrim
"I have to admit that it does seem to indicate that Google is moving away from emphasizing search."
That's incorrect. It means that google has mentioned much more things that just search in their *press releases*. However, if you analyzed google's blog post you would see alot more search posts.

in 2007/04/05/google-mymaps/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Boy, all you guys miss one thing. Google was not going after this startup space or copying. They were simply adding their feature to their map service, a feature that has been in Google Earth for a while. For Google this was just adding an extra feature to their service, not entering a new space.

in Microsoft tells MVPs “we’re in it to win” — Really? on Scobleizer
When Google is serious about a product they don't stop until they get it right. Their search engine was noy good from day one. If google is serious about business solutions, watch out - they will persist until they get it right. The Google Reader Team was serious about it, and stuck to it till they got it right. But Google Reader was not a company wide priority, only to the reader team. If the company is serious about business solutions, watch the various get going. This is why google bought Youtube; they were serious about online video; their own wasn't having traction, so they bought.

in Microsoft tells MVPs “we’re in it to win” — Really? on Scobleizer
Ballmer says MS did two things well, and google only does one thing well. But this is wrong. Search - one, Adwords/Adsense - two. They may be somewhat related, but are separate. Ranking sites, and responding correctly to queries is one thing. Billing advertisers, and having a system for advertisers to create, and classify their ads is something different. Remember, wasn't MSN using another company for its ads until recently

in Google changes its monetization strategy toward a Microsoft one? on Scobleizer
Also, funny thing about Google Coop. At first there was not an advertising component. It was added because of the request of users, and to encourage more developers to participate since the revenue is shared. And more people have participated as a result.

in Google changes its monetization strategy toward a Microsoft one? on Scobleizer
I think you need more evidence to say that they changed strategy, since there are things they put their ads on and things they don't. For example, Google Docs and Spreadsheets has no ads, also picaso web albums, and Google Calendar has no ads if I remember correctly. Google Reader has no ads, and the share page has no ads.
Google has always placed there ads on some products and not on others. They still release products without no clear way of monetizing it. The fact the two products you are speaking of require ads really does not suggest a change, since there are other recently released products that does not require ads.

in The case for research on Scobleizer
Google has never stated that there 20% time is for research. If you had just checked out Google's blog, you would have found a blog by Google's Research Department/team or whatever at http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/
In fact one of their papers won a best paper award recently, see here: http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/2006/06/inte...
Why would you compare how many papers googlers have compared to MS. MS have been doing research way before Google became a company. Of course MS research department is way ahead Google's, because MS is an older, wealthier company. In time Google's research department will grow also.
