Not that I'm cynical or anything; but the downtown businesses and condo dwellers have long complained about the Lincoln Park campers - perhaps this is part of Foster and West's plan to discourage the homeless from congregating in the downtown area? Maybe this initiative is intended to serve additional purposes? Closure of the main library may cause a few transients to move on if they found themselves deprived of hot and cold running water in which to maintain personal hygiene; private restroom stalls to do whatever it is one does in private (legal or otherwise); and a (reasonably) safe place to catch 40 winks out of the elements... at least in my conspiratorial mind...

Re: YUCKLAHOMA! Gotta respect the kid for that. Hopefully Long Beach leaders are paying attention to how out-of-staters perceive Long Beach’s waters.

A Los Angeles Times headline of “Another Long Beach sewage spill forces beach closures” (08/13/08) doesn’t do much to help perceptions either – and is quite unfair, as the sewage spill actually occurred in Watts; Long Beach was just the downstream recipient of the wayward turds.

I dunno, maybe this kind of negative publicity is just what Long Beach needs to spur its leaders to do something about the water quality out of embarrassment - but more likely they’ll be motivated by the potential loss of tourist dollars, as politicians seemed seldom shamed by anything.

Re: DISTRICT WEEKLY PUBLISHER HITS ROAD!

I knew Rotundo would run you out of town sooner or later...

Good luck Will!
