I wrote a post on my movie blog last year that Hollywood was lacking imagination. Guest what? Nothing has change.

Direct to DVD or Blu-Ray, that I would not mind much. It's the lack of original movies I can see at the theater.

Of course, we are part of the problem when do see them. ;) I'm lucky in a sense because English movies are rare in Quebec City since last year.

Steve McGrath's last blog post..Does Sex Sell? But if a book is that good, I will see the movie :) "

Lord of the ring is a great example. Yes, it had sequels but they were worth it. The same goes with Narnia even if it's more for children than Lord.

Video games don't worked well. Someday, they may find a good formula. Btw, I never played Hitman but did like the movie(action) and I left my brain at the door ;)

Was it Micheal Bay that said the theater release was to sell the DVD? He should try a direct to DVD(unrated) to see how much money he would sell/rent. I would rent it but I won't pay $8-12 to see it at the theater.

Steve McGrath's last blog post..Does Sex Sell? They can still play a Blu-Ray movies with no problem and that's what most people do: only watch the movie. When was the last time you heard someone say: "Did you see to the live commentary, it was funny". Btw, that's already in profile 1.1. Only die hard fans watch them.

Anyway, I expected them to stay the same price. Are they keeping the price high so that people don't say: "I would had waited if I had known about profile 2.0". For now, the PS3 is still the best choice to get a future profile 2.0 player. And it can play games ;)

There is difference between downloading subquality HD movie versus a better quality Blu-Ray movie(higher bit rate). Sure, downloading is the future but very far down the road. It will only play catch up with the physical media.

You can read this:
Blu-Ray Won! I'm like Mike and I still like the show. One's person crap is another person's favorite show.

Now, I agree with you that many show are crap because they don't offer much like a drama/sci-fi. Think of all the reality shows available or game shows now available. I only watch 1 reality show because it last about 8-9 episodes. Deal or no deal, I can watch 5 minutes/month but for most of them, I don't watch them. I could do without Survivor.

For regular shows, I like NCIS but don't watch the 8 versions of CSI.

I also agree that many are canceled way too fast or put in the wrong time slot or night. Why can't they just use Saturday like they used to do? "The Commish" had 5 seasons(?) there. I would watch if new scripted show were there. For now, I don't watch nothing from the major networks because nothing for me to watch.

But bring back Journeyman! ;)

Steve McGrath's last blog post..John Chow/UberAffiliate April Fouls Warning

Re: Fox Renews “Prison Break” for Season 4

Jason:
"I just wish more people would watch the “good shows before they get canceled."
Yes to that!

Mike:
lol

One season may suck but could come back stronger the next season. For example, in Enterprise, the Xindi story arch was too long for most fans. The writers learned from that and decided to make shorter story arch in Season 4.The same thing with Veronica Mars. My point is that they adapted to fans. The last few Enterprise episodes were great(darker side angle).

I'm not ready to throw the towel yet. But in this case(Sci-Fi), I don't mind at all because the technology is now better than the cheesy special effects of the show. And with BG being a successful remake, V can also be good if they make it darker like BG.

I remember when Diana(alien scientist) would swallow a live rat. It's silent too. You will save $50. But you will need the remote($25 at Walmart for the true PS3 remote not the fake at $20) unless you don't mind using the controller.

A part from the game, it starting to be a good multimedia machine(DivX, Xvid, WMV, MP3...). Sony talk about a 10 year life cycle for it. Yes, a PS4-5 will exist by then. If it were free, I would not have an affiliate program, thus no money to give back ;) The funny thing is that it started with freeware/sharewares files(now 1975+). The blog category was added after. I am a blogger too and it was to help other bloggers starting out and wanting to make money at the same time.

I do need good bloggers that will do direct paid reviews like your "Bloggin-Ads Deluxe Package" or want to promote their blogs(advertisement only).I did paid reviews but taught that the rates were too high. Now, you can display your price per review. Other typical blogs don't do that!

My question is: Do you think your blog is worth $1/year(with coupon ;) )? Only you can answer.

You and others are more than welcome to visit and submit a blog :D

Re: Too cool for school

Binh dot Name: Thanks for the feedback. I will reply to each points.

1. I'm working on that based on the many feedback here. ;) But if you can claim your blog with Technorati, it's a lot easier to add your blog with 1 Cool File. Plus, you can make money too ;)

2.1 80% is from search engine, 15% from other sites and 5% direct. So, even if I would like more direct visitors(a bookmark), people will search first and find a file or a blog because of my higher PR6.They are more likely to find your site from my site if you have a lower PR than me. Granted that if they search for something specific, they will find your blog first. Your description of the blog will mostly be your "About page". They may search for : Vietnamese blog reviews

2.2 .The Blog Category is very new and if bloggers decide to go to my site directly more often, then traffic will come. Having the affiliate program will also help that. Plus, if you do direct paid review, you will keep the money for you and not give up the 10%, 35% or 50% markup. That will also bring another type of traffic(advertiser looking for reviewers). An advertiser may searched for a Gardening blogger to test new seeds.
And Binh, you are an analyst programmer and I will create a category for software reviewers later. You said it: I have more software than bloggers for now. That's another reasons why I need tech bloggers.

3.1 Yes, not everyone knows what a blog is but we now have 112.1 million blogs and 175,000 new blogs everyday. That's numbers from Technorati. So, it is a lot of readers of blogs. With the US election coming up, blogs will be even more present in 2008.

3.2. I won't risk loosing my PR6 for a $2.50/year link. I would had charge a lot more

3.3 If I take your 50 visitors but for the whole year for example. It's $0.05/visitor at $2.50/year. Use the coupon and it's $0.02/visitor.

3.4 I may have 1000s real blogs later in 150+ categories because I don't accept all blogs. "Dead blogs" will be deleted after 1 year or the blogger may decide to sell it in the "Blog For Sale" category while it has still some value.

Wow, that's a long reply :D

I have another limited offer where you will pay less but you must do some easy things. Get The Platinum Membership For $ 5 Instead Of $ 45
It's not related to the coupons here.

Re: Too cool for school

I relaunch the affiliate program based on the review.

So check it out.

Re: Too cool for school

Hi,
Just to give a quick update:
You now have an option to add your blog for free by doing a short review.
I did post about the modification in the last week and the new option.

Re: Adsense - For a Few Dollars More

Nothing is stopping people to build from that. You may reduce the news to 2-3 if you want. 5 is the default
- You have 7 articles included. Each time you refresh, you get another article or the same ;)
- Links on the sidebar only show the same 7 articles(random). You can set a article if you want for each or go random.
- Don't create a domain for each to save money. Use a subdomain or folder for each. The best performer can have a domain later on.
- It uses PHP
- The size is 21.2MB but 203MB on disk. The zip is 24.1MB + 3.82 MB(searchtool)
- I asked another private question to John but did not replied me yet.

Could it work with the minimum? The price per liter was $0.55 but today it's $1.30. :(

Steve McGrath's last blog post..It’s Nice Not To Be American

Re: Want To Be Cool? I wrote a free ebook and looking at my stats now(400+ downloads), people are even afraid of a little work. You can't have everything for free.

And if you want to make money online, you need to invest time and some money(to go faster).

Steve McGraths last blog post..FeedBurner Tip: Get Free Backlinks Using Your RSS Feed

Re: Shut Up and get to work

"but I have to go back to doing the work others did poorly"
lol

The work place has also changed in that time. Employees are mostly seen as numbers and not persons in most companies but not all. So, employees don't have the same strong relation as before to their company. One minute, they work and the other they are laid off for many reasons. If a person gets laid off often, it's normal that they tend to work for the paycheck only. Most younger employees want to balance work and play and not be working machine like their parents.

What I hear around me is that most companies are worst than before. They cut jobs and increase workload(often too much) for the remaining workers. After that, they wonder why employees feel like they do.

When I was young, they talked about the 4 days of work per week society and often said: "Go to college or university and you will get an high paying jobs when you get out." They were sold a dream and they believe it that they think they are entitled. I can't blame them for that. One of my nephew told me that a counselor told a student that he would make 40K/year when he would got out of school. The funny thing is that it was in my field and it would had made 30K/year if very lucky.

Me, I work more hours than before because I have my own business now. It's not the same when you work for yourself than for someone else. ;)

I try to understand both side of the issue. This time, I look at their side ;)

Steve McGraths last blog post..FeedBurner Tip: Get Free Backlinks Using Your RSS Feed

Re: Web 2.0 Traffic Strategies & Playing Follow the Leader

Here a real world example I see often in the Quebec City. Someone build a gas station at a corner and a few months later the corner has 2 more gas station. They each offer gas but tweak the formula a bit by offering different services like a car wash or specialty coffees.

P.S. For Paul McCartney fans, he is coming to Quebec City for a free concert on July 20th. It's part of the 400th year celebration of Quebec City. Expecting a 250 000 crowd not cows. ;) Celine Dion, also free, 100 000 crowd might be move at the same place to get more people.

Steve McGraths last blog post..Opinion: BANS vs phpBay(WP plugin) vs phpBay API vs Free Options

Re: The Evil Gas Empire that We MUST Stop!

I don't mind paying for a "demand versus offer" for the price of gas. That's the capitalist society we live in and must live with that. It's the "too much speculation" that is the bigger deal here every time something in the world happens. Any reason they have is used to rise the price.

Regulation or not some will find a way to make money. Recently, we had the first real case of fixing gas price at the pump in one small region of Quebec, Canada. Yes, those are rare but it took years to prove it even if it was done for a few months in 2005. An Ultramart(refiner) regional manager was also in that plot.Ultramart did agreed to pay 1-2 million fine.

Like I wrote in my post, lowering the price will only increase demand anyway. Like a CNN analyst said a few weeks ago, people have a short memory.

Steve McGraths last blog post..Is The Price Gas Too High?

Re: New JohnCow $200 for “CHRISTmas” Contest

I think I will buy more domains to increase my web empire, spend it on Blu-Ray movies or buy a webcam.
