in Barack Obama: I Didn't Say What I Said on Shakesville
Look - and I say this as an out queer who considers himself a feminist - I think we can reasonably agree that barring rape, physical complications which seriously endanger the health of the mother and serious physical complications which make the birth itself unviable, that abortion is something we would ALL like to avoid.

I'm not interested in trying to control women or their bodies - but once an unintended pregnancy occurs and has advance to the point where the fetus, as delivered, is viable, then barring the exceptions noted above [all of which can be addressed well before the third trimester], abortions should be tightly regulated.

Please read my comments carefully: any fetus not addressed by the exceptions above, is unequivocably a viable life and to abort it is, as much as you may not like to say so, ending its life.

So, unless you are willing to take a life - and I am not, just as I unequivocally oppose the death penalty - you must accept responsibility for the death.

Yes - it's not a position that is easy to outline in ten words or less - but it IS consistent.

My .02 - YMM, of course, V

somegirls Nick, This has been addressed many times on the several threads about Obama's statement. Others have said it much more eloquently so I suggest you go read them especially the link to the article by BitchPhd. But I will try to be concise here:

What in the hell makes you think that your list of reasons why a late term abortion might be acceptable is any more or less reasonable than the woman seeking a late term abortion?

in Doctor Triumphant on newcritics
Absolutely the finest TV sf series since "Farscape" ended, and Tennant is the best Doctor - fans of the show should also check out "Torchwood" - the spin-off starring Captain Jack. There is also another spin-off coming next year featuring old favorite character Mary Jane [assistant to one of the past Doctors] in her grown up role as an investigator. Additionally. a second series of Torchwood is coming - which will apparently feature a return of Rose Tyler!!

The current series can be seen on BBC America as well as the Sci-Fi channel, and individual episodes are available on line at all the usual Bittorrent sites. I'm one of those who has been eagerly awaiting each new episode and getting it that way [BT]. Hopefully, we can get DVDs soon!

This show makes me feel like a 12-year old again, in all the best possible ways!

why the need to "slag by comparison" instead of just pointing out Harcourt's strength's? this is the thing we always blast lazy rock-crits for.

BTW - while I loved his first record, I thought the last one was not terribly interesting - hope this one is an improvement. And - also [by way of full disclosure & you forced the issue ;-)], I am a huge Rufus fan, moderate fan of Ben Folds [esp the BFF days] and dude - if you're going to slam either Elton John or Radiohead, you need to get out a bit more: My .02 Elton could have made a career from any of his first half dozen records alone, and "OK Computer" is well, let's just call it one of the finest rock albums ever made and leave it there.

I like Ed just fine, but he has yet to write anything as memorable as "Burn Down The Mission" or "Paranoid Android", to choose just two off the top of my head.

just sayin'
