Drivers incapacitated by injury generally aren't shifting the gear box and rocking the car trying to get free.

It was a dumb move to force that corner and a dumb move to try and box out a car at race pace while you're fresh from the pit.

At some point everyone needs to stop with the VER/HAM fanaticism and realize they can both make mistakes without being horrible evil malicious people. HAM thought he could pull it off at Silverstone and failed. VER tried at Monza and failed.

Meanwhile my boy Danny Ric got that P1!

Re: Driver charged with felony assault for threatening photographer with his vehicle

Incorrect. Assault is causing someone to fear being injured. Battery is the act of injury. Hence why you have "Assault and Battery" as a charge. He committed assault in the act of attempting to hit/intimidate the person holding the camera.

Re: The Real Problem With Naming Vulnerabilities

Absolutely

Re: The Real Problem With Naming Vulnerabilities

I agree with the premise but think it's more complex than that. If it were simply the argument you put forth I would love themed vulns since it becomes easy to get the patch approved. What irks me about them is now everyone is over-hyping every vuln so I can't even mitigate the risk anymore. Instead of patching on normal schedule for a moderate vuln I have to keep everyone up on overtime because it has a trendy website.

Re: How to Fall in Love With Anyone

You said moist.

I hate you now.

Re: Why You Should Start Backing Up to the Cloud

Amazon isn't even close in terms of cost or features. S3 versioning is good but not as simple to manage as the other cloud backup services. BackBlaze and CrashPlan are two I've personally used and it's insanely easy to maintain rolling backup sets over time for point in time restoration. You can achieve the same effect in S3 but requires 'fiddling.'

Both mentioned services also allow continous or periodic backups per configuration. Again, you'd probably need to write your own bash scripts using cron and s3_put (or similar) to get the same effect. Something IT types can handle but not the simplest approach.

Last, on cost, ignoring the bandwidth costs of transferring the data in (since it is free) the costs are significantly higher. CrashPlan and BackBlaze are in the sub $10/month range. If you only have 2 TB of backup then the storage costs alone are $60 / month for standard, $48 for reduced redundancy, and $20 for Glacier. Add in versioning and you can increase those costs per backup set at a linear rate.

If you ever need to RESTORE your data it will cost $180 in bandwidth for transferring 2TB out of S3 at current rates.

The cost alone was a major disqualifying factor for me. Add on the time spent configuring and it's just not viable except as a learning experience.

Re: Why You Should Start Backing Up to the Cloud

I'll second CrashPlan. I used BackBlaze originally but they didn't have a Linux client so I moved to CrashPlan. CrashPlan allows using other computers you own (or even a friend's computer) as a backup destination for free. You only pay for their unlimited cloud storage (completely optional but worth it.) You can also set a custom 448 bit key on the client side ensuring the Server side never has access to your data. I've been very pleased with the quality of service so far and would recommend it.

Re: Brooks Garrett

Glad it helped! This has been the law since forever. An officer may not stop and inspect a citizen when lacking probable cause. A person performing an activity (carrying a gun) that would otherwise be lawful is not probable cause (hence why an officer can't stop you while driving only to inspect your driver's license.)

Re: First day of new gun law leads to arrest

Equivocally, like all the support the left wing offered to an imperfect solution, amiright?

Re: First day of new gun law leads to arrest

Actually an officer *can* demand to see a permit if they have a reason to believe a crime is being or was committed. Example, you better believe the arrested party had to display his permit to the officers. Another thing that may astonish you, an officer may not stop you while driving simply to check if you have a driver's license; yet nobody ever gets angry about that little legal fact.

Re: Secure Physical Data Transfer

Why not NFC?

Re: Lamborghini salesman shatters 'Cannonball' speed record, in Benz

Who was driving? There were three people in the car. All the computer data in the world can't prove which person actually broke the law. Red light cameras get special code sections but nearly all other traffic offenses require an officer to observe the act. The guy in New York that did the speed run on YouTube only got arrested because he was the only driver so it was an easy case. This one? Not so much.

Re: BrooksGarrett

It's a solid premise and I think I'm totally onboard with the goal. Really?)

I didn't like the Samsung UX, so I swapped it out. That is something I could never do on iOS. Now I love my phone which is perfectly tailored to my habits and tastes. When I go to bed it automatically turns off sounds except for critical alerts from work or calls from close family. Before I wake up it already set the sounds for the day. My calendar is already launched when I wake up so I can see my first meeting.

My maps work as intended and find far more accurate results than on iOS. The turn by turn navigation is impeccable and even gives me a street view of my destination so I can recognize it.

The task management is gorgeous and simple. Gestures can get a little honk at times, especially swiping to kill a task.

In all, I don't think you can make the form argument at all. The iPhone is someone else's idea of brilliance and art. My Droid is an extension and expression of me. Th iPhone uses workflows and patterns defined by Apple. My Droid uses workflows and patterns defined by me. In summary, the Droid is a symbiotic partnership while the iOS device is a tool.

I will grant you that it takes more time and effort to achieve the results, but the result is well worth the effort.

Re: http://192.168.111.50/2011/10/a-short-post/

My Link

Re: http://192.168.111.50/2011/10/a-short-post/

test post

Re: http://192.168.111.50/2011/10/a-short-post/

Test post 2

Re: http://192.168.111.50/2011/10/a-short-post/

Test Post 1

Re: Parent to Child Propagation of False Meaning

My mission is to make enough money that my kids can choose any job which satisfies them without worrying about the salary. This is acceptable. Science can not reliably explain why the same treatment will not work on two similar people with similar conditions. Thus the person is using faith to fill in the gaps. I see no harm in that.

An extreme stance is "No medicine. God will handle it." One of the most oft quoted verses from scripture is "God helps those who help themselves." I could understand the argument, "No medicine. There is a .00928 % success rate and a 90% chance it will only decrease his life experience." That is a valid argument based on promoting the greater good of the child.

While I DO think the courts should uphold the parent's wishes (Damn the First Amendment!), I do think they should be ridiculed and ostracized throughout their lives for sacrificing their son in this manner.
