As they get older the PC along with Discord and Twitch/YouTube on a second monitor seems to be the normal We are in such a great spot right now with so many excellent gaming options. Excellent article, Geno!

Re: The Best Wi-Fi Router (for Most People)

You could say the same thing about every technology product on the market.

Re: My Top 5 Favorite Casual Games

I agree with you about the Witness and almost didn't include it on my list. It feels like a casual game, but it's not one you can finish in an hour or two like the others. I just enjoyed it so much I decided to include it. If I were to replace it with another casual game, that game would be Virginia. Have you played that one? It's also on steam.

Re: My Top 5 Favorite Casual Games

Good question. Small companies tend to have real humans who answer phones. At some point, they add an automated phone system. If the system helps route the call to the person who can help, I'm fine with it. But many use them to avoid having to speak to customers.

Re: Creating vs. Consuming

Thank you for the kind words, Ray.

Re: Every Atheist Needs: /r/exjw

As a former Mormon, I relate to a lot of what I read at r/exjw to what read at r/exmormon. I was Mormon for over 40 years because my parents raised me in that church. I feel it robbed me of time, money and critical thinking skills. I had my first beer and cup of coffee after age 45. I’m enjoying my freedom as someone who no longer believes in any gods.

Re:

When did weed become legal in Utah because Joe is smoking a load if he thinks he's the best shooter in the NBA.

Re: But it was my fault

Maybe it's due to the fact my cars are older and we live in the desert! My list of things I wish I knew continually changes the further I get from the LDS church.

One thing I tell people who are doubting and ask for my advice is that your mileage may vary. A lot. Things that worked well for me may backfire and vice versa. I made the mistake of telling a friend his marriage would absolutely survive his faith crisis, because mine did. He came clean and I watched his marriage crumble.

There are no guarantees how a loved one will react.

I've been out now for four years. I look back and recognize the mistakes I made, but it's all part of the process. There's no how-to book on how to leave the religion you've been taught your entire life. My parents and 4 siblings are still involved deeply with the church. I'm the the odd man out. But I'm fine with that today, and I've learned to forgive those early mistake I made.

Re: Former Missionary Training Center president admits to asking a young missionary to expose her breasts in the ’80s, BYU police say

So we are supposed to believe that God calls these men to serve in leadership positions, but doesn't possess the ability to know some will abuse the most vulnerable in our society? If there is a silver lining to come out of this sad situation, it hopefully will be more parents not allowing their children to be interviewed by men behind closed doors. LDS priesthood leaders are instructed to delve into the sexual behavior and history so are we really surprised when some of these men get turned on and take it further?

The best thing you can do right now is to get out of the LDS church. These men have zero authority over anyone. They don't determine your worthiness or your value. Stop investing time and money into the LDS church and let it rot from the inside until it dies.

Re: While My Kids Play Fortnite

Fortnite allows some cross play between PC and Xbox and PC and PlayStation. They can either ignore the issues and people will continue to leave in droves or they can tell the truth and people will leave in droves. The LDS church was built on a sandy foundation and the internet is the wave that's going to wash it away. Those members who learn to think critically will come across the truth and most of them will leave. Others will keep their heads in the sand and double-down on absurd apologetic claims that allow them to stay in the church to keep their social stature in tact.

The wonderful part of all of this is that there's an amazing life awaiting those who leave the church. I was a member for over 40 years, served a mission and married in the temple. I decided to search for the truth and allow it to take me wherever it might lead. The first year or so was painful, but the last few years have been fantastic. Letting go of magical thinking and accepting truth and people for who they are has brought more joy than anything else.

Re: Microsoft Office Holdout

You hit on a key there. I want to use the "best" app be it one I must install or through my browser. There are some apps I use occasionally, but for those I use as tools each day, like Office, I'm not willing to switch unless something better comes along. Free isn't not a big draw for me if it means I'm giving up my privacy or personal information to use an inferior product. Have you decided to stick with Office 2007 and not move to 365? Just curious.

Re: 20 Years Ago I Bought a Wallet

That's a big purchase you don't watch to botch. But I have mixed feelings using them because some of them are now adding sites to the whitelist in exchange for payment. For advanced users, I think they are fine, but they often break sites, especially ecomm sites. Advanced users will have no problem adding these sites to their exception list, but for many normal users they can be a pain.
