sure, just going to do that now (on the assumption that my Flickr account is set to the default.... ). Shame this is a bit hidden, isn't it!

in Thomas Hawk gets schooled at Photoshop on Scobleizer
being able to see what kind of camera took the shot isn't a new feature... it's been included in the 'additional information' for photos on Flickr for a while now (that's how I tell when my friends get new cameras!)

I haven't seen the Camera Finder section before tho'. It looks pretty commercial, for Flickr, but it is really intersting to see all the information aggregated together in the graphs and which cameras the community prefers :)

in are those cynical geeks really not so cynical after all? on riaz kanani
i agree - yay! the sponsors. How amazing to go to two days of such smartness for no admission fee!

I think this was a really great example for sponsors for how to be quietly noticed and greatly appreciated/embraced. I've been to lots of things where the sponsors get their moment in the sun and every one is thinking 'sponsors blah blah blah blah'.

Do something useful - that seems to be the moral to the story!

in Singapore Documentary: Should I Stay Or Should I Go? on theory.isthereason
i feasted in Singapore in transit on my move from Sydney to London, so can understand the appeal! ... have only been here, in London, for a couple of months and the novelties of the new are still pretty much keeping me entertained and distracted.

We're seeking new adventures, new places, new experiences... so being away is a necessary part of the equation. I think we might even move somewhere else before we start thinking about moving back home. (Don't tell my mum!)

I'm away for a few years yet I'd say... and not sure what would draw me back. I'm open to living anywhere at the moment... but it's friends and family - being close to them - that I suspect will ultimately draw us home.

i have two cameras now, Kevin :)
my old olympus point and shoot died, and I'd been lusting after a DSLR for a while now, so I've got two new Canons - and ixus and a DSLR. I haven't had much of a chance to play with them yet, but looking forward to it!

in I like Derek’s “user-generated content” on Mathew's comments
hey Matthew, good luck with that search for an alternate term! I'll be interested to see what you come up with.

speaking for myself, I don't use the term because I'm a fan. I and others I know have been trying to find a better way to describe the amazing insights and creativity that individual people are contributing in various media formats to online spaces.

As you can see from that last sentence we still haven't come up with anything particularly catchy yet.

as ugly as it is, UGC (eh, the acronym is even worse) has stuck. We *need* some kind of grouping term for this kind of content (see, I have no big issue with the word content... it doesn't smell of packing peanuts to me). It's going to take something pretty amazing and resonant to both business and the rest of us, to unstick it. and, I agree, 'authentic media' isn't quite right. (at the very least because my clients will resent the implication that the rest of their media is inauthentic!)

in How to “show no mercy” at Monopoly (the board game) on theory.isthereason
ah.. I have a big weekend of uno playing ahead of me actually (going camping) - I think I might introduce that rule. Sounds fun.

In Australia, localised rules for backyard cricket games are particularly interesting. It would be interesting to map where the different variations are most promient. I guess its the same with pool too.

interesting topic :)

in How to “show no mercy” at Monopoly (the board game) on theory.isthereason
yes, Monopoly is now banned from my parents house at Christmas time. It just gets too ugly.

I'm definitely a believer that strategy, in the end, wins out.

But then, that depends on whether you're playing the rules where if you land on free parking you pick up all the fines etc. that people have paid into the middle...

in GoogleBorg assimilates MeasureMap on Mathew's comments
yes! this is what I don't understand! is Measure Map being bought as Google Analytics for Dummies? (no offense to Measure Map or its fans) Surely it would be just as easy to cut down the functionality of Google Analytics and release Analytics Lite for Blogs? (but then, you wouldn't want to write out the enormous AdSense sales pitch that is GA's other role, would you...)

i didn't get an invite to demo Measure Map either, so don't really know what they're offering, besides a sexy and hopefully v. usable ajax interface, and tools that I already have with Analytics and WordPress.

in Why don’t you use a memetracker? on Scobleizer
well, i'm going to be one of the few to admit that up until a few days ago I had no idea what a memetracker was, and when I first heard of them, had the horrid suspicion that they were tracking the *other* things that people call memes (like that annoying 'four things' that everyone has done recently).

i've been giving memeorandum a few minutes of my day for the last few days and I'm more impressed than I thought I'd be. It would be good to see more diverse sources and more content, and a few hours spent on the interface design would be great... but I'll certainly be giving it a few more minutes of my day for a while yet I think.

in Found is the new Search on kthread
hey Kristen,

thanks for adding me as a contact on Ma.gnolia - I feel a lot less lonely there now!

Do you get the feeling that something that Ma.gnolia is missing is the conversation that goes on in, say, Flickr? I know there's a menu item called 'messages' but I haven't been able to figure out how to message anyone yet. And I think i would be great to be able to have a bit of a discussion around the relative merits of different links etc.

What do you think?
