in Breaking News: Roy Keane Quits Sunderland on EPL Talk
No surprise he's gone. Keane has a history of walking when he doesn't get his own way. I can't see him going back to management. He spent a fortune at Sunderland and then walked out rather than work to turn things around. What chairman would want to risk that happening again?

in Fox Soccer Channel Almost Beats ESPN2 In TV Ratings on EPL Talk
My take is that FSC opting for a Nielsen rating might not have been such a good move. While it may help in the short-term with ad revenue, in the long-term ESPN must be casting an envious eye at FSC's EPL viewership and will be looking to muscle in on the action.
With FSC, Setanta and potentially ESPN in a bidding war, someone is going to lose out big time.

in What English Football Team Does John McCain Support? on EPL Talk
Since McCain is from the school of "let's do the same thing over and over again and hope for a different result" - my guess would be Newcastle Utd.

in England vs Kazakhstan To Be Televised Live On Fox Soccer Channel on EPL Talk
Anyone with Dish Network notice the new channel that's popped into the old Gol TV channel 407?
It's labeled FSESP, which I assume stands for Fox Sports Espana. When I try to switch to it, I get a message saying it's blocked in my area.
The schedule looks very similar to FSC, with a few differences (no Sky Sports News for example).
Anyone know anything about it?

I thought it was amusing that they kept referring to England as "we" - on a US based network too! So much for impartiality.

in Joe Kinnear’s Newcastle United Press Conference: Audio on EPL Talk
Perhaps Kinnear is trying to instill an US vs. THEM mentality at the club in the hope that it will pull the team together and turn things around.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Should be fun to watch.

in Sheffield United Players Should Sue West Ham United on EPL Talk
What this says to me is that 10 Sheffield Utd players think that they aren't as good as one West Ham player. As a Hammer's fan I'd have to agree, but in all honesty, where will it end?
Tevez was cleared to play by the EPL after they heard the case and imposed the fine with 3 games left in the season. Sheffield still had their fate in their own hands and it's the fault of the Sheffield players that they didn't have the skill, determination and guts to save their own skins.
So what next, will the Sheffield fans sue for emotional stress? Will the pubs and shops around Bramall Lane sue for loss of income as well?
Kiss goodbye to the beautiful game if you let the lawyers decide the winners and losers.

Thanks for the acknowledgement. I never imagined I'd start an internet movement when I first posted that.
Shows what can be done if enough people speak out.

I used it the other night to listen to the West Ham/Watford game on BBC Radio London. Works great!

in Closer Look At Arsenal’s Youngsters That Thrashed Sheff Utd on EPL Talk
Sheffield Utd are demanding that the FA launch an investigation into the eligibility of teenagers playing in the Carling Cup. "This is a man's game", said a spokesman for sour grapes, sorry, Sheffield Utd.
They are demanding to not only be re-instated into the competition, but to be awarded the trophy outright.
Failing that, a few million quid will do....

in Tell Us What’s Missing In Your Soccer Experience on EPL Talk
I think we're pretty well served in the US, to be honest. If you subscribe to FSC and Setanta, you have access to 6 or 7 live EPL games a week, as well as live games from other competitions and countries. With ESPN showing the Euros and Champions League, Sky Sports news on FSC, Setanta Sports news and the internet, I certainly have enough available to keep me entertained and informed.
As Dave said in his post, what is missing is the build-up and informed post match discussion. You sometimes get it on Setanta, if they are showing one of their own broadcasts from the UK (rather than relaying a Sky Sports feed), but it doesn't happen often enough.
FSC's EPL presentation starts at the kick-off and ends with the final whistle. The Super Sunday + show doesn't cut it. They could do a much better job of wrapping the Saturday and Sunday EPL games around a pre- and post-match review show. Make it one long show that starts an hour or 30 mins before the first live game and ends an hour after the last live game. Give us half-time and full-time reports from the other games, team news, interviews with players and coaches, give us a taste of the atmosphere inside the ground as the stadium fills up and during half-time.
In short, I want to feel involved in what's happening. FSC's presentation makes me feel like I'm just observing.

Thanks for taking the time to post a response.
If at all possible, please send a message back to Sony corporate that mindless ads like this don't reflect well on your company.
Sony wouldn't air this ad, or one like it, in Europe or South America, so why is it OK in the USA? As a global supporter of soccer, your company shouldn't be dissing the sport in the US by pandering to other sports like American football.

in Do Soccer Celebrations Go Too Far For American TV Viewers? on EPL Talk
Did anyone else catch the Sony commercial during the Cowboys/Green Bay game last night?
A guy walks into an electronics store to buy an HD TV, when he is confronted by a panel of "experts", including Peyton Manning and curiously, someone dressed as a chicken. Manning goes on to explain that most football games are filmed using Sony HD cameras, so wouldn't it make sense to watch the game on a Sony HDTV?
The guy responds with something along the lines of "When you say football, do you mean soccer as well?". At which the panel of experts look at each other and burst out laughing.
Now I'm not exactly sure what message Sony was trying give, but it didn't make me feel like I wanted to buy anything Sony anytime soon..
