I'm currently experimenting with a free recommendation system powered by loomia.com for my collaborative music podcasting website. Was amazed at how easy it was to get going and import existing user data into the system.

Re: 2007/05/15/kyte-funded/

Would be nice if you could provide links to the websites you discuss, pretty annoying when the company name link just takes me to another mashable page.

Re: 2007/11/26/abc-news-facebook-epic-fail/

Just because mashable readers (tech nerds) aren't interested in it doesn't mean facebook users (average college students) won't be.

Re: 2007/12/21/bebo-open-platform-number-1-week-later/

Does anyone know when Bebo is going to be opening it up so we can begin porting our facebook apps over?

Re: 2008/01/24/facebook-application-reviews/

As an app developer I think the reviews feature is great. Previously, legitimate app reviews wouln't stay on the "reviews" wall for long because it would constantly be flooded with help questions. Active daily users isn't an effective way to judge an apps quality because the big guys can easily cross promote. Hopefully app ratings will begin affecting placement in the directory. You can see what the actual reviews component looks like on this app page: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id... (shameless self promotion)

The fans feature is nice because I can tell my users that if they want to receive feature updates and test beta features that they can become a fan, and I can send out mass messages to my apps fans. Much easier than setting up a group or facebook page to accomplish the same thing, which many apps were doing before.

Re: 2008/01/25/warner-music-sues-seeqpod/

I'm curious at why much larger services, such as Project Playlist, have managed to avoid lawsuit.

Re: 2008/02/27/indistr-nyop/

Seems cool. The point is that they are trying to market to some different demographics.

Re: Interview: Guy Kawasaki Launches Alltop with $10,000

Traffic to alltop.com seems to be decent:
http://siteanalytics.compete.com/alltop.com/?me...

Not sure if that means the sites actually appealing to a certain niche of web goers who aren't bothered to setup their own start page or rss feed reader, or if it's just due to the publicity that Guy is able to drum up.

Re: 2008/07/02/google-pagerank/

While a social media ranking based on user voting, attention, etc, could certainly play a part in search ranking in the future, I don't think it will "overtake" the tradition page ranking method.

People are much more inclined to share and vote on certain types of content over others. If I'm searching for information regarding a medical condition pagerank may give me better results than social ranking because this may not be something people care to share and vote on. Social ranking will certainly play an increasingly larger role, but you will need to acknowledge certain limits of social ranking.

Re: 2008/07/06/videosift-scrapeup/

While I'm not sure about ScrapeUp, Videosift is a great website.

Re: 2008/10/09/netvibes-facebook-2/

I love netvibes, but I predict that this will be a total flop. There are plenty of useful applications on facebook that get no traffic. Sure, a netvibes app will get some use from existing netvibes users and maybe even some of their friends will signup.. but I can't see it becoming viral to any degree.

Cheesy social network games spread because they are viral in nature and are simple, easy to understand tools for interacting with your friends. Netvibes has a great platform, but it's hard to see how they could fit all that into a simple package that facebook users would want to add to their profile and share with friends.

Re: 2008/11/16/10-hot-bookmarklets/

Also take a look at http://imgfave.com, an image bookmarking site that uses a bookmarklet.

Re: 2008/12/02/pownce-demise/

Pownce, the product, failed in that it didn't get traction and it no longer exists now.
