In-house graphic designer in corporate America and author of Creative Curio.

Thanks for your answers, Andi! I love reading about other people's perspectives on the industry. And I'd have to agree with your illustrator friends... graphic design is not illustration :P

Nice redesign of the blog, btw. How did I miss that? I saw the GD Links site, but not this one.

in Ads or No on Chris Brogan
1) Don't trick me with your ads (many AdSense users are guilty of this) and 2) don't make the ads trashy (again, AdSense).

If you are putting ads on your site that are relavent to the topic and you are sensitive to what you are backing (like you said, you must really believe in the value of the product/service) then go for it! You should get paid for all the content you produce here. Ads definitely don't cheapen the relationship if they are done right, and it sounds like you know what to do :)

in Programming for the Masses- Social Computing on Chris Brogan
Chris, you make what could be presented in a boring, matter-of-fact way so facinating and exciting! I like learning from people like you; you've really found your passion here. It will be interesting to see how things shape up in the next year in terms of social media.

I like what Dr Mani shared about the predictions: "the 'Web' seem an outdated idea, like 'multimedia.'" That really struck something with me, although it does make me slightly worried about the role of professional designers in the future :\

in Stillness and Listening on Chris Brogan
I like being helpful. For some reason, I never connected being still inside myself and reflecting as a necessary part of that process. You are so right, though! Conversation and getting to know new people is very exciting to me. Now I will have to think about taking a moment to be still first. That is a hard thing to do in such a fast-paced world! Thanks for the reminder, Chris.

in Slicing Time in a Face to Face Environment on Chris Brogan
Hi Chris! I'm new around here (found you from a link on Copyblogger about the 100 post topics you'd love to see others write about... interesting subjects, btw!). I added your feed to my reader because I'm intensely interested in social media and how it's shaping the internet and that seems to be right up your ally!

I was reading some of your most recent posts, this one and the previous one in particular. I read this first and then the other and I noticed how you used the asking personal questions advice you gave previously. While I was reading this post the first time, I was aware of how much I identified with you (even though I've never been in this situation) and wanted to help you. You have a very engaging writing style and it really drew me in (and again, the subject is very interesting to me).

I'm imagining if I were talking with you in a situation like this. I think I would understand if you were to say, "You know, I would love to keep chatting with you, but I'm short on time right now. Here's my card (with email, website, yadda) and be sure, please, to send me an email so we can talk more!" Maybe say something along the lines of "this way I can devote more time and attention to our conversation." Most people will get it, and those that don't, well, they were probably too self-centered to notice it wasn't about them anyway. Donna had some really great advice, too: make it about them. People love to be stars!

in How My Kindergartener Learned to Read Chapter Books on GoodWordEditing.com
Have you ever listened to books on tape? I'm currently going through Harper Audio's Chronicles of Narnia (funny you should mention Lucy and Aslan!). They're read by famous British actors (Patrick Stewart does The Last Battle!!!) and although I don't have kids yet, I can see my family putting on an audio book rather than watching TV. You can imagine the story in your head infinitely better than any screen could capture!

I remember my mom reading to me before bed when I was little and I would always draw pictures of what she read about. Got to exercise my mind and my creativity, too. It's no wonder I ended up a graphic designer :D
